IIT Bhubaneswar B.Tech + M.Tech Metallurgical and Materials Engineering: Fees 2026, Course Duration, Dates, Eligibility

Admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) is highly competitive, requiring candidates to pass the JEE Mains and JEE Advanced exams. Annually, about 13 lakh students take the JEE Mains, but only around 1 lakh qualify for JEE Advanced, with roughly 13,000 from the unreserved category securing a spot in IITs. College preferences are managed through JoSAA, which conducts seven rounds of counseling. IIT Bhubaneswar (IIT BBS) features a robust faculty of 143 PhD holders, maintaining a favorable faculty-to-student ratio.

Tuition fees for unreserved students stand at Rs. 1 lakh per semester, with additional costs bringing the annual fee to Rs. 3 lakh. SC/ST/OBC students pay Rs. 20,000 per semester, totaling about Rs. 1.3 lakh annually. Scholarships and fee waivers are available for economically disadvantaged students. In 2023, IIT BBS reported an 86% undergraduate placement rate with the highest package at Rs. 64 lakhs per annum and an average package of Rs. 10 lakhs. About 50 companies participated in placements, including Adobe, Microsoft, and Google.

The institute offers the MCM scholarship for students with a family income below Rs. 5 lakhs, and those earning below Rs. 1 lakh, and SC/ST candidates, receive a full fee waiver. Students with a CGPA of 8 or those who clear GATE in their 5th year are eligible for stipends. Total semester expenses for general category students with a family income over Rs. 5 lakhs include Rs. 100,000 tuition, Rs. 18,000 mess fees, and other charges.

While tuition fees remain unchanged, mess fees have increased. Overall, IIT BBS offers decent placement opportunities, though it may not match tier 1 institutions.
