Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The course that i chose which was philosophy was and entirely new scope for me when i first apied for an admission. It peaked my interest so thats is why I took it. The course are a really interesting subject and i heard that i was also a new subject which was recently introduced in the college. I was skeptical in the beginning being a new subject just introduced that the teachings wouldnt be up to par. But my Professor were actually great in teaching us the subject and spent a great deal of time with us to understand and have a better grasps on the subject. But its a really difficult subject to master as you have to give your utmost focus and understand the teachings the teachers provided. So overall it is excellent.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee structure is basically you have to pay yearly for two semester each in which my course is till the 6th semester. You pay the fee of approximately 9000 rupees each for each year you attend in college i,e 1st and 2nd year after that you have to pay for the 3rd and 4th semester and so on till the 6th semester. So basically i have paid my fee a total of 3 times in my 3years in college. And considering the facilities and the teaching that they provide in my college i.e Dyal Singh College, the sum of Rs.9000 approx per year you have to pay for my 3 years in college is actually too good for its price.

Campus Life

2.5

Some of the well known annual celebrations held in the college for example is college fest, northeast fest, freshers meet etc. Overall the feels and vibes of the celebration is actually disappointing to an extend because we barely see students and teachers being involved in this type of celebrations and this is one of the demerits of the college. Also the student-run social groups, clubs or student portals including the their impact on student life is also somewhat disappointing. It is mostly disfunctional at best. When you have a problem with a specific problem and you have to consult the student groups or clubs associated with the problem, most of the time they dont know what to do and you actually end up going to teachers and faculty staff for consultation. Also about the sports faculities and activities on campus is also not well maintained and disfunctional.

Admission

So the reason i chose this college was mainly because of subject preference and college location. Since i am living in south delhi, it was actually pretty near for me to attend regular classes everyday. Being in south delhi I could have opted better colleges like venki in moti bagh but i was able to find a good subject that i was interested in taking. When i heard of my college from an alumni it peaked my interest and began to google and reseach about the college. And I found that it was the third best college in south delhi in the whole of DU. So that is also one reason that presuaded me to choose this college.

Faculty

5

The faculty in the college overall are really helpful to us and the student and have always go beyond for us to get our issues resolved. There was one time where i had missed the deadline day to submit the examination forms and was running everywhere but was told that it was already too late to resolved my issue. So, with no place left to go i went and approach the principal of the college and with his help and the help of the admission faculty staff, they went far and beyond for me to get my issue resolved so that i can give my exams and caused them a great deal of hassle for my own carelessness and will forever be in their debt. There are actually no faculties I dislike in the 3 years of college because they were incredibly helpful to me. About the exams, on a scale of 1-10, i'd probably say about an 8 for my course but that is my opinion. Surprisingly, there are'nt a lot of student failing to clear the exams in the experience. There might be and odd 1 or 2 student who failed.

Course Curriculum Overview:

British classics, Indian writing, postcolonial literature builds a strong foundation in literary analysis, critical thinking, and interpretation, which are useful skills. As for comprehensiveness, the curriculum is quite broad. It covers multiple literary periods, genres, and critical theories over the three years, so you’re not really missing out on the essentials. In that sense, it feels academically complete. But sometimes, it leans more towards breadth over depth you move quickly from one topic to another.

There's a placement cell and placement drives do happen in college but genuinely the package offered is not really considerable. After the 4th semester students are considered to sit in the placement drives though I would say it is not very efficient and fruitful.

Placement Experience:

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

The reason why I choose this subject because I like history and want to know more about it . History have the best opportunities to pursue the UPSC , Anthropology, archeology and we can learn more about historical researches . The faculty im the department of history is updated and well versed in the field of history and have adopted student friendly teaching methods which make me suggest this subject in JMC to the students who likes to pursue higher studies in history. The exams are conducted at the end of every semester with moderate difficulty level .
