IIT kgp through a fresher

The course is advanced compared to that of other engineering institutions. But the relevance of that being taught in the course is questionable, teaching can be improved by providing ability to attend ckasses through online methods. The timings of exams are well organised and in my opinion provides with sufficient time for each exams.

Internship oppurtunites provided in IIT KGP are plenty but i dont know much as i am still yet to participate in any internships. Internships are availiable to students from the second year ownwards.The largest internship is peovided by optiver a trading firm.

Students are offered campus placement in the last year, they can di internships from the second year itself, I am not much knowledgeable of this as i am still in the first year itself. I would say that 85% of all students are getting placed.

The total fees for iit estimates to 10 lakh as per my knowledge for a btech general student, but myself being an obc student allows me to gain a fee waiver which evaluates to 2/3rd of the course fees.I am also availing mcm scholarship (Merit cum means) which provides me with a 1000 rs for each moment i am present here.

The sheer number of societies open to students in IIT KGP is overwhelming in its own, The first semester mainly comprises of Group discussions and interviews to get into such clubs. Society give us a friends group outside of that in our class.

Hostel provided varies widely on the hostel allotted to us, Freshers are all alloted to a same hostel LBS for boys and SNVH for girls. It is pretty affordable. There is no facility for PG in my knowledge, Food as i have already said varies widely with the hostel alloted

I chose my college mainly on the best college that i could achieve using my rank in jee advanced, the help of seniors in my choice made it a no brainer. As i had taken a drop it was a do or die situation for me , I had done my best to get this.

An academic year in iit kgp consists of 2 semester each having approximately 90 working days, academics in iit kgp are laid back compared to that of other iits ,facilty are kind and easily approchable, Mr Atul jain of Mechanical department being my favourite along with Mr Pavan Kumar of Mathematics dept. In my opinion it is as hard as to get excellent as it is to fail in most subjects. Each sem mostly comprises of two class tests, one mid sem exam, and an end sem exam.

Night life i would say is pretty good, All hostels have no restrictions and can be entered or exited at any time of the day. This allows for nightouts etc. It is generally safe to roam around at night.
