Course Curriculum Overview

4

I choose this course as this is a demanding course and it is of my intrest. The curriculum is good, there is also lab sessions in which we get to know real world applications. The area of improvement can be they should teach us in more practical way, and moreover the syllabus is more theoratical and covers less our core syllabus. There are msts, ests, quizs and lab evals. The written paper is 2 times a semester along with lab evals. The difficulty of the exams are difficult.

Internships Opportunities

2

Many companies come here for the internship. This includes barclays, jpmorgan, accenture, cisco and many more. But they take very less students. There is a capstone project which come in 6th sem and will continue for 1 year. Everyone has to don it in a team of 4-5 students.

Placement Experience

4.5

The campus placements starts from the 7th semester. The companies include microsoft, arcesium, barclays, apple, google, jp morgan, futurefirst, cisco, and many more. The highest package is around 54lakhs and the average package is around 10lakhs.Precentage of the students placed on the campus is around 60-70%.My plan after getting the degree is getting a good job.

Fees and Financial Aid

The tution fees inculding other charges including medical fees, devolpment fees is 250000 per sem. It increases 10% every semester. The complete cost of the education for 4 years will be approx 25lakhs.There is scholarship, basis on the cgpa of the student, the family income and for the single girl child. The amount of the scholarship depends on the cgpa. It varies from 1lakhs to 3 lakhs.

Campus Life

4.5

There are many events organised in our capmus. The main event of thapar includes Saturnalia, Thapar food fest, Many artists are invited. The events are held almost every month. There is very huge library, it has many books and journals. You can find any books from the course related to the self devolpment to soft skills etc. Each classroom has projectors for the demonstrations and is well equipped. There is good scope for sports in thapar. There is an event specifically for the sports in which many colleges particiapte. There are many clubs, groups and socities. They organise many events according to their prespective.

Hostel Facilities

4

The room includes 2 single bed, 2 chairs, 2 study tables with table lamp, ac and a shoe rack. The room is good with balcony. The meal is good in camparison to the other college hostels but some improvemets can be made. The registrations process includes filling a form and giving the prefernce of the hostel. Then hostel is alotted according to it. The hostel rent for 1 month cost around 60k. The near localty for the pg is good.

Admission

The admission process strarts with the online application form that is avaliable on the the thapar website. You have to fill the form and pay 1500 as the application form fees. Then you will be allocated the seat according to your 12th PCM grades and jee precentile. There is 50-50% seats for both board and jee basis and also there is 50-50% for punjab and outside punjab. The cut off for punjab for cse students is 96% in 12th and for outside punjab it is 97%.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.
