Course Curriculum Overview

4

Well, placement wise since past 3 years the I.T. batch had got the highest packages. Apart from that I.T. doesn't just mainly focuses of coding but also what goes around it. The hardware, software etc. and many more. It also includes the marketing aspect of it also. In today's world companies just don't want pure coding but also the overall package. So I definitely think that I.T. provides that overall comprehensiveness along with coding and everything. While commending the good aspects I would also like to point out that if the teachers can be a bit more thorough with the topics and not brush it off quickly just to finish the syllabus would be nice.

Internships Opportunities

4

Well internships are available after the completion of 5th semester in our college. Well I don't know much about internships as I have only completed my 1st year here. But the professors help you out. Real life projects that will actually help build your resume are more focussed on.

Placement Experience

3

The placements are decent. The highest package for B.Tech CSE was 22 lpa (all candidates) and 40 lpa (reserved for women) . Apart from that average package is 5.5 lpa and median is 3.5 lpa. Students are eligible for campus placements from 7th semester. Many renowned companies come in our campus like TCS, PWC, Cognizant, Capgemini. Last year Oracle made an offer of 18 lpa to many of our seniors. Most of the students getting placed have a cgpa of 8.7 and above. Apart from that many students have backup plans and also go for off campus placements. I will personally also try to grab an off campus placement .

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee for our semester is 85000 and 160000 per year. Some hikes have been there. Around 4 years ago the fees for 4 year B.Tech course was 100000 per year. On admission they will take 1,00,000 (admission fees) and 5000/- for registration. Ftom then onwards per semester it will be 85000/- (given the fact they do not increase the fees). Then you have to buy the unifrom which will be around 6500/- and books which will be 8000/-. Now let me tell you, it was the biggest scam that they did. 8000/- for books when you won't even open the books for the whole year and the fact that every book is already in the library. So if possible just don't buy the books. No such scholarship is given as far as I know but financial aid is definitely given. If a specific criteria is met your entire semester fees is also paid by the college. But I don't quite know the criteria. Sorry for that.

Campus Life

2.5

If you expect to join IEM for campus life, I am sorry to burst your bubble but that is the one major disadvantage of IEM. The campus is almost negligible. There is one basketball court and a volleyball court. And an indoor sports are with 4 to 5 table tennis areas, few carrom boards, a small gym (apparently only for women) but never have i even seen one female come up and use that. There is one foosball table and 3 very small minigolfs course. Any major sports tournamnet like football, cricket, badminton, kabaddi etc. are basically done in other grounds mainly under Rotary Club, Kolkata. However the library is very nice. Fully Air-Conditioned, Desktop PCs with headsets attached and also internet avaiable. Campus does have wifi acces but not every place has that strong network you want. Yes classrooms do have smart boards. Clubs like photography club, debate club, dancing and cultural clubs are present but you need to scout a bit for them.

Hostel Facilities

2

I opted for hostel. I will straight up say, since there is no campus so the hostel is nothing but a medium sized apartment. And if you can see a PG paying guest), go there. Do not opt for hostel. They will take your hard earned money for a whole year so you are bound to stay there. And the hostel is full of restrictions and its connectivity to the main market place and other areas is also very diificult. Meal quality is okayish, nothing great to expect. You would get the normal Daal, Roti, Sabzi, puri, paratha at times. Chowmein slathering in oil, maybe poha a day, idli etc. The two areas where the PG s are Nayapatti and Mahishbatan. Out of the two I would say go for NAyapatti. It has good environment. All the necessary items, fast food chains, places to chill a bit with your friends etc. are also present and IN PGs there is no restriction. You can roam around freely till 11pm unlike in Hostel where the gates are cosed by 7:30 pm. Unbelieavable !

Admission

The admission of our college is from 3 ways. First, through their own exam IEM-JEE, second through WBJEE and third through management quota. Now i got dmission through WBJEE and the cutt off for general male was under 6000 AIR in wbjee for I.T. Mind it this was in my second round of counselling. So the cutt off maybe a bit higher in the 1st round of counselling. Apart from the admission process is pretty much smooth without any hassles. I am general category so no reservation benefits. The Wbjee level is almost at par with jee but they do focus a bit more on maths. As far as IEM-JEE what I have heard from my friends is that it is easier than wbjee.

Faculty

3.5

So the faculty to student ratio is 1:50. In terms of providng assistance most of the faculty members are extremely patient and helpful. They will provide assistance in whatever form you need but ofcourse there are some professors whom you do not want to get on the bad side of. So best is that to be a little patient with them only. Apart from that every single professor is well versed with their areas and topics. They use various methods of teaching including technology like Video lectures, Google forms, tquizzes and assignmnets. So doing them diligently will never make you lose touch of your subject. Many professors have completed their masters as well as Ph.Ds and many are currently pursuing their Ph.Ds . The teachers are very approachable. They will even helps you after college hours. The class mentors will helps you in every possible way apart from your regular studies also. However as I said some of the professors may come off as a bit rude and negligent but do not worry about them

Despite the low fee structure, my college provides a good placements. Almost every student of CSE Dept who sit for placement, gets the placement between 4lpa - 6lpa. Last year the highest package was ?12 lpa. ECE department has the lowest percentage of placements. And other engineering departments have between 60-70% placement. All the mentioned above is the description of in campus placement. Not many students of my college opt for out campus. But if they do, they get good placements as per the reports. In 2021 a student secured the job in Microsoft, with the placement of ?45 lpa (out campus).
