Remarks
On a whole considering the fees, one must say that studying at Jadavpur University is truly a positive experience. Here we are given enough freedom to do what is best for us. Placements are awesome given you put in a certain amount of effort.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is decent. The exam structure can be improved as almost all of the weightage lies within the end semester exams. I am currently in 2nd year now, and in our freshman year we had 30% for class tests divided into two each and 70% for end sems.
Placement Experience
The job opportunities provided are excellent here. The average placement figures here are top notch and is ahead of the likes of IIEST Shibpur and NIT Durgapur by quite some distance. The average pay package for CS is close to 19 lpa while for IT it's 15 lpa. Those are impressive figures according to me.
College Events
Sanskriti is the main cultural fest held in the main campus. It is the best college fest in Kolkata with only Xavotsav being anywhere close. In our salt lake campus, the main event is CIPPUS which also attracts large sponsors and is the main event for any freshers joining here.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fee structure is dirt cheap. Fees is ?5800/two years for most branches of engineering. However for IT it's around ?30000 per year which is still a very reasonable figure.Compared to IITs which charge around ?120k each sem this is much more affordable for the middle class.
Fees and Financial Aid
As I stated above, the fees is extremely reasonable. However for talented students Jadavpur University has never shied away from helping. Hence there are numerous scholarships for the economically weaker sections. One needs to appear for interview after having filed an application.
Campus Life
The CAB practice ground is present in our Salt Lake campus with KKR players,international players and even team India bigwigs visiting here on match day eve for some practice. Basketball courts, football ground, Table tennis facilities and carrom board is also present.
Alumni/Alumna
Seniors are really helpful. They often guide us on academics and hold Dev Feb sessions which hold us in good stead for the cool stuff happening around us which is not present in our syllabus. Seniors already placed in MNCs help us in the interview process and guide us accordingly.
Admission
For admission into faculty of engineering in Jadavpur University, one needs to appear for WBJEE(West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination). After getting a good enough rank, one should go to their nearest counselling centres for documents verification and hence be a part of the counselling process. After three rounds of counselling, you get the best choice possible within your rank.
Faculty
The faculty is well qualified in most cases. However one might feel the interaction quality tapers off in some subjects. However Jadavpur University constantly ranks within the top 10 in the NIRF rankings and also among the top 700 in the QS rankings only because of the excellent research developed by the faculty here.
