Remarks
I have only good things to say about my college as it helped me to become a more confident person than I ever was.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course structure is very detailed. There would be hardly any aspect related to history that isn't covered in the syllabus. It is both relevant and fair. However, it could be more research-driven than it is now. The course made me more analytical and enabled me to question everything and not trust any information blindly.
College Events
The annual cultural fest of MH is Tempest which lasts for three days. All departments also host separate fests. The department events are also held throughout the year in the form of seminars and conferences. Some department also organizes fairs like book fair to pool money for various activities.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee for the first year was around 8 thousand rupees. The fee increased to 10 thousand rupees in the second year and remained the same more or less for my third year of study. The fee was charged annually. The fee also included the semester examination fee.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
I did not opt for any scholarship or educational loan. But there are plenty of scholarships available for students of all courses.
Campus Life
Miranda House is a girl's college but the campus life is not boring. Students from all over the country and even out of India come to Miranda House and hence the culture is very diverse. The college also has various societies like dramatics, enacts, Indian classical dance and music, etc that helps you grow as a person. The sports department encourages various games like chess, basketball, etc.
Alumni/Alumna
I don't know much about the alumni network. However, the senior students were always helpful. Never felt uncomfortable interacting with the seniors from day one.
Admission
My best of 4 subjects percentage was above the first cut-off for BA History Hons. The deadline for taking admission was until 3 days from the day the cut-off was published. After reaching Miranda House, I was asked to fill out a form and go for verification of my documents. Then I was sent to the department where the teachers asked 2 or 3 questions related to my decision of taking admission in Miranda House. Then I was sent to pay the fee and get a few more documents verified. The full process lasted for about 2 hours. But it was very simple and hassle-free.
Faculty
The faculty is par excellence. The history department of Miranda House is counted amongst the best history departments of the university colleges and it is only due to the quality of teaching that the faculty provides. The tutorial discussions are very useful and a student like me, who was very under-confident in the first year, should not miss the tutorials at all. It helps one to develop as a very confident person.
