Ques. What is a good CAT score in India?
Ans. Getting a high percentile in CAT depends not only on your scores but also the scores of your competitors. Depending on how good the other test-takers have performed in the exam, your percentile varies. Based on the combined analysis of the high number of test takers this year (2.88 lakh) and the higher difficulty level compared to last 2 years, a good score in CAT 2023 is expected to be above 82 for a 99+ percentile. It is much lower than last year when about 90-92+ marks were required for the 99+ percentile.

CAT Result 2023: Important Points
Candidates must read the important instructions given by IIMs regarding CAT 2023 Result declaration and scorecard download:
- CAT 2023 scorecard is released online on the official website and not sent by post. However, an SMS is sent on the candidate’s registered mobile number to download CAT 2023 scorecard.
- CAT Result contains the overall and sectional scaled scores of the candidates. It must be noted that the overall scaled score is calculated on the overall raw scores of the candidates and is not the sum of the scaled scores of the VARC, DILR, and QA sections.
- CAT 2023 Scores will be valid till Dec 31, 2024, and candidates can seek admission in MBA colleges accepting CAT scores provided they meet the other minimum eligibility criteria.
- Issue of CAT Scorecard does not guarantee admission to the MBA institutes. IIMs and non-IIMs release their individual cut offs and follow their own selection procedure to grant admission to MBA/ PGDM courses.

How to Check CAT Result 2023?
To check CAT results online, applicants need to follow simple instructions, as mentioned below (when they are released):
- Step 1. Visit the official website of CAT at iimcat.ac.in
- Step 2. Click on “Registered Candidate Login”
- Step 3. Log in using your previously registered credentials, ie user ID and password.
- Step 4. You will now be redirected to the CAT scorecard.

CAT 2023 exam will be conducted in 3 slots and the level of difficulty will vary. How is CAT Percentile Calculated?
- IIM releases CAT Percentile and Score Calculation method to maintain transparency in the CAT result process.
- CAT raw scores are converted into scaled scores and then into CAT Percentile.
- As per CAT exam pattern, each question holds 3 marks. For each wrong answer, 1 mark is deducted. However, there is no negative marking for Non-MCQ questions.
Three important steps in calculating CAT percentile are:
- First of all, the section-wise scores are calculated, and after that CAT overall scores are calculated.
- In the second step, both section-wise and overall raw scores are normalized to calculate the scaled CAT scores.
- In the last step, these normalized scores are converted into CAT percentiles.
Calculation of CAT Score (Raw Scores)
- CAT Score = No. of Correct Answer * 3 - (No. of Incorrect Answers * 1)
Calculation of CAT Percentile
- Step 1: Take Total no. of candidates = N, who have appeared in both shifts
- Step 2: Assign rank = R, based on the scores obtained in a section. If two candidates have scored the same scores then the same ranks will be assigned.
- Step 3: Calculate the CAT Percentile P, for a candidate who has scores rank R using formula P= (N-r)/ N ) *100
- Step 4: Round off the CAT Percentile P, like 99.995 is rounded off to 100 but if the percentile is less than 99.995 it will be rounded off to 99.99

Ques. What is the expected CAT cutoff 2023?
Ans. IIMs have already released their qualifying cut off scores in the admission criteria. The qualifying cut off is lower than the actual call cut offs. If you are aiming for the top IIMs like IIM-A, IIM-B, IIM-C, IIM-K, IIM-L, IIM-I, then expect the final CAT cutoff to be no less than 98+ percentile. For the newly added IIM Mumbai, expect the PI shortlist cut off to be between 96-98 percentile.
Now, if we move on to the most sought after non-IIMs like FMS Delhi, JBIMS Mumbai, MDI Gurgaon, XIMB, and IMI Delhi, the expected CAT percentile is 98, 95, 94, 91, and 90 respectively.
Ques. What is 95 percentile in CAT?
Ans. 95 percentile in CAT means that you have secured more marks than 95% of the candidates who appeared for the test. This year’s CAT exam was more difficult than the last 2 years. So, the expected score range for getting a 95 percentile in CAT 2023 is lower at around 55-58 marks.
Ques. Can I get IIM with 85 percentile?
Ans. You can be eligible for applying at the IIMs with an 85 percentile as the qualifying cut off for most IIMs is in this range. For the 9 IIM CAP participating IIMs, the qualifying cut off for general category is 92 percentile making them out of your score range. However, OBC, EWS, SC, ST candidates are eligible for the IIM CAP as the cut off is between 40-74 percentile. Note that merely clearing the qualifying cut off is not enough for guaranteed admission. There are other factors taken into consideration and the final call cut offs are usually above 90 percentile for all IIMs for general category.
What is CAT Score Normalization?
CAT scores are normalized to ensure fairness in the assessment procedure. The Normalization process adjusts for location and scale differences of score distributions across different forms. After normalization across different forms, the scores will be further normalized across different sections.
Authorities have not revealed the procedure for normalization. However, the previous year official brochure reveals that the process is adjusted for location and then scales the differences of score distribution across different forms. After this process, the scores obtained are again scaled for different sections. The score thus obtained is then converted to percentiles.

CAT Result 2023 Validity
The validity of CAT 2023 Result will be one year only. Candidates qualifying CAT 2023 cut off will be able to use their scores for the current academic session.
- The validity of CAT 2023 Scorecard will expire on Dec 31, 2024.
- After the completion of 1 year, candidates will have to re-appear for CAT exam and clear the cut off again to secure admission to their preferred college.
- Candidates must note that there is no age limit to take CAT exam therefore candidates can appear every year.

CAT 2022 Results Statistics
In 2022, out of the 2.22 lakh candidates who took the exam, 35% were Females, 65% Males and 4 were transgenders.
- Only 11 candidates, all male, managed to secure a 100 percentile in CAT examination result 2022.
- Out of the 100 percentilers, 2 each were from Delhi, Telangana and Maharashtra and 1 each from Haryana, Kerala, UP, MP, Gujarat.
- The result was released after accepting 2 objections from DILR shift 2 (Question ID 48916815375) and shift 3 (Question ID 48916815380).
CAT 2021 Result Analysis
CAT 2021 Result was released for around 1.92 lakh candidates who appeared for the exam out of 2.30 lakhs registered eligible candidates.
- Out of the 1.92 lakh candidates who took the exam, 35% were Females, 65% Males and 2 candidates were transgenders
- The result was released after accepting 1 objection in CAT QA shift 3 paper out of the total 161 objections received.
- 9 candidates scored an overall 100 percentile in CAT 2021 examination and all were male candidates. Out of these, 7 were from engineering background and 2 from non-engineering.
- 19 candidates scored 99.99 percentile and all were males. Out of these 16 were from the engineering background.

CAT Result Analysis 2020
IIM CAT Result 2020 was declared on January 2, 2021. For CAT 2020 paper, there was a noticeable drop in the number of applicants and the actual test takers due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation.
- 2,27,835 candidates registered for the exam and only 1,90,143 appeared. Compared to 2019, there was a 10% drop in the number of test-takers.
- Out of the total qualified candidates, only 9 managed to score a 100 percentile. 7 out of these were from the engineering background
- 19 candidates (18 male & 1 female) scored an overall 99.99 percentile. Out of these, 16 were from the engineering background, 1 from management, and 2 from economics.

What after CAT Result 2023?
After the announcement of CAT Result 2023, IIMs like Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta will release their shortlisting CAT Cut off on their official website. Candidates will be required to apply for the admission process based on the qualifying CAT cutoff decided by the institute.
- Candidates who will meet the qualifying criteria will be informed via Email, SMS, etc or they can also check the IIMs shortlisting result by visiting the official websites of the respective IIMs.
- Now the shortlisted candidates will have to participate in the selection process for IIMs which generally consists of a Written Ability Test and a Gropu Discussion & Personal Interview.
- Some IIMs still have group discussions but most have replaced the GD round with a WAT.

Admission Process After Declaration of CAT Result 2023
After the declaration of CAT Result 2023, IIMs and other MBA colleges release their final call cut offs for inviting the candidates to participate in the WAT/ GD/ PI rounds.
- Every institute follows its own criteria and process to select the candidates for MBA admission. Some institutes conduct both GD and PI, while others conduct only PI rounds for final selection.
- For MBA 2023-25 admissions, IIM Ahmedabad will shortlist on the basis of AWT and PI, while IIM Calcutta will shortlist on the basis of PI only.

Ans. You will be evaluated based on your choices filled. The chances of getting a program other than choices filled by you are rare.
