Course Curriculum Overview

4

It's always relevant to the content being taught by the teachers. They always use application based questions to prepare us for a real life situation as well. First aid training was also completed. Some of the teachers are very interactive while some not. Short exams are conducted on a weekly basis while internal exams are conducted every 2/3 months. Not that difficult but it isn't that easy either. Very strict checking, nothing is liberal.

Fees and Financial Aid

Normal tuition fee alone is 41k/year. Admission and registration fees will amount to less than 2k. For the SC/ST category, it's around 35 or less. E-grantz upto to 1 lakh is available for those in need of financial aid.

Campus Life

5

Overall, campus life is good. There are annual festivals and events going on almost every 2-3 weeks. Our sports are also at a high level and is being religiously followed here. We have a very good music section, very good dancers and actors as well. We take part in every event organised by both KUHS (c-zone, interzone) as well as separate events by colleges like Vertigo, a sports event conducted by our own college. We have a Student Union which is entirely student run, and they have a significant impact. Sports wise, our college offers football, cricket (with our very own Oval), basketball, badminton, kho-kho, table tennis, athletics. All excellent facilities as well. Our college also has a gym where all students are free to join. College library is vast and expansive. To the already present medical journals and textbooks, there are bigger and more vast selection of newer journals and biographies available in the library. It is always a quite environment and is also the go to place for most of the students to study in. We have a separate reading room where students also come and study. They're both always open from 9AM till 10PM.

Admission

Thrissur is where I have my home so my first preference was always Thrissur. The other colleges I looked at we're Kozhikode Medical College, TDMC Allapuzha, Madras Medical College. These are all good colleges but ultimately too far from my home. Admission process through TMC is via NEET. General category in 2023 got in through cut off marks of 630-640. SC/ST got in through around 540. PwD got in around 250. Overall admission experience was good, the staff were friendly and willing to help us through the process.

Faculty

4

Along with the 5 or 6 professors per faculty, there are also around 6 or 7 PGs who also assist the professors. Faculty-student relationship here is good and very strong. All teachers are helpful and willing to help. In particular, I liked the Biochemistry department the most. It was the reason I liked Biochemistry from the start, it became an easy subject to learn thanks to their professors. The Anatomy department is also extremely helpful and supportive, and is willing to help you in anything provided that you ask them. Approaching them might be a bit tough as they're also scary in classes, but when you talk to them, you'll find out that they are some of the most supportive people in the college. Physiology department was okayish, not that great but not that good either. Nothing too notable. Exams here are as per curriculum and is never too tough. Only around 5 6 students have failed the internals on an average.

Night Life

4

College gym is present. It's always open from 6AM till 11PM. There are early goers who go at 6 in the morning and there are people who wants to work out at 6 in the evening. We have multiple cafeterias, whether be it in the college or the hospital. Food and drinks are always good there. We have a hangout spot called the Triangle. It is made for the students, it has a beautiful arrangement. The walls there are painted by our own batchmates and the benches are all donated by our senior batches. Around the college (outside the campus), there are multiple restaurants where people love to go to. There is also a Dam that is around 6km from the college. Campus is always open 24/7. Hostel timings are specific, 1st years aren't allowed to go out of the campus at 12am as that is the closing time. Within the campus, it is safe at night, but have to be very aware of snakes, scorpions etc. Outside the campus it's not as safe to walk alone, always better to walk in groups.

The course is a bit tough rather than other courses (professional courses) MBBS is a 4 year course with 1 year compulsory internship dealing with a total of 13-4 subject over the 4 years The curriculum prepares us for the real world experiecne but more often the clinical subjects aim in patuent student interaction that overall help in the achievemnt of professionalism The frequency if exams are very high as there needs to be regular revision of subjects in order to prepare for the finals and perfect in all clinical theory and oractical aspects

Reviewed on Nov 30, 2024(Enrolled 2021)

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is of high relevance as it ensures that the student learns everything he need to learn in an mbbs life to become a good doctor. The curriculum we are now following is decided by the National Medical Council (NMC) of India and is CBME curriculum. The curriculum include many Self directed learning methods and small group discussions etc which makes the learning interesting and easy. The curriculum definitely prepares the students to become a good doctor in future. Some minute improvements are still required like no need of these many SGDs for community medicine and forensic. It'll be better to include more field activities in community medicine . The frequency and timing of exams are sometimes a burden for the students as the exams are so close and they are not getting enough time to improve themselves which may affect their confidence. Sometimes the exams are scheduled in between some meets conducted by university which makes it difficult for the students to participate.
