Course Curriculum Overview
I chose PGDM and specialized in Marketing and Information Management due to my prior work experience in IT sector along with my liking for Digital Products. The curriculum includes highly relevant courses like Data Visualization, Data analysis, Data-driven marketing, Consumer behaviour, CRM which are used on a daily basis in the industry. The frequency of exams and assessment is ideal and provides enough time to absord the course content as well as apply the learnings during exams. Areas of improvement -- Sharing more assignments regarding real-world applications Increasing the duration of summer internships
Internships Opportunities
The college provides summer internships (in the months of April to June) after the first year ends. The placement process for this begins as soon as a studnet takes admission in the first year and interviews for the same are conducted from September to October of the first year of study. I interned at Tata 1mg in the founders office and had a stipend of 1,25,000 INR per month. The project I was working on was incorporating the use of GenAI in the customer support function to reduce the cost while mainitaing the CSAT. The outcome was positive and resulted in increased agent productivity, reduced ticket abandonement rate, improved CSAT.
Placement Experience
Students are eligible for final placements from the 5th term onwards. The placements can last upto 2-3 months. Major companies recruiting from the college are - Accenture Strategy, Deloitte, Everest Group, Coca-Cola, ITC, Flipkart, Amazon, Microsoft, Telstra and the batch of 320 was signed out. (320 students placed, around 10 recieved multiple offers) The highest package was offered by a start-up called Motorq (60 LPA CTC) The average package was 24 LPA for the PGDM batch. My plans after getting placed is to work on digital products and work in Founders staff role or product management and drive impactful initiatives.
Fees and Financial Aid
Total program fees paid for PGDM (2 year course) from 2022-2024 was 24,00,000 INR. The fees is same irresepctive of the category of student. There are scholarships provided on the basis of Merit (calculated on the basis of CGPA) and merit cum need. There are 2 other programs - PGHRM, and PGDM-IB. The fees for PGHRM is the same as PGDM (24 Lakh INR for the full course). The fees for PGDM-IB (International Business) is around 30 Lakh INR (other additional components like Visa, and hostel fees for the International college are seperate). Hostel / stay fees is not included in this. The total program fees covers all components like Tuition fees, security deposit, hostel fees, educational resources fees for PGDM and PGHRM. For these 2 courses, the fees is paid in 2 installments (paid at the time of admission and at the commencement of 2nd year).
Campus Life
The annual fests included Imperium (held in Feb), Delphique (Nov) and Illumina (Sep). The library has an exhaustive collection of research journals, course books, and fiction and non-fiction books. The classrooms have Projectors, smart boards, AC and adequate seating arrangements. The sports facilites include badminton, tennis grounds, gym and football ground. Their are several student run groups like TEDx, Photography club, dance club, music club and so on. The selections for the same are done at the beginning of first year
Hostel Facilities
Hostel - Twin sharing rooms. Provision of AC (centrally air conditioned), cupboard, study table and chair in the room. Room area is around 40 square meters. The hostels are well ventilated. Some hostels also have attatched balcony and washrooms. The mess food is hygenic and had a good variety of options. The courses are run residentially and students must opt in for hostel services. The fees is included in the cumulative program fees and is very nominal for the location and facilites provided.
Admission
I chose MDI Gurgaon over XLRI Delhi, IIM Shillong, new and baby IIMS, NITIE - PGDSM. The reason for choosing MDI was its proximity to my hometown, Tier 1 status. I was rejected from IIM ABCLKI and FMS - Delhi mostly on the basis of my undergrad scores and a CAT percentile which was not high enough. The admission process was an interview shortlist on the basis of profile and CAT score, followed by an interview and the release of a merit list. The admission process was clear and hassle free and all updates were communicated timely.
Faculty
Course structure - Each year is divided into 3 terms (total 6 terms) The first year has compulsory courses - same for all students. The second year has elective courses which vary on the basis of the specialisations. Faculty - The faculty to student ratio for PGDM is around 1:20. Notable faculty includes Anshul Jain (Finance), Nakul Gupta (Information Marketing) and Madhushree Sarkar (HR-OB). Their grasp on their area of expertise, along with the case studies and discussion shared in the class sessions was very insightful. Exams - Each term has 2 exams - mid terms and end terms. Their are surprise quizzes and assignments in between that. The difficulty level varies from Moderate to High depending on the course. In my batch, there was no student who failed to clear the exams or had to repeat an year. The course curriculum is highly relevant and the case studies provide a glimpse of the challenges and tasks that usually come up in a corporate setting.
Interview Experience
There was a single round of interview for admission taken by 2 senior faculty members and lasted 30 mins. The interview was around my profile, current events and expectations from a management college. I prepared for the interviews on my own by referring online resources and discussing with my seniors from undergrad college.
Night Life
Their are 3 places to eat in the campus. One of them is open during classhours, the other 2 are operational for the whole day (except 4 AM to 6 AM). The mess is open for 4 meals a day. The campus in-timing is 8 PM. There is no hostel in-timing. The library closes at 9 PM (extends till 2 AM during exams) The famous places to hang-out in the college are Sharmas (Canteen) and Nescafe. The campus is safe for everyone however the areas outside are relatively unsafe during the night.
