What Students Say
Likes
- Very low cost of education. For 4 years of engineering the college charges only 10000 rupees in total (2.5k per year) [except IT]
- The students have significant power in this university. The students decide the schedule of the semester exam as per their needs.
- Very few teachers force you to maintain attendance. There is no rule like 75% attendance yet. So we can focus on our own goals. We can skip any lecture and do sports or coding or anything else.
Dislikes
- The playground of the jadavpur campus is not maintained at all. Some maintenance would help us to play well.
- The students are 90% from bengal. It does not provides diversity and exposure as much as national colleges do.
- During fests, life of a non-smoker is unbearable. You can not even enjoy the show because of the smoke and smell.
Course Curriculum Overview
The emphasis of coding as well as the core subjects in the course is what attracts me. I can go into hardware as well as software as per my interest as i am getting exposed to both. Curriculum is well designed for current world. We learn from basics to pretty much modern concepts here. But the lab works need improvement. The frequency and difficulty of the exams are standard and well designed.
Internships Opportunities
In 2nd year we can apply for summer internship. In 3rd year college provides opportunity for internship for 2 months preferably (6 months for special cases). A pretty common name for software internship is Amazon here. I don't know about the stipend and all yet as i am in first year now.
Placement Experience
Last of 3rd year students start to get placed. Many companies like Amazon, Deloitte visits the campus. No. Of offers made so far is 90. I don't know about the highest and lowest yet, this year's placement season is going on. 100% of eligible students get placed. No mass recruited placements. I am planning to get a job after the degree.
Fees and Financial Aid
The total fee for 4 year is 10k rupees only. Many students get svmcm, reliance and other scholarships. University provides financial aids and hostelship for financially backward students. There are many clubs, you can be employed by them if you wish.
Campus Life
We get UTurn(freshmen fest) in November, srijan(tech fest) in march, sanskriti(cultural fest) in april. Library(both the physical and digital) is pretty well packed. The books and journals are accessible easily. Books are lended for 15 days to a student. He/she can renew it after the 15 days. Classrooms are decent. But need improvement in quality of ac in some room. And need ac in the non ac rooms. Annual sports event are arranged twice UTurn in october for freshmen and Arena in April for inter-department students in the university. Clubs are pretty well managed by the students. We can learn many new things and make friends through them. I personally am a member of photography club and it's the oldest student run photography club in Asia. It's a very colourful and thriving community there.
Admission
Eleigibility of the course, application form, fees, dates everything is mentioned on the official website of wbjee which is wbjeeb.nic.in. The entrance exam is doable if you are an aspirant of jee mains. The exam is conducted once a year. The admission process of jadavpur university starts very late, so we have to finish the first academic year in a rush. The process could be done fast.
Faculty
Faculty members are pretty well qualified. Some of them even are from top 10% researchers in the world. Prof. Sayan Chatterjee and Prof. Amitava Gupta have contributed to the moon landing of ISRO chandrayaan-3. Their teaching methods are very good. If you are from bengal and you don't understand a topic, they teach you that topic in bengali also. We can approach them any time in campus.
