Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

Merchant Navy is my dream job, as we travell all around the globe it's not a 9-5 job, we face different types of conflicts off shore, earn in dollars. I choose B.Sc (NS) because I wanted to be perfect in my career as this course is of 3 years. There is another way of becoming a Deck Cadet n it is DNS it's a 16 months course. Speaking of this career, Good things, This field teaches you the proper definition of discipline, how to love yourself as you work all alone, you face a lot of challenges also you earn in dollars, work with foreign officers onboard, Time management, Proper care if you are a Girl, etc. Bad things, You stay away from your family for an entire year/6 months, suffer a lot of mental breakdown, low network, you'll be paid only when you're onboard, etc. The teaching methods are very good as the faculties themselves are an officers so what ever they teach it directly comes from their experiences. Exams are in the mid of difficult and easy but hectic schedule.

Placement Experience

4.5

Top companies like Mersk, V-ships, Wallem, Thome, MSC, MSI, etc. are collaborated with AMET University. Our University has the best placement record of 80% each year. If you study hard and get above 9 CGPA there is a 90% of chance of your placement from Cllg itself. In any case if you don't get placed you can fill the forms and get placed. The pakage starts from 3LPA to 7LPA depending upon the company and type of ship alloted to you. As I'm placed so after getting the degree I'll join my company after our waiting period n start earning.

Fees and Financial Aid

For B.Sc (NS) the fee structure is 3,55,000/- yr, where accomodation, food, uniform, tuition fees, training fee, insurance and medical facilities included. Extra charges are books fees i.e. approx 16,000. Full course fee is of 1,065,000/- for 3 years. DG shipping provides a scholarship of rs 1Lakh for girl cadets per year, eligible only for 0 nos of arriers (failed sub). AMET University gives 97% of assured placement for girl cadets and 60% for boy cadets.

Campus Life

2.5

We have an event named as Navinautics held in the month of end Feb for 3 days. There are 2 libraries in our campus. Books are available inside the campus itself but they are a little costly. We have a lot of curricular activities and clubs like Spots :- outdoor - volleyball, football, badminton basketball Indoor - chess, table tennis and Gym. Clubs like:- cultural club, Toast Masters, Leo club, tutors club, etc. we also have National Cadet Corps (NCC). As I mentioned earlier we have a hectic schedule throughout the day. So there is no extra me time:)

Hostel Facilities

2

One room consists of 2,3 or 4 cadets allotted with 2 bunk beds, 2 sealing fans, 2 table fans, 2 double door cupboards one compartment each, 1 mirror, 4 mattress, 4 pillows, 1 mirror, common washrooms and bathing accessories accordingly. Rooms are quite suffocating as no sufficient ventilation of air. Tbh the food served is not that good but they provide roti, dal, chawal, sabzi, fruit, rassam, sambar, etc. For entry and exit we have a log book where you have to renter every details compulsory. 21hrs - 22hrs we have compulsory study hours in our hostels without any gadgets. For washing clothes 3 stone statues are provided in common washroom. No food iteams are allowed inside the hostel (but we sneak in) no electronic gadgets are allowed. Weekly inspection takes place if found any inappropriate items that will be seized.

Admission

Firstly for Merchant Navy you have to give the entrance exam known as IMU CET and the eligibility for my Cllg is that you should get a rank in the list. I found AMET University myself with the help of Google. Eligibility for my Cllg :- Minimum 60% in English in std 10th & 12th. PCM above 70% Health checkup from DGS Approved hospitals. For the application form you can visit their online site and fill the form accordingly our Cllg has a lot types of course such as BE (Marine Engineering), Diploma in Nautical Science, B.Sc (Nautical Science), ADNS, etc. The fees for the reservation is 25000/- also they don't include fees for books in your yearly fees so that costs you aprox 16000/-. Every course has different times and dates for the admission according to the duration of the course. For B.Sc (NS) and BE(ME) the admission process starts from the month of mid April. In B.Sc (NS) we have 2 semesters per year and the duration of the course is of 3 yrs so in total there will be 6 semisters.

Other Applied Colleges

Tolani Maritime Institute - [TMI] | Diploma in Nautical Science

They offered me for engine side but I wanted deck side also till then I got admission in AMET University.

Placement Experience:

My course is a five year course, so it had around 9 to 10 semesters as the first year had no semester. It was a non-semester. So first year had only one semester exam followed by all the other semesters other years at two semesters. From fifth year, students are eligible for campus placements During Covid time, our campus, Placement happened so companies visited are Shlok labs, some assignment writing company which is already closed now and some other start-ups which are not very famous and offer made us around 10,000 per month Highest package received is around 3.5,00,000 per year percentage of students getting Placement is very less only 30 to 40 percentage not even that much. I can say if we apply any companies directly, we will be placed but not through college and especially this course, but other courses are having very good opportunities. As this course recruiters will say it is over qualified.
