Fees and Financial Aid

The yearly fee when i took admission was ?17,100 Tuition fee 216 Admission 20 College exam 1000 Library 1500 Hons.fee 500 Games 150 Stu.aid fund 100 Stu.acti.fund 200 Dev.fund 3000 Staff fund 2500 College fund 2000 Maintenance 3000 Gratuity 1000 Id card 64 Caution money 1000 Registration 250 Migration 100 Practical lab.500 Above mentioned are all the details as to how i paid ?17,100 for B.A english hons. Fees of Commerce and science students were a little extra then the arts one. Since i belong to ST category i use to fill e-kalyan scholarship from the government of jharkhand every year untill my graduation was finished. The amount of the scholarship was based on the fee structure of each stream accordingly.

Faculty

The faculty-to-student ratio is quite good. I was in the English Department, and my experience with all the teachers and professors was excellent. All the professors were highly educated; they were all doctors (PhDs) in their respective fields and were true experts in their subjects. I liked all my teachers, and I am not being biased toward anyone." Each year consisted of two semesters, and typically, one semester lasted for six months, with exams held at the end of that period. However, classes didn't always run for the full six months. Sometimes, to maintain the academic session, exams were conducted within just four months, which was completely fine."

Campus Life

Campus life was good, during school days i was a little scared and unsure how its gonna be because as we all see in movies and web series i wanted it a little bit like that. wanted to have a group and friends to hang out with. And it all went like that there were fresher parties every year and annual functions and similar acticities like drama clubs used to perform acts in auditorioum so we all used to go there. sports etc were little bit neglected i think, merely we saw any such activities regarding sports. there were diff clubs like drama clubs, dance society and environment runs.

Course Curriculum Overview

It DU, so i think for many students it comes down to if you are able to make it to cutt off list. So my decision was based on it. I cleared the cutt off list for english hons so i took it. I wanted to make my way for govt job, so it was all about getting a degree regardless of what subject i was getting. I think curriculum just make you educated enough to get to know but its the college life that make you come face to face with the real world. exams every 6 months i.e every semester i think its good.

Campus Life

The fests are pretty average of my college, a recent event was for the freshers, called the odyssey'25, organised by the college. The college library is very big, and provides books of various fields and exams. The classrooms are facilitated with air conditioners, proper working fans and projectors, overall technologically great. The sports facilities are also great, with sports being exercised as cricket, badminton, table tennis, swimming and many more.

Fees and Financial Aid

The yearly fees which I paid was 29,735 as a general category student. The breakdown is mentioned on the website as admission fees - 5, tuition fees - 180, university development fees - 1500, college sports fees - 750, university student welfare fund - 250 and so on. Most of my batchmates have paid the same amount. Financial aids are provided like merit cum need based scholarships for students of economically weaker sections but strong academic records

The annual function name is "Confluence". It is most awaited fest for all HRCians and other DU students. It invites big personalities and offer a super experience. There are many sports available in this college such as basketball, cricket, badminton, carrom, football etc. There are many societies, ngos run by students and convenors . Many seminars ,talks are organized for the betterment of students. All classrooms have proper Air conditioners.

Faculty

If the students in a class are exceeding 100 then the group division occurs, means two teachers for 50-60 students. The open mindedness and Progressive mindset of professors is really appreciable.Faculty of english is amazing and most influential enough. Exams schedule is good and the exams are easy to moderate level if we study in a proper way.

Placement Experience

I don't have enough information regarding the placement but all I know is that there is a campus placement offers and it is managed by placement cell of Hansraj College. College gives enough theory knowledge but fir the soft skills we need to take extra care of that after college.

Faculty

The faculty for my course that is English hons is very good, highly educated and professional as well but still there are things that lacks in this system which are necessary for student's overall development like more interaction between professors and students. Exams pattern are very good and held in proper way like there's no way of any discrepancies or mis management and marking scheme is also good.

Campus Life

The infrastructure of Hansraj is very well maintained like the campus area is small but properly maintained and I like it very much. My college years were not that much social and that was the major problem I faced here but in second year I joined WDC that is the women's development cell of Hansraj College and make some good frnds there it was the turning point of my college life

Faculty

It is so-so. Sometimes theyre very helpful, sometimes they make students wait for a longtime, making them go to and fro from teacher to teacher. There is no best or worst faculty yet, i think all are on the same level. There are two endsems in a year one that occurs after 1st sem and the other after the 2nd sem. The exams are easy and the course curriculum is very relevant

Fees and Financial Aid

I cannot recall the exact fee structure but in 2024,we paid 28,000 and then last year we paid 31,200 so i think it grows by a hundred every year . I have yet to ask my batchmates about their fees. I think the amount of fees depends on the accomodity of the college

Miranda house is actually a really good college in academics, infrastructure and availing other facilities, it provides a safe environment as well. The course i am doing - English Honours, is in fact one of the most renowned courses of the college and the faculty is really understanding and well experienced, they help you not only with academics but with personal life issues and mental health issues as well. We are total of 100-105 students divided in 2 sections, and both section are divided in half and are provided with mentors, who are always ready to help us. The fees we paid for the first year was 15,500 which included admission fees as well, but in the second year it reduced upto 13,600 which is really fair compared to the facilities and quality of education and the standard of degree - ba hons in english. Students here are also very helpful and compatible, good facilities for specially abled children and easily accessible admin. Overall, very open and inclusive environment, green environment and affordable with good facilities.

Campus Life

The campus life is really lively, active and creative. Some or the other events are always happening here, the societies are also diverse and provides opportunities for all kinds of talents - music, dance, sports, corporate related skills, social service, etc. we also have one of the most huge libraries of the whole DU, the online portal for mh and the app - acadme makes it really eash for students to interact, engage and maintain the transparency.

All classrooms now have smart boards so thats great. For sports we have Football, basketball, NCC for boys and girls both. Multiple Societies like Debate, dance, economics, literature etc are there. A free mental health clinic named Ehsaas is also available

Faculty

Faculty to students ratio is around 1:30. Most of them are very approachable. Kopal Mam, Bhoomika Mam and Vikram sir are really nice in the English department. Usha Mam is a bit too strict sometimes but shes good in teaching mostly. There are mid sem and end sem exams. Difficulty of exam depends on the professor really. Most students pass still. Course curriculum is super relevant to competitive exams too.

Faculty

The English department is good, the faculty is amiable and approachable. I believe our faculty is honestly very chill and many departments envy us for that :) Political science and Econ dept is a little uptight from what I've heard, but it's honestly a very subjective thing. Some people like strict teachers, who stuck to their job , meanwhile, some don't.

Fees and Financial Aid

I paid around 16 thousand for the whole year, which in my opinion is very cheap for students coming from middle class background. DU provides good education at low cost, which is one of the main reasons for its popularity.

Course Curriculum Overview

I would read the course curriculum as quite relevant and fairly comprehensive. The curriculum covers course subject in a structured manner which influence my decision to choose their course. It provides a strong theoretical foundation along with basic practical exposure. Helping students understand real-world applications and prepare for higher studies or entry level jobs. The syllabus is mostly updated through adding more industry oriented topics. Case studies and hands on project would further improve learning outcomes. Exams are conducted regularly through inter internal assessment and semester and exams. The difficulty level is moderate and students who prepare consistently can perform well. Overall the curriculum is effective but has score for improvement and practical and skill based learning.

Campus Life

My overall experience with campus life has been positive and engaging the college organise, annual, cultural and technical events that usually take place during academic year, providing students weight opportunities to showcase their talent and interact socially. The library is well occupied with a good collection of textbook, reference book and journals, both physical and digital making it accessible for academic needs. Classrooms are adequately maintained with basic technological facilities such as projectors and Smart boards. The campus also encourages sports and extra curricular activities offering facilities for indoor and outdoor games. Various student run, clubs and societies actively function on campus. Helping students, develop leadership, skills, teamwork, and sense of community.

Campus Life

The campus life is absolutely awesome. Its the best decision of my life to be a student of drc. The campus is full of students here and there. Also the best part of our college is is library it has over 25000 books that too include everything that we need from course books to research papers. I sit there for hours and hours without realising the time. It feels so good. Our classes are fully air conditioned with smart boards in each class. The sports ground is so big that you can run all over. In winters the warm sunlight strikes the front lawn which makes it feel ethereal to sit there. Our College has a numerous number of societies. Even i myself am a part of the indian music society. We participate in diffrent competitions and our principle is so supportive that she provides us all the needies without even asking.

Internships Opportunities

Our college offers internship in most of the top rated companies like Hdfc, Delloite and what not. They have also run alot of projects that got successful. Some of my seniors also got permanent placements in these companies just after their internships. Our placement cell works really hard and the stipend is also about 5000-10000 varying the internship availed. One of my friends also availed internship in delloite that too at a stipend of 10000.

Faculty

JMC has a strong academic enviornment. Most of the faculties are very experienced, especially in honours courses. The English faculty is very chill and professional at the same time. They are open to doubts, approachable and encouraging. One of the best part is that we get special tutorial sessions to clear our doubts and interact personally with the professors. Some provide us with PYQs as well when asked. I think Political Science department could improve a bit since I had my general elective classes for 2 semesters with 2 Political Science professors and both the times they seemed a bit distant. The exams are mediocre level most of the times, some papers that include complex matters can be a bit difficult.

Campus Life

EVERY DAY in JMC is fun, especially during the second half of the year! We get Navaratri celebrations, Diwali fest called "SPARSH", Winter Chimes and other departmental fests! The societies are very active here. The annual fest "MONTAGE" is not as good as the north campus fests but when with right people it gets super fun! JMC focuses a lot on extra-curricular activities including dance, sports and singing. We are currently also raising a petition for a fashion society and hopefully by next year we will have one!

Course Curriculum Overview

There are several prospects, especially peer-to-peer counseling, where you get a mentor. We call it mentor mentee program. So, there will be groups of students, and each group will have a mentor who helps you whenever you face any issues whether in real life or in your academic journey. They’re always there for you. There are also remedial classes, and extracurricular activities are included in the curriculum. You even get the freedom to choose what you want to pursue creatively, like joining poetry clubs and similar groups. Right now, I’m at Banaras University, and the curriculum here is really good. We have sessions on public speaking, how to conduct interviews, and many other practical skills. These are highly commendable because they help you in professional situations like the one I’m in now. However, I would say that teachers could be a bit more active with electronic tools like using PPT presentations or audio-visual methods instead long lecture sessions. As for exams, I wouldn’t say they’re too difficult because there are many weekly assessments and sessionals, which actually help you evaluate yourself better.

Campus Life

There are many festivals. You get freshers, you get Saraswati Puja, you get the celebration of Holi. And you also get, umm, the Bengali regional festivals. There are many events the college authorities organise, and all the students engage in them. We can perform, we can dance, we can recite, we can participate in any of the activities. And there will be music festivals during the freshers party, and a very well-designed farewell party as well. We have a library, the primary one, and there is also a departmental library for every department. So, basically, there are different libraries. And the faculty provides ebooks and PDFs if needed. We have air-conditioned rooms, projectors, big monitors, and full accessibility to all of them. For sports, the facilities are quite extensive. You can play basketball, volleyball, cricket, football—all the outdoor games as well as indoor games like carrom, puzzles, or chess. There is a chess club. And there’s a poetry club, there’s a magazine, and you can even write your research papers, which will help you get them published.

Ques. I am planning to enroll in a BA English course in IGNOU. What is the procedure of the whole course and important things that I should follow?

● Top Answer By Rahul Sinha on 19 Oct 22

Ans. Opt for this course only if you are into novels and literature. Otherwise, it will be a monotonous ride. If you are planning to pursue BA English at IGNOU, you can conveniently work full time alongside. Instead of attending full-time classes, just sitting for a few will do it. Get your study material and go through it regularly. Don’t forget to apply for term-end exams. Exam applications come around March for the July exams.  You must also submit your assignment at the study centre before the last date. The questions for the assignment can be found on the IGNOU website as well as the study centre. Before the 2nd and 3rd years consult your study centre and choose your desired course and register for it. Lastly, keep in constant touch with your study centre for regular updates.Read more

Ques. How do I apply for a foreign language course in DU?

● Top Answer By Saloni on 10 Oct 22

Ans. Admission to foreign language courses at Delhi University is relatively simple. You must investigate which colleges offer such courses and which languages are available. You should make a list of colleges that you will be comfortable in based on your requirements and the faculty. Once you have a list, go to each college's website and look for all of the information there. The date of form distribution, the application deadline, the fee structure, time slots, and other pertinent information. You can fill out the form online and then keep checking the site for the list. Once the list is published, you must check your name to see if it is on it, and if it is, you must go to the respective college with all of your documents in hard copy. They'll check your documents, and if everything checks out, you'll be seated. After you've been admitted, you must pay the fees online within a certain number of days. Following payment, you will receive an email confirming your registration as a language student. The forms are usually available in June and July, and there is a minimum fee for the form.Read more

Ques. What is it like to do English Hons from Delhi University?

● Top Answer By Manav Batra on 25 Oct 21

Ans. If you are a reading enthusiast and loves to write with a great hold of Grammar, go for English Hons. You should not choose this as your 2nd option because the course is very hectic and requires a lot of concentration and interest.  English Hons is often misunderstood only with British Literature which is not true. You will be reading literature around the world including American, African, European, and Indian.  You must be regular to lectures as they are highly recommended. The faculty at Delhi University for this course is exceptional and their teachings should not be missed. You may find everything online but attending classes has its own advantages.  You will definitely enjoy your experience in the classes while interacting with teachers. It is important to note that your attendance will play a major role in internal assessment.Read more

Ques. How easy is the entrance examination conducted by EFLU Hyderabad for getting into English Hons.?

● Top Answer By Prabhas Sengupta on 16 Jul 21

Ans. The entrance examination conducted by EFLU Hyderabad is not easy for English Honours because there are more than 20 centers where this test takes place. There are certain reservations as well which add up to 50% of all the seats. Even if we don’t consider these numbers, the level of competition will be a real challenge. Also, it is not called BA honors, it is just BA English. One great advantage that you have is that you get to learn a foreign language consecutively for two years. The language that you opt for depends on the merit scored by you in the entrance exam. Spanish and French are usually in good demand. The admission process for this year has been completed. This is not to discourage the students from taking admission but it is important to state the facts. Campuses at Lucknow and Shillong also offer such courses where competition is relatively less. You cannot transfer from one campus to another. If you prepare according to the previous years’ question papers and have a good command of English, then it is not that difficult to get into EFLU.Read more

Ques. Which college is better for an Honors degree in English Loreto College Kolkata or Shri Shikshayatan College??

● Top Answer By Shalini Jaiswal on 20 Jan 22

Ans. Both Loreto College and Shri Shikshayatan College are the most reputed all-girls colleges in Kolkata. Choosing any one of them will prove to be a good step up for your career. Loreto College is popular for its English Honours course. It is more strict compared to any other college. Students here have to maintain a 80% attendance, failing which you will not be able to sit for the examination. Also for subjects with practicals, students have to maintain a 100% attendance in labs. The faculty of the English department is highly experienced with some professors having 15-20 years of educational experience. Shri Shikshayatan College is a bit more liberal than Loreto. It is not so strict about certain rules and students have the freedom to explore. The attendance, dress code, academics, etc. are much more lenient than Loreto. But according to the education provided both are equally good. Choose the one that meets all your requirements, as only that can give you a fulfilling college life.Read more
