- Attendance is a major issue . Below 66.67% attendance students are detained from giving one paper . This policy is quite pointless as college life is not just about attending classes and tests but also exploring other options for personal growth . I
- The college administration is very slow and doesn’t listen to students. Getting documents verified and approvals can be lengthy leading to frustration among students.Students often face difficulties in getting timely response from the administration.
Course Curriculum Overview
I wanted to pursue B.com Hons since i was interested in accountancy and taxation and wanted to explore the field of finance for which B.com Hons seemed to be the best choice availabe. Talking about real world practicality the course did not meet my expectations, it doesn't really prepare you for real world scenarios. But apart from curriculum other activities taking place throughout the college like various socities and clubs give you hands on experience on real world applications and make you ready for corporate life. I think some major chnages are required in the course curriculum. Firstly unnecessary theoretical content should be removed. Also teahchers should adapt a method that involves imparting more practical knowledge. Examination takes place bi-annaually. Exam takes place after each semester which is approximately of 6 months in duration. Difficulty level os these exams is of moderate level. It's very easy to pass the exams if you start your preparation one month before the exams.
Internships Opportunities
The college's internship cell brings vast variet of internship opportunities . Stipend offered ranges from 5000 to 25000 and even more . Unpaid interships are also offered . Common roles offered are Marketing , HR , Sales , Business Development , Research profiles , etc. Mid range companies are brought by the internship cell . For internship opportunities at top companies , one has to look for opportunities off campus .
Placement Experience
Final year students are eligible for the placement drive. A lot of companies including high level and medium range companies visit the campus for recruitment. Some of the big names visiting the campus are BCG, Deloitte, PWC, KPMG, EY, etc. Highest placement offered was 21,00,000 and average placement offered is 4,00,000. Most of the who sit in the placement drive gets placed. I plan on to doing my masters from Europe after my undergraduation.
Fees and Financial Aid
When compared to other private universities and colleges , the fee structure for shaheed bhagat singh college , delhi university , is quite affordable . For B.com hons first year the fees is ?17000 which is similar for other courses and years . This includes all kinds of extra fees . Various scholarship schemes are also available for those who can't afford it . Various schemes have been introduced by the college principal to help the students from disadvantaged background . The fees has increased from this year as previously it was ?12000 . This increase in fees is due to various construction and development activities that are going on in the college campus for improvement of infrastructure and facilities for the students .
Campus Life
Campus life is very joyful and full of life . There are a lot of societies and clubs that a student can join . From dance clubs to consulting clubs , there is something for everyone . The college library contains vast variety of books in all genres . Morning college library is currently under construction and is expanding in size. The number of books will also increase. Divyotsav is a fest that generally takes place during the month of october around the festival of dussehra . Divyotsav 2024 took place on 23rd of october . It was a great experience . Our annual flagship fest is called Euphoria . This year euphoria won't be conducted since college ground is going under renovation . College societies provide a wide scope for extracurricular activities . various facilities for sports are also available like table tennis , chess , carrom , football , basketball , badminton , dodgeball , stc.
Admission
To get admission into any college of University of Delhi you need to appear in CUET ( Common University Entrance Exam ). Cutoffs vary from college to college depending on how many students apply for that college. I simply chose SBSC over other colleges i was eligible for because it was the best option i had and since i didn't want to go to a girls college so preferred SBSC over DRC and IP and also over ARSD, SGGSCC and all other colleges at this level. I also got admitted in christ Bangalore ( Central Campus ) and Narsee Monjee ( Mumbai Campus ). But these institutions didn't seem worth it and Delhi University in general has a better reputation.
Faculty
Faculty-to-student ratio is approximately 60 to 70 students per teacher since class batch size is around 70 for B.com Hons. Student relationship with the faculty on a general basis is quite satisfactory. some teachers are very helpful and approachable and they teach with passion. Ms. Ranjana Thakur has been a great mentor and teacher so far. She was very helpful throughout the first semester. While on the otherhand there were few teachers who were very arrogant and seemed not interested in teaching. They were not at all approachable. One of my teacher gave me zero on my internals even after appearing in all class tests and submitting assignments on time. They were reluctant to make any rectifications. Talking about exams in delhi university, they are no rocket science but do require a sincere effort in order to pass. I am not sure as to how many students fail in semester exams but this number would be less only since passing exams is not very tough, just maintaing a high CGPA can be challenging.
Night Life
Since college also operates in evening shift , there is a separate library for evening students . College canteen also remains open for evening students . Canteen provides a vast variety of food items at an affordable price . Most of the food itmes taste well . There is a nestle booth also at the campus . There are no hostels on campus so the outstation students have to look for accomodation off campus . One of the most common and popular hangout place among students is authority which is a small market sort of place. Then there is select city and DLF mall which is a two minutes drive from college . And also Qutub Minar and India Gate are very close from college . Lajpat Nagar , Hauz Khas , Malaviya Nagar all are common hangout places among students . Metro connectivity makes it very convenient to travel anywhere in Delhi and Delhi NCR regions. Nearest metro stations to college campus are Malviya Nagar ( Yellow Line ) And Chirag Delhi ( Pink Line ) .
