What is NEET SS 2026?

NEET SS stands for National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test for Super Speciality. It is India’s single, national-level entrance test for admission to super-specialty medical courses — DM (Doctor of Medicine), MCh (Master of Chirurgiae), and DrNB (Doctor of National Board). NBEMS (National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences) conducts NEET SS every year, usually in December.

Before NEET SS, individual medical institutions held their own entrance tests for DM and MCh admissions. The National Medical Commission (NMC) mandated a single entrance test to bring uniformity and transparency to super-specialty admissions across the country. NEET SS has been the single gateway for super-specialty courses since 2021.

Eligibility Criteria for NEET SS 2026

NEET SS 2026 eligibility is different from NEET UG and NEET PG. Only doctors who have already completed a postgraduate medical degree can apply. You must carefully check the eligibility before filling the application form, because an ineligible candidate’s application will be rejected without refund.

Educational Qualification

You must hold a recognised postgraduate medical degree — MD (Doctor of Medicine), MS (Master of Surgery), or DNB (Diplomate of National Board) — in an eligible feeder specialty. The feeder specialty you hold determines which super-specialty paper group you can choose in the NEET SS exam. For example, a doctor with MD General Medicine can apply for groups covering Cardiology, Neurology, Nephrology, Gastroenterology, and other Medicine-based super-specialties.

• Your MD/MS/DNB degree must be from a recognised university or institution approved by the NMC.
• The final result of your PG degree must be declared on or before the eligibility cutoff date specified by NBEMS. For the 2026 cycle, the cutoff is expected to be January 31, 2027 (based on last year’s pattern).
• Candidates who have completed a 2-year broad-specialty Diploma in certain approved specialties may also be eligible for certain groups — check the information bulletin for exact feeder-specialty mapping.

Registration with Medical Council

• You must be registered with the National Medical Commission (NMC) or any recognised State Medical Council of India.
• NRIs and Foreign Nationals are eligible to apply for management quota and NRI seats. They must have a valid medical registration from the relevant authority of their country of residence, in addition to NMC recognition.

Age Limit

There is no upper age limit for NEET SS 2026. Any doctor who holds an eligible PG qualification and has a valid medical registration can apply, regardless of age.

Exclusion Criteria

• Candidates who are already enrolled in a DM, MCh, or DrNB super-specialty course admitted through NEET SS are not eligible to apply again for the duration of that course.
• Candidates who have already completed a DM, MCh, or DrNB from a recognised institution through NEET SS are not eligible to appear for NEET SS again in the same or equivalent specialty.
• You must not have forfeited or cancelled a previously allotted DM/MCh/DrNB seat in a manner that invokes a penalty bar, as specified in previous NBEMS information bulletins.

NEET SS 2026 application form will be available on the official NBEMS website — natboard.edu.in. The registration window is expected to open in November 2026, based on trends from previous years. The application fee is non-refundable, so make sure you check eligibility before paying.

How to Fill the NEET SS 2026 Application Form

• Step 1 — Registration: Go to natboard.edu.in and click on the NEET SS 2026 application link. Create a new account using your mobile number and email ID.
• Step 2 — Fill in Personal and Academic Details: Enter your name, date of birth, PG qualification details, feeder specialty, NMC/State Medical Council registration number, and contact details.
• Step 3 — Choose Paper Group: Select the super-specialty paper group corresponding to your feeder specialty. You can apply for only one paper group per application.
• Step 4 — Upload Documents: Upload scanned copies of your photo, signature, PG marksheet, internship certificate, NMC/State Council registration, and any other documents specified in the information bulletin.
• Step 5 — Pay Application Fee: Pay the non-refundable fee of Rs. 3,500 (expected, based on 2025 fee) through net banking, debit card, or credit card.

Application Form Correction

NBEMS usually opens a short correction window after the application deadline, typically for 2–4 days. You can edit basic details like photograph, signature, and some personal information. Paper group selection, however, cannot be changed after submission. Use this window if you notice an error in your uploaded documents.

NEET SS 2026 Syllabus and Paper Groups

The NEET SS 2026 syllabus covers topics from the PG (postgraduate) curriculum of your feeder specialty, along with the super-specialty subject you are applying for. There is no single uniform syllabus for all candidates — it varies depending on the paper group you choose.

How the Syllabus is Structured

Each NEET SS paper group has a 3-section paper. The three sections test the following knowledge areas:

• Section A (50 questions): Core topics of the feeder specialty. For the Medical group, this covers General Medicine, Paediatrics, and related clinical sciences.
• Section B (50 questions): Focused topics of the specific super-specialty. For Cardiology, this covers cardiac physiology, ECG interpretation, echocardiography, interventional cardiology, heart failure, arrhythmias, and more.

NEET SS 2026 Admit Card

NEET SS 2026 admit card will be released on natboard.edu.in a few days before the exam. The admit card for NEET SS 2025 was released on December 22, 2025, just four days before the December 26 exam. For NEET SS 2026 (exam date tentatively December 11–12), the admit card is expected in the first or second week of December 2026.

You cannot enter the exam hall without a valid admit card. No admit card will be sent by post. You must download and print it from natboard.edu.in.

• Log in using your user ID (application number) and password.
• Your admit card will open on the screen. Check all details carefully.

NEET SS is highly competitive because the pool of qualified candidates is much larger than the number of available super-specialty seats. Many applicants are experienced practicing doctors who have been preparing for more than a year. A focused, disciplined strategy is essential to scoring well.

Start with the Official Syllabus and Previous Year Papers

• Download the official NEET SS 2026 syllabus for your specific paper group from natboard.edu.in as soon as the information bulletin is released.
• Solve at least 5 years of NEET SS previous year question papers for your group. This tells you what topics are tested most often and what the difficulty level looks like.
• Analyse every wrong answer — understand the concept behind the correct option before moving on.

• NBEMS releases a demo test on natboard.edu.in before the exam. Attempt it to get familiar with the interface.
• Aim to attempt all 50 questions in each section. If you are unsure between two options, it is usually worth attempting. If you have no idea at all, it is safer to skip and avoid the -1 penalty.

Revision Strategy for the Last 30 Days

• Increase mock test frequency to one full test every two days in the last month.
• Focus only on revision in the last 30 days — do not start new topics.
• Make short one-page summaries of high-yield topics for the last week of revision.
• Sort out your exam city, travel, and accommodation as soon as the admit card is released — city allotment can sometimes be far from your home city.
