A review about life in CET, as an Mtech structural engineering student

I choosed structural engineering because of thinking it will have better job opportunities. In first semester,we only have theoretical subjects and in micro project we will have to learn softwares like ABAQUS, ANSYS, Matlab according to the project It's a bit difficult. The subjects are hard and only one series exam and one semester exam. For 2 hours and 60 marks

In first semester so far no placement for structural engineering had came. Basically for Mtech placement is less compared to Btech. And especially for civil Engineering streams it's too less. College is saying many companies will visit in coming days. In Btech in other streams like CS,EEE most of them are placed when it comes to civil it's less to get placed in core companies. In Mtech only a few get placed in core companies. My aim is to get placed in any company. Preference is a core company but it's ok if get any other companies also

For Mtech after getting the allotment we have to pay 12242 which are Admission fees- 252/- Tution fees- 6615/- for 1 semester Special fees- 3875/- per year Caution deposit - 1500/- So a total of 12242/- I am studying in CET Thiruvananthapuram, here an amount of 18,000/- has to be given as PTA fund while joining, which is a huge amount and most of them know about this while coming for admission. This amount may vary from college to college. For SC, ST, OEC students 12,242 paid at the time of allotment is getting refunded

There are alot of programs in CET, whether conducted by SFI or KSU and all special days like onam, halloween, Xmas are celebrated in common Department wise programs are conducted,for civil pantheon likewise for all departments there are department programs And arts, sports,techfest, drishti, etc are conducted in each years There are a lot of books available in Library but the college is not having access for ASCE journals. Other journals are also available in Library Every class room is having projectors and have adequate facilities CET is having a lot of extra curricular activities also.And promote the talents of students And there are a lot of clubs like IEEE,EDC , literature clubs,etc. But are mainly for Btech . Mtech students are not in any clubs. May be they also can but non of them are joining

I am studying as a paying guest outside since I don't get college hostel. 4 members in a room with an attached bathroom. Its clean and neat. Only MSN Provide regular meals and that is only in the afternoon.which is good For college hostel, first the allotment have to came and the selection is based on income and distance.Have to fill application form and pay an amount of 14410 which includes a caution deposit of 5000 and one month bill of 3000 and rent of 310 and hostel PTA of 6000 I am staying opposite to Julian villa xylem hostel

My first preference was CET and I got CET in my first allotment. The reason to choose it is because it is considered to be the best government Engineering college in Kerala. Main preference to get admission in CET is gate qualification. And also reservations like SC,ST,EWS also have great consideration even if they are non gates. Those who have qualified gate is considered in the first preference other than the CGPA they obtained during their degree

In Mtech structural Engineering, there are 37 students. Most of the facilities are senior faculties having a lot of experience. They are not so friendly type. A few of thems classes are understanding others not. First semester is very rush. We will get almost 4 months and for every subject there will be assignment, presentation, report,micro project. There is only 1 series test and that only contribute 10 marks. Most of the internal marks are for micro project, presentation etc. The core subjects like Structural dynamics and theory of elasticity are difficult.

There are a few cafeteria near the college. Mohabbat,MSN etc . Most of them have their food from here. The timing is till 9:30pm in ladies hostel also. Gazebo are the spots most of them will be to sit and relax and also in dwani stage area. At night so far we don't face any difficulty
