Expected Topic-Wise Weightage for CUET PG Chemistry Paper 2025

CUET PG Chemistry Question Paper Analysis (2024-2023)
The CUET PG 2023 Chemistry exam was based on numericals, formulas, and factual recall, requiring students to apply equations or memorize information. However, in 2024, the focus shifted to analysis and application-based questions, with students being asked to explain and understand the chemical characteristics of reactions rather than making accurate calculations.
The 2024 paper had more application-based questions from topics such as Spectroscopy, Coordination Chemistry, and Organic Synthesis in which students had to interpret data, compare methods, and evaluate trends, making the exam more conceptual and analytical.
CUET PG 2023 vs. CUET PG 2024 Chemistry Topics Comparison
The CUET PG 2024 Chemistry examination valued conceptual understanding over memorization. Instead of simply answering problems with basic calculations, students had to describe many patterns and evaluate chemical behavior, such as how bond arrangement affects stability and reactivity.
In most questions, students had to compare different reaction mechanisms, periodic trends, and energy changes that needed analysis over memorization. The exam was also oriented toward practical applications since it incorporated industrial processes, pharmaceutical chemistry, and environmental chemistry that made the subject more practical and applicable.
CUET PG Chemistry Topic-Wise Comparison
| Topic Category | CUET PG 2023 Topics | CUET PG 2024 Topics |
|---|---|---|
| Physical Chemistry | More numerical-heavy (thermodynamics, electrochemistry, kinetics) | Conceptual & numerical mix (molecular interactions, phase equilibria) |
| Inorganic Chemistry | Fact-based questions on periodic trends and coordination chemistry | More focus on reaction mechanisms, oxidation states, and metal-ligand interactions |
| Organic Chemistry | Direct questions on functional groups and name reactions | More reaction pathways, synthetic routes, and biochemical relevance |
| Spectroscopy & Analysis | Basic UV, IR, and NMR principles | More spectral data interpretation and structural elucidation |
| Applied Chemistry | Limited focus on industrial chemistry | More real-world applications in pharmaceuticals, polymers, and environmental chemistry |
In 2024, the Physical Chemistry section moved away from formula-based problems to more concept-based ones. Rather than simply solving equations for thermodynamics, students had to fully understand reaction feasibility and molecular interactions which needed a higher level of understanding of intermolecular forces and energy changes.
Similarly, the Inorganic Chemistry part became more analytical. Instead of memorizing periodic trends, students now had to study ligand field effects, coordination complex stability, oxidation states, and reaction processes, which made it tougher than 2023.
In Organic Chemistry, the focus shifted from basic functional group reactions to synthetic pathways and biochemical applications. Questions came on reaction sequences, retrosynthesis (breaking down a reaction step-by-step), and pharmaceutical relevance and made the section more complex and required logical thinking.
The Spectroscopy and Analytical Chemistry section also underwent changes. While in 2023, students largely answered direct questions regarding UV, IR, and NMR definitions, in 2024, they had to analyze spectra, determine molecular structures, and evaluate different spectroscopic techniques, all of which needed excellent data analysis skills rather than simply memorizing theory.
Finally, the Applied Chemistry section remained a small part of the exam but became more practical. It included real-world topics like industrial chemistry, polymers, and environmental impact to make the subject more useful in daily life.
