Course Curriculum Overview
Curriculum is an area where the course lets us down. There are several aspects where the curriculum feels weak. There should be more provision for hands on experience. Theory classes should be lesser in the last years of the course. Also the records feel like a useless tool to waste our time. Logbooks make better sense. Or so I feel.
Fees and Financial Aid
The total fees for the course amounts to about 26500. This inclydes the service charges, miscellaneous fees, van fees etc. Hostel fees are an extra of about 4-5k per year. Mess feesnamount an additional of 3-4k per month. Overall it is one of the most affordable government courses available in the country. Scholarships like MOMA, Egrants are availed by selected sections of society based on their livelihood and financial capacity.
Campus Life
All major Kerala and Indian festivals are celebrated in the campus - Onam, Christmas, Eid, Holi etc. Other socially relevant celebrations are also included - Pride month, Anti drugs campaign, Cleaning drives etc. Yearly fests include the interbatch sports and arts fests - Talentia. Inter college fests are also conducted. Intermedicos, Zonals and Interzonals are inter-college events held annually in any one of the colleges in Kerala. Classrooms are neat and airy with good facilities and infrastructure..coming with latest projector facilities for virtual learning. Libraries have all the newly released as well as classic Medical texts. Total seating capacity amounts to about 60 seats in AC room and about 100 seats in non ac reading rooms. Student groups are also popular - music club, dance club, movie club, academic club, social club etc
Hostel Facilities
Hostel is the one aspect where improvement is very very necessary in this college. There is enough rooms to accomodate 5 batches. But the quality is very poor. Most of the rooms in the top floor have leaking ceilings. Fungus grows on the walls of such rooms causing breathing problems. The hostel premises are always plagued by dogs and rats. There are very few usable washrooms. Most of them have broken taps, showers, etc lighting is also poor. But the only good part is the cost - 4k per year. But still a hostel should be inhabitable. The one plus point is the food - good wuality food including veg and non veg items are available in ample quantity
Admission
Eligibility to the course is the NTA NEET examination, where a rank of 1300 in kerala or upto about 9000 in All India could get an admission to this college. Last rank details are available in the internet. Reservations benefits are available in the NEET examination. Application forms and details are available in the NTA official website. Difficulty level of the entrance examination has been a controversy in recent years due to increasing number of people scoring high marks.
Faculty
All faculty members have the best designations. Most of them have an MD in their respective specialisations. Classes are not generally missed and therr is more than enough faculty members for the conduction of regular classes. Almost all faculty members are very approachable and help us and clarify all our doubts.
