What Students Say
Likes
- Daulat Ram College is a girls’ college, so the campus has only female students. Interaction with boys happens mainly during inter-college events, fests, competitions, and workshops with other DU colleges.
- The faculty is very experienced, friendly, and supportive. Teachers explain topics clearly and keep classes interactive through discussions, presentations, workshops, and tests. They also guide students for exams, projects, and career-related doubts.
- The college offers internships and placement opportunities, mainly for commerce students. Many students get internships during the course. The average package is around 6.5 LPA, and the placement cell provides guidance and support.
Dislikes
- The campus infrastructure is average and needs improvement. Some areas look old and facilities are limited. Compared to other DU colleges, the campus is not very attractive or modern.
- Campus life is not very vibrant as it is a girls’ college. Daily college life feels routine, and the overall energy is less compared to co-ed colleges, despite having events and fests.
- The course is more theory-based. Although presentations are given, more practical learning and real-world exposure would be helpful. Students mostly depend on internships for skill development.
Course Curriculum Overview
I feel the course curriculum is good and relevant. I chose this course because subjects like Accounts, Economics, Finance, and Business Studies are very useful, especially for students preparing for Chartered Accountancy (CA) and other commerce courses. These subjects help in building strong basic concepts. The curriculum is mostly theory-based, but it supports CA preparation, higher studies, and internships. Continuous Assessment like presentations, assignments, and class tests helps in regular study and better understanding. Still, more practical exposure and real-life examples would make learning better. Exams are held every semester, along with internal tests. The difficulty level is moderate. If students study regularly and attend classes, exams are manageable. Adding more practical learning would improve the course even more.
Internships Opportunities
My college provides internship opportunities starting from the 1st semester. Many big companies, the Big 4, and local growing firms offer internships. For beginners, roles in HR, content creation, and graphics are common. After that, it depends on your skills and interests. Most internships give a stipend and help students gain practical experience. Students work on real projects like preparing financial reports, auditing accounts, doing market research, creating content, or designing graphics. These tasks improve skills and give hands-on experience. Every year a big event named INCREMENTUM is held wherein many HR managers from various companies and non profit organisations gather to take interviews of interested students.
Placement Experience
Students in my college can go for placements starting from 5th semester . many big companies including big four (4 ) visit the campus .The highest package was 23.5 lpa and median and avg package is 6.5 lpa .Most students who have got placements are 7 cgpa or above . Companies also provide intership opportunities for better placemnets .We also get guidance from resume building ,interviews and preparation .After finishing my degree I aim for placements and afterwards CAT forIIM's .
Fees and Financial Aid
I am studying B.Com (Hons) at Daulat Ram College, Delhi University. The yearly fee for this course is around ?34,600, which is slightly higher compared to many other DU colleges offering the same course. The fee is paid every year and remains almost the same for all three years. The total fee for the three-year course comes to about ?1.03 lakh. This amount includes tuition fees, registration and admission charges, development fees, library and lab fees, and other compulsory college charges. The fees is same for all the categories and a bit of relaxation is given to Kasmiri migrants and people from PWD categories . Various scholarships schemes are available, such as merit-cum-means scholarships, Delhi University scholarships, and government scholarships through the National Scholarship Portal and students can go for it after registering on the particular websites .
Campus Life
Campus life at my college is okay. Since it’s a girls’ college, the campus is small and needs improvement. Socially, we have good interactions because there are many events. The annual fest, Manjari, happens every year and makes the college lively. Technical festivals are also held in different months. The library has many books and journals, which are easy to access. Classrooms have basic facilities and some technology to help learning. Sports and extracurricular activities are available but limited. Students can join clubs and social groups run by students themselves and a no. Of options are available , one can go and join the club of her choice . These help improve teamwork, communication, and participation in events. Overall, campus life is not very vibrant, but festivals, clubs, and social activities make it fun and interesting.
Admission
I was allotted Daulat Ram College through the CUET-based admission process. First, I appeared for the CUET exam, and after the results were declared, I registered on the CSAS portal of Delhi University. Then, I filled my preference sheet, where colleges like SRCC and LSR were at the top. However, as a general category student, my CUET score was not high enough to get admission in those colleges because their cut-offs were very high. Based on my CUET score, rank, and preference list, I was allotted Daulat Ram College. I accepted the seat because it is a reputed DU college with good faculty and academic environment. The admission process was long, stressful, and competitive, but also exciting at the same time because everything depended on CUET marks and preferences. Overall, the process was fair and transparent.
Faculty
The faculty-to-student ratio in the college is about 1:60. Classes are large, but teachers are friendly and approachable. Students can ask doubts during or after class. Teachers are supportive and help students with studies, assignments, and exams. Most teachers are experienced and teach well. Classes are not boring because teachers use presentations, discussions, workshops, and class tests. They explain topics clearly and help students understand concepts easily. Overall, the teaching quality is good. The course structure follows Delhi University rules. Marks are given through Continuous Assessment (CA) and Internal Assessment (IA). In Continuous Assessment, students give presentations, assignments, and tests. In Internal Assessment, marks are mainly for tests and assignments. Attendance carries 11 marks, so regular attendance is important. There are end-semester exams every semester. Exams are of medium difficulty. Most students pass if they attend classes and study properly. The course is useful for commerce students, but more practical learning would make it better.
Night Life
Since I am a day scholar, I usually leave after classes. Most college facilities like the gym and cafeteria close by 6 p.m., and the library closes at 4 p.m. Hostels have their own timings, but I don’t stay there. Around the college, there are some hangout spots, but most places close early. One place, Patel Chest, stays open later. Students also go to nearby cafes in Kamla Nagar and Hudson Lane to hang out after classes. The locality is mostly safe, but it is quiet at night. Students usually unwind by meeting friends,or going to cafes before everything closes
