I will be paying 17490 yearly. The tution fees is almost 5000 rupees . My admission is free because of free waiver scheme. I have to pay a little amount of money for development, lab fees and the other compulsory charges. Some of my friends have reservation and because of that the amount they are paying is less than mine

Fees and Financial Aid

The total fee I paid for the complete course was Rs. 8,400. This amount covered all the compulsory charges including tution fee, library fee, development fee and all the other applicable charges. There was no seperate breakdown provided and the same fee was applicable to all the students regradless of category. There was no scholarships or financial aids options provided during my time. However, the fees has increased for the new batch. My juniors are paying Rs. 11,200.

Faculty

The faculty to student ratio was average but we had enough teachers and they had a very holistic way of teaching. I really liked Animesh Mohapatra sir. He used to teach us Indian Classical Literature and his understanding for the subject was excellent. We had around 4 exams per sem and they were moderately difficult. Only 2 students failed in my batch. The course curriculum was relevant and helped in overall understanding of the literatue.

Fees and Financial Aid

This college is absolutely taking more money from the students without even giving many opportunities.. Annually the fees is around 30k something and its more than any other college from DU . There is not any type of scholarship or any financial aid for the students.

Campus Life

My overall campus life is not what i expected it to be, it was rather boring , there aren't any extra curricular activities or the sports activities. There aren't any student run social groups. The library is quite good and comfortable.

Faculty

The faculty to student ratio:- The relationship between the faculty and student is quite good. Some professors are very approachable but some not. The faculty of English and Economics are good because they provide you with the help whenever needed. Now in english Faculty there are some members who are careless and sometimes for students it becomes difficult for the student to reach out to someone in case of emergency. There are not any other faculties i found hard to reach.

Faculty

My B. A Hons class had 60 students with 5 professors. The best part was, every one of the professors was extremely approachable and encouraging. Everyone had their individualistic flair. We had different faculties for examinations, Sports, Cultural functions, Magazines and Publications, Seminars, picnics and tours, and a Science and Nature Club. Every faculty consists of around 15 to 20 people. In case of sports, we have NSS, Yoga, Gymnasium, a student council, a placement cell

Fees and Financial Aid

My course was B.A honors in English. The fees for the first year was Rs. 4840. To get a chance at specializing in English with honors, the candidate has to score at least 45% in the 12th board exam or an equivalent examination in the concerned subjects +200 in aggregate of four subjects, or they must have to score at least 55% aggregate marks in the subjects or the subjects related.

Faculty

A few departments like English and Psychology has students more than 30-40. Other than that mostly 10-15 students and 4-5 professors per department. In terms of being cooperative, definitely English department is the best. The professors are extremely nice and helpful. I think I have had a few classes with Psychology department and the professors there are not that good honestly. Plus my friend had to give her back paper thrice due to a mistake done by their professor, so no. The university sets the paper and so far we know University of Calcutta is pretty famous of its back papers. So far quite a few students are already a victim of it.

Campus Life

There is no fest, let me make this very clear from the very beginning. So don't get your hopes high. There's this one Annual Day thing which is pretty similar to that of a normal school. Also there's are several clubs like cultural club, literary club, fashion club etc. We do have a sports day every year.

There are various extracurricular activities and events hosted by the college typically on Saturdays every month or two. The involvement of the students in this considered mandatory and many participate in these cultural festivals enthusiastically! The books respective toeach courses are available in the library. The college issues books compulsory books for the semester from the long-term section of the library. The science departments have advanced tech and appliances available namely advanced equipments in labs of Industrial Chemistry. The Arts departments are also provided with smart classes and interactive sessions via smart-boards! Sports tournament is held annually where hostels compete each other in various sports. Even NSS campaigns and NCC campus are organised in other colleges across West Bengal. There is a student run photography club in our college - Vidyamandira Photography Club, where students explore their shared interest in photography. It is guided by seniors and some faculty members of our college who are trained in photography and the club organizes an annual exhibition for famous photographers throughout the country.

Faculty

There are in total 5 teachers in the department. Some have retired recently. They've currently been replaced by guest lecturers, some of whom are alumnis of our college. All of the teachers of the department challenged us and encouraged new and innovative thought process so as to learn via creative thinking rather than textbook definitions. They provided us space to explore our interests and guided us every step of the way to deeply contemplate and understand the concepts, themes, and subtext of the subjects included in the syllabus. There is only one exam(end-sem exam) per semester with continuous assessments and tutorials making up for the rest of the grade. The syllabus provided us a comprehensive understanding of the whole timeline of English Literature from the Old English period to Modern period and even explored english writings by Indian authors, all of.which are very relevant and necessary for the curriculum.

There were 9 faculties for our batch throughout the three years and we were 30 in a class. So there was a good 1:3 ratio between the faculty and the students. This is one of the foremaost reasons why the students graduated from this particular course however disinterested in the subject, cannot shy away from atleast a good understanding of the basics and in depth idea about the subject if interested. In particular I liked Themeem sir, Ann Susan Ma'am, Jaideep Sir, Ashley Sir, Hannah Ma'am, and Anju Ma'am. As for not liking I don't think there was anybody like that. The exams were according to the system of the University of Delhi, i.e. there were two exams in one semester - Mid-Semster Exam and End-Semester Exam.

Internships Opportunities

So I completed two internships during my time at Stephen's - One was with Network18 CNN-IBN as a desk writer. This was an amazing oppirtunity for the wannabe journalist in me to understand the ropes of the world of journalism. It was an amazing experience enabled to better gauge my future cours of action as a writer. The second internship was with NSDC. An amazing team with even more amazing job profile.

Faculty

The faculty-to-student ratio is 1 professor for 60 students, but a class strength usually does not exceed 30 on a normal day, so it is effectively 1:30. The faculty is highly approachable and is ever ready to help in academics as well as personal matters. Regarding exams, other than end sems, there are 2 internal assessments (IAs) and 2 continuous assessments (CAs) for every core and general elective (GE) papers. The IAs include one test and one assignment, 12 marks each, plus 6 marks for lecture attendance, making it a total of 30 marks. The CAs can include presentations, group discussions, movie reviews, etc., basically anything other than a test, with 5 marks for tutorial attendance, making it a total of 40 marks. Attendance strictness depends upon the faculty, as some professors readily give marks to the entire class for the whole semester, while others like to go by the rules. The difficulty level of the exams is moderate as long as you are studying appropriately and there is rarely a circumstance where students fails to clear the exams.

Campus Life

The even semester is when the fest season is in its full splendor. There are departmental and society fests lined up from February till April, ending with the college fest (Tempest) in May. Zenith (the annual fest of the economic department), Chrysalis (the placement cell's fest), and Litfest (English department's annual fest) are just some of the multiple fests which are held in the months of February to April. The infrastructure facilities are top-notch with the library constituting a wide range of books, which are easily accessible through the opac website. There is a separate room and guided walkway made for the visually impaired as well. Some of the classrooms are gradually shifting to smartboards from blackboards, however air conditioning continues to remain a problem.

The faculty and student relationship is absolutely amazing and welcoming..each professor was so helpful and dedicated to enhance learning...I loved Dr. Sibani Basu , Dr Supriya Mandloi, Dr. Samina Azhar, Dr. Zohra Iqbal, Dr. Sara ..all of these were amazing teachers and I am forever grateful for their efforts they've put in.. I was in Covid batch where we had online classes and still we had amazing classes and we're provided suitable learning materials.. although it was totally a new concept for all of us ..the respective teachers provided their best to make our learning effortless. We had 2 exams..internals and final exams..they provided very good marks.. I've hardly seen any failures in my batch ..the course was relevant enough.

Faculty

The faculty to student ratio is the best one, and the faculty is very approachable. There have been instances where I have just walked into the staff room and talked with the teachers, because of the ease that they make you feel. There's Jobin Thomas, Susan George, Sugandha Sehgal, one of the best faculties out there, because of their immense knowledge. There are no such faculties that I haven't had a good rapport with. There are 6-7 exams, per semester, based on your paper selection, and they are pretty easy to navigate through.

Course Curriculum Overview

The specific aspects of the curriculum that made me choose this course was how the course went beyond the horizon of just typical, conventional literature. It has made me study about disable literature, dalit literature, regional literature, indian, european, american literature and many more, making me expand my horizon and delve deeper into the world of academia.

Ques. I am planning to enroll in a BA English course in IGNOU. What is the procedure of the whole course and important things that I should follow?

● Top Answer By Rahul Sinha on 19 Oct 22

Ans. Opt for this course only if you are into novels and literature. Otherwise, it will be a monotonous ride. If you are planning to pursue BA English at IGNOU, you can conveniently work full time alongside. Instead of attending full-time classes, just sitting for a few will do it. Get your study material and go through it regularly. Don’t forget to apply for term-end exams. Exam applications come around March for the July exams.  You must also submit your assignment at the study centre before the last date. The questions for the assignment can be found on the IGNOU website as well as the study centre. Before the 2nd and 3rd years consult your study centre and choose your desired course and register for it. Lastly, keep in constant touch with your study centre for regular updates.Read more

Ques. How do I apply for a foreign language course in DU?

● Top Answer By Saloni on 10 Oct 22

Ans. Admission to foreign language courses at Delhi University is relatively simple. You must investigate which colleges offer such courses and which languages are available. You should make a list of colleges that you will be comfortable in based on your requirements and the faculty. Once you have a list, go to each college's website and look for all of the information there. The date of form distribution, the application deadline, the fee structure, time slots, and other pertinent information. You can fill out the form online and then keep checking the site for the list. Once the list is published, you must check your name to see if it is on it, and if it is, you must go to the respective college with all of your documents in hard copy. They'll check your documents, and if everything checks out, you'll be seated. After you've been admitted, you must pay the fees online within a certain number of days. Following payment, you will receive an email confirming your registration as a language student. The forms are usually available in June and July, and there is a minimum fee for the form.Read more

Ques. What is it like to do English Hons from Delhi University?

● Top Answer By Manav Batra on 25 Oct 21

Ans. If you are a reading enthusiast and loves to write with a great hold of Grammar, go for English Hons. You should not choose this as your 2nd option because the course is very hectic and requires a lot of concentration and interest.  English Hons is often misunderstood only with British Literature which is not true. You will be reading literature around the world including American, African, European, and Indian.  You must be regular to lectures as they are highly recommended. The faculty at Delhi University for this course is exceptional and their teachings should not be missed. You may find everything online but attending classes has its own advantages.  You will definitely enjoy your experience in the classes while interacting with teachers. It is important to note that your attendance will play a major role in internal assessment.Read more

Ques. How easy is the entrance examination conducted by EFLU Hyderabad for getting into English Hons.?

● Top Answer By Prabhas Sengupta on 16 Jul 21

Ans. The entrance examination conducted by EFLU Hyderabad is not easy for English Honours because there are more than 20 centers where this test takes place. There are certain reservations as well which add up to 50% of all the seats. Even if we don’t consider these numbers, the level of competition will be a real challenge. Also, it is not called BA honors, it is just BA English. One great advantage that you have is that you get to learn a foreign language consecutively for two years. The language that you opt for depends on the merit scored by you in the entrance exam. Spanish and French are usually in good demand. The admission process for this year has been completed. This is not to discourage the students from taking admission but it is important to state the facts. Campuses at Lucknow and Shillong also offer such courses where competition is relatively less. You cannot transfer from one campus to another. If you prepare according to the previous years’ question papers and have a good command of English, then it is not that difficult to get into EFLU.Read more

Ques. Which college is better for an Honors degree in English Loreto College Kolkata or Shri Shikshayatan College?

● Top Answer By Shalini Jaiswal on 20 Jan 22

Ans. Both Loreto College and Shri Shikshayatan College are the most reputed all-girls colleges in Kolkata. Choosing any one of them will prove to be a good step up for your career. Loreto College is popular for its English Honours course. It is more strict compared to any other college. Students here have to maintain a 80% attendance, failing which you will not be able to sit for the examination. Also for subjects with practicals, students have to maintain a 100% attendance in labs. The faculty of the English department is highly experienced with some professors having 15-20 years of educational experience. Shri Shikshayatan College is a bit more liberal than Loreto. It is not so strict about certain rules and students have the freedom to explore. The attendance, dress code, academics, etc. are much more lenient than Loreto. But according to the education provided both are equally good. Choose the one that meets all your requirements, as only that can give you a fulfilling college life.Read more
