IIT KGP: A Review of an Institute of National Importance

All departments have department-specific courses including basic Engineering Courses for the first year followed by real World Application courses, that are Industrially aligned. There are Courses aligned directly to the field of the department, for example, my Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering includes Courses like Soil Technology, and Crop production Technology.

IIT KGP provides both On campus and Off-campus placement opportunities for the students.The CDC provides a proper framework for the students for On-campus placements. IIT KGP has various Global tieups do students can also proceed for Summer Training in various world-class Institutes. Many students also apply for Gov based internships like DRDO,ISRO.

IIT Kharagpur is known for its Strong placement record across various departments and interdisciplinary areas. Last year IIT KGP set a record of the fastest 4000 placements across the nation. Career Development Centre of IIT KGP manages the entire placements of The campus ensuring proper connect between students and recruiters. Tech Giants like Google, Microsoft, Intel, Oracle, Apple visit the campus Consulting firms like Mckinsey BCG etc also visit the placements. With the placements record crossing over 90% across many departments, IIT KGP has an average package of 24 lakhs and a Median of around 20 lakhs.

The Fees Structure of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur is divided into numerous parts. The tuition fee( for family income> 5 lakhs) accounts to 1 lakh + Total Refundable Fee of 6000 including Institute Caution Money, Library Caution Money, and Hostel Caution Money; followed by a ' Total Onetime Fee' of INR 5700 including Alumni Subscription, Medical Examination, Student Welfare fund, Modernization Fee, Statutory Fee and Hostel Admission Fee. The Hall Establishment Charge, Hostel Overhead Charge, Hall Budget, mess charges Each semester equals to 20130,970,1000,14500 respectively Accounting to a GRAND TOTAL of 1,56,750 per Semester. Tution Fee is Free for SC/ST/PwD and for UR/EWS/OB-NCL Family income limit< Rs 1 lakh p.a. For Family income ranging between 1 and 5 lakhs, Tution Fees = 33335 Rupees. For Foreign Students : For SAARC country students Tution Fees Rs 2 lakh; and 6 lakh per annum for Students other than SAARC countries.

Excellent Campus life. IIT KGP is the Largest IIT among all the IITs, having a campus area of over 2100 Acres, it provides the students with the best of the sports, social, and cultural opportunities. A proper olympic Sized Swimming pool, Indoor Badminton, Table Tennis, Squash facilities, 2 Full fledged Cricket and 2 full fledged football Grounds under the same Tata Steel Sports Complex. One of Asia's Largest Libraries with around 2.7 lakhs physical books and as many online. IIT Kgp hosts Asia's Largest Astro Techfest(National Students' Space Challenge- conducted in november), Asia's largest Techno management Fest(Kshitig-conducted in January) , the sports Fest - Shaurya (conducted in October), and the annual Fest Known As the 'SPRING FEST' From Technology clubs to management clubs, IIT KGP contains numerous Clubs/Societies spanning over all interests for the children (Run by the Students) the classrooms(Fully Airconditioned) contain both Blackboards and Projector Screens.

A total of 26 Boys Hostels and 9 Girls Hostel in campus, with very spacious rooms: Single/ Double /Triple /Quadruple depending on the Hostel. Mess Food 4 times a day is provided with proper hygiene and taste, The hostel contains its own Snacks Shop, Grocery SHop, and an Overnight Canteen. A wifi Speed of over 500 is available for each student. The registration for hostel is done during the admission process.

The admission to IITs is done through The Joint Entrance Examination or the JEE, I secured a rank of 9298 in the JEE Advanced 2024, having option of multiple IITS, I chose IIT Kharagpur as my college due to its vast opportunities, each student gets + the IIT KGP tag+ the various guest lectures and societies + the best infrastructure and the extremely large campus.

Excellent Professors who are always ready to help at any time of the day. Every Student has been assigned 2 faculty advisors who help the Student in all aspects. Faculties focus more on making the Students Learn the Subject and making them better Engineers. Each Semester consists of One MIdsemester Examination and One End Semester Examination. With both being of medium to hard level. The faculty to Student ratio is 1:19 best across all Universities in India. All Professors are highly qualified and are Excellent Teachers. MY personal Favourite Teacher is Prof. Naveen Kumar Garg, who is from the dept of Mathematics.
