What Students Say
Likes
- Our college is in the south Delhi area, it is an elite location. The college infrastructure is far better compared to other du colleges.
- Our principal is continuously working on betterment of college infrastructure and the teaching of the college.
- Really like the library of college, it has 2 floors, and is air conditioned. We can also borrow books, specially costly text books easily.
Dislikes
- The college does not offer some of the sports, and even if it does it's mostly for the ones that are already enrolled in those sports.
- The college has a really weird boy to girl ratio. It is 7:1 hence there are very less girls in compared to boys.
- There is a very strict attendance criteria which makes it impossible to be involved in extracurricular activities and even internships which are quite essential.
Course Curriculum Overview
I always wanted to pursue bcom Hons because I feel it is quite relevant to my goals. The curriculum however is bit off, the main subjects are okay but the additional courses like VAC and SEC are quite unnecessary. I feel they add additional burden on the kids and usually they do not add any value to our studies. The tests are usually once in a month and sometimes once in 2 months and the timings is mostly the time of the particular class.
Placement Experience
The students become eligible for campus placement from 5th semester if they do not have any active backlogs. Companies like Deloitte, rsm, Zomato etc. have visited and made 70 average offers. The highest package was of 12 lakhs and whereas the average package is of 5 to 6 lakhs. The usual profiles are of audit, hr, operations and sales. The Percentage of people getting college placement is around 35-40 percent. My plan after degree is to get a placement for college and side by side prepare for higher studies.
Fees and Financial Aid
The yearly fees is between 13000- 15000. It increases accordingly the subjects and the practical subjects. Like last year our fees was 13000 something and we had only 1 practical subject, but since we have 2 practical subjects in 2nd year our fees has increased to 15000. This is for general quota. For sc/st quota the fees is less, I think it's around 10000. There are some scholarships that one can apply for, it is based on categories like ews, sc and st.
Campus Life
There are 2 ethnic fests yearly, one in each semester. The college is great, it has wide variety of books ranging from course books to additional books which are easily accessible. Some of the classrooms have projectors and there are computer labs. The college offers wide variety of sports like football, cricket, basketball, table tennis, athletics etc. There are several student run societies overseen by a teacher Convenor namely rotaract, cdf, marksco, tedxsbsc, SCM, wdc, fis, 180dc etc.
Admission
Students often choose Shaheed Bhagat Singh College for several reasons: Strong Academic Reputation: It's renowned for its quality education and experienced faculty, particularly in fields like Commerce and Economics. Vibrant Campus Life:The college fosters a lively campus culture with diverse clubs, societies, and events, promoting holistic development. Central Location: Its strategic location in South Delhi offers easy access to various facilities and amenities. Affordable Fees:Compared to many private institutions, DU colleges, including SBSC, provide relatively affordable education. When comparing SBSC to other DU colleges, students typically consider factors such as: Course Offerings: The specific courses and specializations offered by each college. Cut-offs: The minimum marks required for admission to different courses. Campus Infrastructure: The quality of facilities like libraries, laboratories, and sports grounds. Faculty: The expertise and experience of the faculty members. Location:The proximity to residential areas and transportation hubs. Admission Process at Shaheed Bhagat Singh College The admission process for undergraduate courses at Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, like other DU colleges, is primarily based on the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) scores. It includes 1. Eligibility:Students must meet the basic eligibility criteria set by DU, including age limits and educational qualifications. 2. CUET: Students need to appear for the CUET and score well in the relevant subjects. 3. Cut-offs:The college releases cut-offs based on the CUET scores for different courses and ccategories. Counseling and Seat Allocation: Students who meet the cut-offs are eligible for counseling and seat allocation. The process involves filling out preferences for courses and colleges. Factors Affecting Admissions: high competition, cut-off, seat availability and reservation policies of the college.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio is bit off, it's 25:1 i.e. one faculty between 25 students. The faculty to student relationship is kinda difficult to stablish in the starting but once it does it's easier to approach them and really easier to co-operate. My favourite faculty was naman jain I really liked his teaching style and he made concepts easier to understand. There are only end sem exams and they are quite moderate and usually students who have studied little bit can also pass the exams. Other than that there is internal test and assessment.
Night Life
There are no gym in college however there are gyms like SFA gym and cafeterias in college close at 8 pm but there are shops nearby like sandwich smugglers, mocktailo cafe and happy accident cafe. College timings are from 8a.m. and it is opened till 8p.m. There are no hostels. Locality is safe to roam at night since it is a student area. There is a place called authority which is a usual Hangout place for students in evening.
