Remarks
JU is the best state college in West Bengal. Along with your career it allows to persuade your hobbies as well. I was part of the student body FETSU which looks after the students' interest and sits in a discussion with authority to decide the policy best for the students. In short, JU made me a complete person that I am today.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is extremely demanding and fun at the same time. The teachers are extremely sincere. Regularly attending classes is enough for securing good grade in semesters. There are 8 semesters in total course in 4 years. In each semester there are two sets of internal class tests for each subject as well. So one has to study really hard all year to obtain good grades.
Placement Experience
The placement opportunity is as per the IIT standard or even better than newer IITs. JU directly does not provide internships but the teachers can arrange for industrial internships if any student requires. The overall placement experience is awesome. I had sit for 5-6 interviews and cracked PwC finally. During our placement season more than 50 companies came to recruit students across all engineering disciplines.
College Events
The college annual fest Sanskriti is known as the durgapuja of JU. The main fest runs for 5 days and there is feel good vibe all around. There is tech fest Srijan where all engineers with their innovative minds shows off their innovation. Besides these there are different seminars, reunions takes place.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure is probably the cheapest in India. We had to pay merely around Rs 1500 per semester for tution fees and examination fees. For hostel another Rs 1000 per month was required. Besides these another one time fee of Rs 3000 is required during admission.
Fees and Financial Aid
All the central and state scholarships are available like the merit cum means scholarships. There are different scholarships for poor but meritorious reserved category students and minority students as well.
Campus Life
The labs in mechanical engineering department are one of the best in country. The machine workshop is second largest in asia and hosts various kind of CNC, lathe. For every kind of extra curricular activity, there are clubs made by students themselves where interested people can take part. There are drama club, quiz club, photography club and so on. JU playground is one of the best in Bengal and Ranji trophy matches by CAB are hosted here.
Hostel Facilities
I did not get hostel as the distance of my home town is within 60 km from college campus. Many of my friends were in hostel and I have visited many times. Hostel infrastructure is like any other college hostel with playground, basket ball ground and indoor games.
Alumni/Alumna
There are Facebook groups for alumni and every year a departmental reunion takes place. So the network is pretty good. All the seniors are extremely helpful and are always ready to help whenever they can.
Faculty
They are one of the best in country in their respective subjects. Most of the teachers have post doc degrees in their subject. Most of the teachers have come to teaching profession after spending a fair amount of time in industries. So they know exactly what is needed for those who opts for job after 4 years.
