Course Curriculum Overview

4

I always had an interest in politics, hence my decision to choose this course. The subjects are interesting for example international relations, public administration, etc. However the teaching methods and equipment is not suitable for todays technological world. Smart boards can be installed in classrooms for virtual learning through ppts, videos.

Internships Opportunities

2

The college does not provide internship opportunities in the first year as far as i know. However there are different seminars and discussions organised which might help the students in getting to know more about the internship opportunities around.

Placement Experience

3

I donot have much information about the placement process. But the average package offered in my course is 7 lakh per annum. My plan is to pursue masters in international relations after completing my graduation and then working in the private sector.

Fees and Financial Aid

Course fees for BA political science hons at Kirori Mal College, DU is 15000 per annum. This is excluding the examination or hostel fee. Examination fees for my course is rs 200 for each subject. The college has different scholarships for students who meet a certain CGPA criteria.

Campus Life

5

The campus life of KMC is really good. There is always an event happening in college. There are various societies and clubs; educational and for fun. For example, there is La politique which is the political science society, Bhoomi which is the eco club etc. The annual fest of KMC, Renaissance happens in April every year.

Admission

My preference was Hindu college, Lady shri ram college over Kirori Mal College, DU. I preferred both those colleges over mine because the faculty, campus life and placements of those are better. However i was unable to get into them due to not meeting the cut off in the CUET examination. Cuet is the common university entrance test which is an mcq based paper. The cut off for Kirori Mal College was 776 while Hindu's was 794 and LSR's was 782.

Faculty

3

There are around 40 students in each class in my department. There are two sections for each year and there are around 12 professors in political science department. The professors are well versed with their subjects however their teaching methods are quite outdated. There is only one exam held at the end of each semester. The questions are rather easy and repeated from pyqs.

Night Life

5

The campus area around the college is really happening. There is a huge market which is set up everyday right outside the doors. Theres food stalls, shopping centres, cafes everywhere. There are many pgs also available in the area. The college campus is open from 6 am to 8 pm.

Other Applied Colleges

Hindu College | Bachelor of Arts [BA] {Hons.} (Political Science)

I opted for this college but did not meet the cut off for BA political science hons.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Our college offers a good mix of theory and real-life application, making it a good choice for anyone genuinely curious about how the human mind works. It also balances academics with hands-on experiences—students don’t just read about psychology in theory, they actually get to practice it through labs, experiments, internships, and field visits. Regular workshops, seminars, and presentations keep the learning process interactive and help build communication and analytical skills that are useful both inside and outside the classroom. Recently a resilience workshop was held by an alumni of MSCW, where we got deeper insights about how resilience can be built, how coping works and how some coping techniques can be bad for u.

Dyal Singh Placements aren't that hefty that I can boast a lot about them. Since I have already mentioned in previous section that I want the deepest knowledge of political science and the only way, one can gain that is by doing masters. Coming to DSC placements over 30% students of Political Science from our college are placed via campus.

Media people as Hindi Hons students obviously have chane there or researches. Some even pursue freelance things as college provides the perfect platform to gain confidence and showcase the skills. Otherwise research or political expert roles are the only roles offered to Hindi Hons students. Since I want a complete command I will be doing masters in Hindi Hons.

DSC placements are not that great as around 30-40% students are placed and that is how it is here. Most students of Political Science go for higher studies or get job opportunities in political consultancy or journalism.

For placements, there's not much on campus placement programs. Our placement cells are active though. Time to time they keep us posted about the upcoming internship or job opportunities and even invite various organisations for placements. You can even look for off campus placement programs and teachers are very helpful in this. They even offer letter of recommendation for the internship opportunities upon request.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I love the course I have opted for in the College. I had so much interest in literature since I was in school, hence made the decision to opt for English Honours in my undergraduate degree. The curriculum of this particular course is easy to get, teaches practical knowledge. We have Internal Assesment and Continuous Assessment before theory exams. In continuous assessment, we are given some topic to make presentation or a group discussion from our sense of knowledge and experience. Speaking up in a crowd and in front of the whole class gives the practical knowledge of being there, present, confidence and speak up your thoughts I would love if we can also watch theatre within the curriculum as we read various plays but watching and analysing them would be great. Mostly the exams are held in December and May, they are moderate level of examination and I have found absolute no difficulty sitting in them and writing. We get 3 hours for the core subjects, and 1 hour for our respective VACs, SECs and AECs.

Area that should be improved that is treat every student similarly without any discrimination. Faculty don't even tdke action on sol, IGNOU and NCWEB students. So I think it should be improved firstly.

So there is a placement cell here in LSR that serves as a mediator between recruiters and students and provide adequate placement opportunities for students from various departments. Also companies like Blackstone, accenture, nomura come for placements and the highest package that has been offered to a student was INR 45 LPA!

The course curriculum I took is okay considering the low placement percentage from the college's side which is I would say sometimes bad and good at the same time as the students can find their own way around such things. Faculty just complete the topics. we have to study ourselves.
