Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

Course curriculum is not bad, that's all to say. I would like to say the course curriculum is an old outdated to me but for the batches from 2023 have a more comprehensive and understanding course structure. The curriculum explains about the industry which can be applied to any of the chemical engineering plants. More industrial visits and internships provided would make a more industrial focused training in the campus itself.

Internships Opportunities

2

The college provides internships from 3rd years. Most of them are tech internships along with that core companies also provide internships over the course of 3 months to 6 months. Along with that the faculties also encourage off campus internships and supports us by helping in projects and stuff.

Placement Experience

4

College placements are really good here. In the course I am studying they provide internships at the 3rd year and placements are the 4th year. We are eligible for both the coding and core jobs along with management jobs etc. The major companies visiting are Oracle, BPCL, Exxon mobiles, Cognizant etc. In circuit branches like CSE, EC etc 100 percent placement rate is there whereas in Core branches the placement rate is 90 to 95 percent of the students applied . After the degree my plan is to get a placement through the campus placement system itself.

Fees and Financial Aid

The tuition fees in the campus is based on the income of the student . There are few waivers for students who have less income or for reserved categories. I would say the hostel fee is a bit more as they are charging establishment charges to fund the newly built hostels. Egrantz and the Post metric scholarship are the two major scholarships available. Other than that the institution encourages to apply for more private scholarships through buddy 4 study portal.

Campus Life

5

The campus Life In NIT Calicut is vibrant. With a campus that highlights the beauty of the nature it is a thrill everyday to live. The sports and clubs that this campus offers is entertaining. There are inter NIT Competitions for all the sports like football, cricket , handball etc. There are a wide variety of cultural and industrial clubs in the campus which offers a holistic development for students. Ragam and Tathva are two student run events in the campus which offers a high chance for students to show their management and event management skills.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

There are many hostels in the campus along with a mega hostel for boys and mega hostel for girls. There are 4 share rooms for first years and 2 share rooms for second and third years and single room for 4th years. Since this is a residential campus all the students here get accomodation. The mess in the campus is really good providing options for veg and non veg students. There is a highly decorated menu and a choice of food offerings in each of the mess. Every hostel contains at least one mess. The rooms in the hostels are decent and is highly clean.

Admission

Admission to the college is through an all india based entrance exam called joint entrance examination(JEE). After the exam the courses are allotted based on the cutoff and the percentile of the students through JOSAA portal. In addition to that if there are excess seats left spot admission also takes place. Reservation plays an important role in admission. A student can get into the institution with less marks through the reservation. The JEE exams takes place 2 times in a year and the best of the two sessions is taken into account for the admission process.

Faculty

4

Faculties are highly professional and very experienced. Faculties involve the students in their projects and helps us learn more than just the syllabus. There are faculty advisors for each class who make communication to faculties smooth. Faculty members are really approachable and they try to solve our problems and help us every chance they get.

Placement Experience:

The placement here is top notch. This year in my campus the highest CTC offered was 56.5lpa by PALOALTO. Placements process is centralised at coimbatore though. Students are eligible for campus placements from third year or s5. Average package in computing department ranges from 10-12lpa. My plans after degree is to pursue MS: opportunities of which are provided by the college itself. In computing department almost 90% of the students have been placed according to the seniors I talked to. However it is lower in other streams.

Civil engineering is a course with least placement in every engineering colleges. Students are placed during their fourth year in college. Sobha Constructions Ltd is one of the main companies that visits college. 200000rupees package is the average package offered. Les than 25 percent civil engineers get placed. I plan to prepare for GATE exam and pursue more in this course.
