life at IIT KGP

The implementation of NEP and abolition of dept change is a major change as it reduces the load from the student and can enjoy the first year of the college life after the hectic 2 year of JEE preparation. Also the students can now opt for dual major/minor if they wish to learn specialization in other feilds as well.

After the 4th semester companies offer CDC interships to many of students based on certain ceriteria. like company like Nvidea only takes student from of EC department. the stipend varies depending on the skill set of student ranging upto 2.4 lacks per month

The students become eligible for placements after there 6th semester . But there is also a province of Pre Placement Offers where the students can secure there jop in the 5th semester itself. Many big names like google, microsoft , Nvidea and others visits the companies and a total 1600 offers were made in the year 23-24. the highest package was 2.3 cr and the average package stood for around 16lPA.

the fee structure considering the opportunities an IIT provide is justified. its a one time investment which will definitely yeild big paybacks if you used the resources wisely. the fee structure i paid was 2.6 lack anually for my first year which is devided into two semester fee . the first semester was 1.3 lacks and same will be oaid during the second semester. the st/sc categories student are extempted from paying the tution fees and those for obc and ews they have to pay the one third if the tution fees.

One of the perks of getting into IIT KGP is that you get access to several events that take thrugh out the year. one of them is kshitiz which is the asiast largest tech fest generally take place in the month of feb. The central library is equiped with more 10000 books and students have both online and offline access to those. there also many student run societies in which one can engage and make friends.

I prefered IIT KGP over other colleges because of its rich history and exposure to foreign companies. I was also getting a sit in IITM chemical but i chose mechanical engineering over chemical because of more opportunities that mrchanical engineering provide. For getting admission in IIT KGP students must secure a good in rank in jee if one wants to get into the core branch.

the teachers are very cooperative and for the convinience of the students special teaching assisstants are assingned who help the students with there academic doubts and assingments. there is monthly class test which is moderately tough . then there are mid sems and end sems ehose difficulty depends on the subject. for my first year i found ET paper comparetively tougher then other papers.
