Remarks

As an NIT, Our college is good in all ways. Maybe the New NITs have a better infrastructure. In terms of management also, it's not bad.

Entrance Preview

As I got an open-category rank in JEE-MAIN around 5400, having no other reservations I had this college as one of my two or three top choices in 2016. Because our college was ranked the 5th among the 31 NITs(as per 2016 data provided by MHRD)present in India. Moreover, I prefer south India due to its topography and weather conditions.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

From my point of view, the course curriculum is common in an engineering college. The first year will be common for all the branches and will be basics of all the departments. The course curriculum here is designed in a student-friendly manner in order to offer the student a less burden and stress-free education. As a b.tech student here, I don't know much about the focus on research but its almost all the electives required for placements. And we have plenty of global electives too. MTDS, VLSI, Embedded systems, Digital Image Processing are some of the electives for ECE students.

Internships Opportunities

Yes, a lot of companies visit the college during both winter and monsoon semesters to recruit 3rd-year BTech students for internships. They offer a stipend not less than 15000/-(as per my knowledge). Since the internships are offered on interview basis around 100 students get selected every year. But the number from the computer science department would be higher among all the other departments.

Placement Experience

4.5

Our NIT possesses a good record of placements. The Computer science Department even got 100% placements for a few years. Anyways Cse department placements don't go beyond 90%. Coming to electronics and communication department placements it was not less than 90% in the last three years. The average salary packages are also growing from year to year it was about 8L per annum in ECE and 10L per annum in CSE now. The tech giants like Amazon, Microsoft, etc. Visit every year. About 170 companies visit the campus every year. In ECE the highest package offered was 22L, while the least was 5L per annum. While the CSE department got the highest package of 40L(offered by Adobe systems incorporated.)and while the least package was about 4.5Lakhs per annum. Other departments also had good placement record but not better than CSE and ECE departments

College Events

4

Our college holds two fests every year. one of them is a Technical fest called 'tathva' happens in monsoon semester. And the other is a Cultural fest 'Ragam' happens in the winter semester. Tathva is known as one of the biggest technical fests of south India with an average footfall of 40,000 every year. While Ragam is popularly known as the topmost cultural fest of India. It has an average footfall of 70,000 every year from all the parts of Kerala and other states. Choreo-nites and Fashion show are highlights of Ragam whereas workshops and lectures are highlights of tathva.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is decided by the central government for all the NITs and IITs. As per the revised fee structure, the fee payment is decided through the annual income of the students. The students with income less than 1 lakh get a total academic fee concession. While those with income between 1 and 5 lakhs get a fee concession of 2/3 rds the total fee.while those with income greater than 5Lakhs has to pay a total academic fee of 1.5 lakhs per annum. While the students with category reservations could apply for scholarships.

Fees and Financial Aid

As per my knowledge, our college doesn't offer any scholarships directly excluding fee concessions. But our college being possessing National standards, where students can apply for a number of scholarships like Samsung star scholarship, FFE scholarship etc.(which are not applicable to students for state-level colleges).

Campus Life

3.5

The campus life here is awesome due to its topology and infrastructure and its nearness to many hill stations. The men to women ratio are not so typical but as usual. It's about 55:45. There a number of cultural and technical clubs in the college like ISTE, DND, and ICA etc. There are associations for every department and educational groups like Robotics Interest Group (RIG) and IEEE etc.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

There are a total of 9 hostels for men and 3 hostels for women.out of them, one is Mega boys hostel and a Mega Ladies Hostel. The hostels are a bit old-fashioned in look but the maintenance was too good with all the required facilities. 1st-year students are allowed four sharing rooms while the 2nd and 3rd-year students are given 2 or 4 sharing rooms. Fourth-year students are allowed in single-member rooms depending on the availability of Hostels. Each and every hostel constitute a mess and students can opt to eat in any of the mess available every month. They serve all the variety of foods like south- Indian, north-Indian and Kerala style and vegetarian separately.

Alumni/Alumna

There was always been a connection between our seniors and alumni because our faculties guide us in such ways. They've always guided us in terms of our career and placement preparation.

Exam Structure

The Exams are not too easy to get rid of them. Each semester consists of two interim tests and one final end semester exam. They come once a month since each semester is about 4 months.NITC has one of the toughest academic curriculum and schedule. The labs are also good, with decent faculties, they don't provide a hectic schedule.

Admission

Here, the admission process depends on the marks and the JEE-MAIN rank obtained. As I got an open-category rank around 5400 with marks 194/360. The admission procedure is completely governed by JoSAA during our time. The counseling goes on in 5 or 6 rounds. Finally, you will be allocated a seat in one of the colleges in your preference order submitted to JOSAA during counseling. It will be based on the availability of the seats in that particular college. The preference order should be submitted on your choice based on NIT rankings of that year.

Faculty

4.5

When I've joined this college, our branch was running short of faculty members. But this year about 10 permanent lecturers has recruited. But the faculty were student friendly and available all the time during the college hours to get the doubts of students cleared. The student to faculty ratio is also not bad. The qualifications of faculties are next level as they are building blocks of prestigious institutions like NITs.

Campus placements are highly volatile taking the stats from over the past three years there has been an up trend as well a down trend, I hope I will get placed through on campus interviews, the highest package of this year was for two graduates who got into IBM with 22 lakhs per aanum, there are few who didn't get into any of the companies while there were others who got int Amazon and other reputated companies, if I do not get into a reputed company through my college on campus placements the. I'll be aiming for higher educations most probably
