Can We Use Calculator In CAT Exam?
You are not permitted to take calculators with you inside the CAT exam hall. Rajat Jain who secured 100 percentile in CAT 2015 says that students are provided with on-screen calculators for carrying out calculations in all sections of the Common Admissions Test. But don’t miss the catch, he added. The difficulty level of the questions has nothing to do with calculation. If you are well aware of the strategy required to solve the questions, you can very well solve them without the calculator.
You can do calculations better and faster than a calculator if you know to strategy to solve the question, quoted Rajat. This calls for a focus on mental maths and analyzing each problem through various perspectives. For instance, analyze Data Interpretation questions involving calculating the max and min ratio considering the max % age change from the graph kind of questions using quick tricks or rough approximate calculations.
Note: Try to use calculators only when it is actually required. Do not ever use a calculator while you are practicing or that can ruin your potential.
