There are 10 teachers including the head of the department. There are around 120 students including ug and pg level. They are friendly to students. They pay close attention to students during final year. And i like our tutor Dr. Jayalekshmi ma'am. There are six semesters. And so far the fifth semester is the toughest one. And there aren't much students who fail in exams. We study different branches of geography in these six semesters which includes Oceanography climatology human geography and so on.

The faculties here are highly qualified and classes are effective. But the infrastructure is too bad. Student's basic amenities are not at all fully covered. The college is in a vast area and departments are scattered all over the area.Only one amenity centre is available for girl students. And it is difficult to reach the amenity centre as it is in a corner of the college.Water scarcity is also an issue. As a student i think each department should have its own toilets. Students are suffering from diseases due to mosquitoes as the surroundings are not clean. Only annual cleaning is there.I think each month college surroundings should be swept out.

Faculty

Faculties are too good here except some of them. Each class have 2 tutors. The course is 3 year course and the marks are in cgpa system. It is difficult to gain marks even if we study well.As a student of bsc geography i like Jayalakshmi Ma'am of geography department. She is very responsible and take classes seriously and always friendly to students.

Fees and Financial Aid

For three years we have to pay around 6000 rupees which include course fee only. At the time of admission i paid around 4000 for registration and PT association and others. The students of sc st minorities must not pay this much. Other courses also have around 5k to 6k. There is university merit scholarship, higher education scholarship etc for students who are eligible. Most of the scholarship provide 5k to 12k per year.

Our college is taking the Chanda for saraswati pujo from the students which organised in every year . Our college is a government college so that's why there are not many extra charges. The University of Calcutta has maximum number of affiliated colleges in the city Kolkata with its large number of faculty members . Most colleges have avarage teacher student ratio. Mainly the colleges outskirts of the city had very low teacher student ratio. The quality of teaching is not same as before although most of the teachers are really good at teaching their subjects. Provided notes are also good enough.

Course Curriculum Overview

The course I have chosen is mainly for academic pursuits . The syllabus of geography includes many government exam topics. The BSc course is under CBCS curriculum which introduces new methods of teaching and new approaches to the course. There are six semester in 3 years course with each semester having 6 months . The exam questions are not tough .

I can assure it that from the first day onwards the science faculty of the college provides a top notch quality education to the students. As the class strength and the faculty is in perfect rolling equilibrium the quality of the guidance can never be doubted. Apart from the proportion of teachers , they are well trained and thoroughly educated with both practical and theoretical expertise in the respective fields. The open minded teachers are really a cherry on top as you can freely ask and clear away as many as doubts possible, all without any hesitation.

Campus Life

There is a very good canteen in the college alongside a small yard for playing various indoor games like carrom and chess. There are the freshers which takes place department wise and also as a whole in various places. Gym facilities are also available. The library is well stocked with books dating very old to new published ones too. Labs are separated for every department with practical curriculum.

Faculty members are very wise, they are very helpful. Even they are always available whenever we face problems in our studies. But I think the number of the permanent faculties should be improved. Otherwise they are all good.

The course is too much affordable. We only have to pay 75 rupees for per semester. Rather than this we just have to pay around 1500 rupees per annum. So I think in comparison to other courses it's supper affordable.

Course Curriculum Overview

The department of geography and faculty of Jadavpur University is very popular through India and there are many scope for future in this subject. So I choose this stream. There are several field surveys which can help us to experience the real or nature study . This is very important for every student to attend the field survey. The faculty is so few in our department. We need more faculty members to improve our learning The exams are taken after 4 months of previous exam and the difficulty level is increased in every semester

did you know that there are experienced teachers who teach the student very happily and easily, teachers should teach in a way that is easy for students to understand, teachers have to teach students more subjects very fast apart from the subjects in it.

As mentioned MCC is full of life and events, a single day doesn't go were no event is happening in some or the other departments. DeepWoods is teh college fest which one craves for, other than hall events are there. There are NCC, NSS and other clubs too. The library is one the most vast and enormous libraries you can find.

Course Curriculum Overview

Geography has always been something that has fascinated me as a person. And MCC offering a science degree for the subject was quite a surprise. Many of the colleges offer it as an arts degree. Just that the practical aspect of Geography comes into life and being a science degree it becomes easier for pursuing masters.

The campus life at this college is dynamic and enriching, with various communities like NCC and NSS and Scrub society and Innovation club, student engagement with credit point as incentives. There is well stocked libraries which provides a tranquil space for study.overall the college offers a plethora activities and amenities, ensuring a pleasant campus experience.

Course Curriculum Overview

The course curriculum is highly relevant by covering key aspects of sustainable tourism. This influenced my decision to choose this course.the curriculum adequately prepares students for real world applications by incorporating hands on projects. The area for improvement in the curriculum could include more emphasis on geographic information system to better equip students for emerging trends in the field. The frequency and timing of exams are reasonable although adjusting difficulty levels to better reflect real world scenarios could enhance the assessment process

Sports enthusiasts will appreciate the multiple grounds and courts available, including football, basketball (both indoor and outdoor), cricket, badminton, tennis, and kabaddi. The college is renowned for its festivals, which are celebrated throughout the year, providing ample opportunities for students to participate in various events. The library is well-stocked, providing a conducive environment for studying. The infrastructure of the college is aesthetically pleasing, with a serene environment enhanced by lush greenery. Overall, the college offers a diverse range of activities and amenities, contributing to a fulfilling campus experience.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee structure is reasonable, starting at approximately 70000 in the first year, decreasing to 40000 in the second year, and rising to around 60000 in the third year. Additional expenses apply for hostel accommodation, although it's considered better than other private colleges, providing a rewarding experience termed as "halls" at this college. Scholarships are available for high-achieving students, Christians, and those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. While the college offers moderate employment opportunities, most students opt for higher education. Nevertheless, a few third-year students have secured placements in companies, and notable achievements include a senior NCC cadet securing a position in the BSF.

Campus Life

MCC was know for it's culturals more than academics but it's kinda dying or it's probably already dead. If you're a part of the halls/ hostels and if you're not an introvert then you'd always have something happening every month. Apart from that every department has something or the other function. We have 3 clubs and even if they aren't that famous they manage to do stuff from time to time. The library is nice. Not like NICE NICE but meh. Works ( has alot of old books maybe from charity) has a wide range of department related books I guess. My department has a mini library for our subject related books so I didn't need to go to the library. The facilities on campus are fine, they're good, the college wants to retain it's heritage and preserve it the way it was 100+ years ago so don't mind the occasional broken windows and desks. Not much of a sports person so I wouldn't know much about it but we have more than 3 playgrounds and they are BIG. they also take it very seriously.

Fees and Financial Aid

My total Tution fees for my 1st year was 66000 and in my 2nd year it was 10k lesser (coz I am of the evening batch (self financed stream) and we gotta pay twice a year 20-30+ k per semester:')). It's higher in the 1st and 3rd year and a tiny bit lesser in the 2nd year. The on campus accommodations (halls/hostels) they are pricey (45k excluding per month mess fees) and you pay both financially and mentally for it. The college does provide on campus employment (part time jobs) called study while you work (something like that) it's pretty good. The work can range from working in the library or record Ms office to volunteering for being scribes:). It's fun. The pay isn't alot 3k Max for 3 months (depends on the job). For the scribe thingy it's 200 for 2 exams. So yea. If you need to make some cash go for it. Not alot of slots but when you get the chance go for it :).

Course Curriculum Overview

I didn't really choose this course for the curriculum, because as I mentioned, I joined here as the CUET results were too late. The professors let us ask them to teach certain parts practically like teaching us to use GIS softwares, which aren't in the curriculum as not everyone is interested in learning them & since the course is allied with Tourism. A couple of professors can update their way of teaching as they just send the notes right before the day of exam. The difficulty level of exam papers is fairly good, with exams held every other month apart from the semester exams, with timings varying between 2PM & 4:15PM (Self Financed Stream).

Campus Life

The annual event conducted is called Deepwoods, which is usually held in the 1st quarter. Our department has its own library which has all the books relevant to the course, & there's a library of the college called the Miller Library. We have a computer lab for our department with smart board & projectors as well. We have inter department sports competitions each year. There's the student run "College Union Society".

Ques. Which of these is better in IIT Kanpur: BSC in Chemistry/Physics, Earth Science, Biological Science or Engineering?

● Top Answer By Vidhita Kapoor on 24 Apr 23

Ans. It depends on what you are interested in and what career you want to pursue. My personal suggestion would be to make IIT Delhi your first preference. First, if you are a civil services aspirant, get admission into IIT Delhi in any branch and prepare for UPSC through the various coaching institutes available. If you are somehow not able to make it into IIT Delhi, then invest another year preparing for JEE and aim for a higher rank. Once you are able to make it into IIT Kanpur, again you need to work hard for one year to get a branch change into Civil. You will be competing with geniuses from CS and ME but keep yourself motivated. A CPI of 7+ will make it possible to get a branch change. Attend your classes regularly, complete your assignments on time and you are good to go. Lastly, if you are unable to change your branch, go for pure sciences like Physics, Chemistry, BSBE, or Earth Science. Out of these Physics and chemistry have a heavy workload and it will be tough to cope with your batchmates. BSBE has pathetic placements. Another option is Earth Sciences which in my opinion is the best considering the light workload and job opportunities. The average CPI is lesser than other branches and most of its courses overlap with Civil Engineering. Basically, Earth Sciences is equivalent to Civil Engineering just without the Engineering element.Read more

Ques. How good is the Geology department at Hansraj College for UG?

● Top Answer By Ria Vij, on 30 Oct 21

Ans. One of my friends studied at Hansraj College. According to him, the Geology department is not up to the mark. Here’s mentioning some things that proved to be a disappointment for the students. The placements are underwhelming. No reputed organization ever recruits students from this department. The classes are irregular and no discipline or decorum is maintained. Since it has the curriculum standards of DU, students are put under a lot of pressure to mug up elaborate theories. The practical classes are uninteresting, basically because it is not much focussed on. Classes of B.Sc. Geology is held outside the main campus where students tend to feel alienated from others. They have very little exposure hence less placements. Lastly, there is no geology society, where you can learn specific things about the course, get in-hand training, etc.  Therefore, if you want to do B.Sc. then opt for some other subject or you can do a BA or B.Com. from DU as they will provide better scope than Geology.Read more
