Remarks

Overall college is good but there are some times fight and mischiefs between the students. The college has a positive environment and is very good for extracurricular activities. The college infrastructure is very good there is also a lift in the college building, there is also a bank in the college and also has a canteen in the college.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course I took B.A Programme with main subjects was very easy. Economics I got in the 1st semester was very easy and everything was from 12th standard and a very less content was not from 12th standard Microeconomics textbook. The English were also very easy it contains one book which has a poem and simple short stories. Apart from these main 2 subjects, I have to study 2 more subjects and those were English Advance and English Communication. In every semester these subject got replaced from a new subject like in 2nd semester English Advance was replaced from Hindi-'B'. I got Hindi-'B' as I have studied Hindi till 10th standard, and English Communication got replaced by EVS. Overall the 1st semester was very easy and I got 7.09 CGPA. It can make our career better because they tell us how to apply the laws in real life.

Placement Experience

2.5

There is a society for placement in the college which is called placement cell. Which tell us about the company coming into the college and help us land a job in the company. College doesn't provide any internships, the student themselves have to approach the company for the internship.

College Events

5

Each and every college in the University of Delhi hosts fest. Fest lasts about 2-3 days apart from this, there is also Departmental fests. In college fest singers and celebrities come and perform. Only one day the singer or celebrity performs, the other days there are different competitions like fashion shows, selfie-taking competition, etc.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Each college has a different fee structure. In Zakir Hussain College Evening the fee for B.A Programme was around Rs.9000 but in Shyam Lal College Evening it was Rs10,800. If a student has marks above 70-75% in the previous examination then he/she can apply for fee concession.

Fees and Financial Aid

No, I haven't opted for any scholarship or education loan. There is a scholarship for SC/ST/PWD students they have to submit a form and avail the scholarship.

Campus Life

5

The hostel is not provided by the college, students have to live in pg. The college has an equal number of girls and boys. The college has different labs like chemistry lab and physics lab. The college has a dance room and also has a place for the drama society where they can prepare their act. There is also girls common room, sports room and NCC room in the college.

Alumni/Alumna

I didn't meet any alumni but my seniors are very helpful. They told me about the different societies in college, and they also told me about the environment of the college and about the teachers. They also helped me in the studies.

Admission

I got admission in this college through cut-off marks. The registration process started on 15th May 2018. After filling registration form I have to wait for the 1st cut off which was released on 19th June'18 but I didn't get admission through 1st cut off as my percentage was 67.16%. After the 3rd cut-off, I got admission in Zakir Hussain College Evening in B.A Programme with main discipline as Hindi and economics but I don't want to study Hindi. So just for the safe side and securing admission in one college I took admission in that college. After the 4th cut-off, I got admission in Shyam Lal College Evening in B.A Programme with main discipline as English and economics. Finally, I got the subjects I wanted to study. I have also applied for BMS, I gave the entrance exam for that but was unable to get the cut off marks. As I have commerce in 12th my parents told me to take B.com but I don't want to study accounts so I decided to take the B.A Programme and take English and economics as main subjects. The admission process in Zakir Hussain College Evening was very complex as I have to go to many places to get my documents verified but in Shyam Lal College Evening it was very easy I have to fill the form and submit my Mark sheet and got the slip of fee and admission done.

Faculty

3.5

College faculty was nice. The staff was very helpful and polite. Teachers are always ready to teach us and clear our doubts. There is a Class Representative (CR) in every class, teachers tell that CR when he/ she is not able to take attend classes. Teachers will help you every time like they will give you notes and will also tell you the important questions going to come in the exams. If you have any problem related to a particular subject just go the head of that department and they will help you.

Course Curriculum Overview:

British classics, Indian writing, postcolonial literature builds a strong foundation in literary analysis, critical thinking, and interpretation, which are useful skills. As for comprehensiveness, the curriculum is quite broad. It covers multiple literary periods, genres, and critical theories over the three years, so you’re not really missing out on the essentials. In that sense, it feels academically complete. But sometimes, it leans more towards breadth over depth you move quickly from one topic to another.

There's a placement cell and placement drives do happen in college but genuinely the package offered is not really considerable. After the 4th semester students are considered to sit in the placement drives though I would say it is not very efficient and fruitful.

Placement Experience:

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

The curriculum was overall good and being a economics honours courses it was challenging at times. The course offers many things for students interms of their further academic pursuits or any placement they are looking for. Talking about the areas of improvement and teaching methods there are none. The exams of the respective subject are to happen. They take test 1 , test 2 and there is final exams.

The reason why I choose this subject because I like history and want to know more about it . History have the best opportunities to pursue the UPSC , Anthropology, archeology and we can learn more about historical researches . The faculty im the department of history is updated and well versed in the field of history and have adopted student friendly teaching methods which make me suggest this subject in JMC to the students who likes to pursue higher studies in history. The exams are conducted at the end of every semester with moderate difficulty level .
