NIT Jamshedpur College Review by Sougandha Chatterjee

Ever since I started my JEE preparation, I wanted to study mechanical engineering. I choose this course in NIT Jamshedpur because of it's consistent placement records. Faculty-Student ratio has improved significantly since I joined the college. Faculties are all alummi of the top IITs of the country. Professors from our department has been featured in the list of Top 2% Scientists Worldwide 2023 by Stanford University. Professors are extremely helpful and provide guidance whenever we need.

Companies like Tata Steel, Reliance, Flipkart, Amazon, Deloitte, Bny Mellon, ICICI, HSBC, Tata motors etc companies offer summer internships and six months internships to 3rd year and 4th year students respectively.

Campus placements occur in 4th year and summer internships are offered in 3rd year. College has a consistent record of 99+% placement. In mechanical department, the placement record in 2022-23 session was 100%. In the ongoing year even though recession is present, the 75% students have already been placed by December. More to come. Many 3rd years have been offered summer internships as well.

Fee payment occurs prior to every semester. For each semester; Institute fee is around 75000, hostel fee 15000, mess fee 17000. Provision for fee remission is available for eligibile candidates. 3rd year students are offered Summer internship opportunities by visiting companies, many of them also provide pre-placement offers. In 4th year companies offer Full-time Employment offers as well as 6 months internships.

Many fest occur throughout the year. OJASS -Annual Techno-Management fest of NIT Jamshedpur, CulFest -Annual Cultural fest of NIT Jamshedpur, URJA -Annual Sports Meet of NIT Jamshedpur. Cognitio is the Branch fest of Mechanical Engineering department, organised by Mechanical Engineering Society. Other Prominent Clubs are E-Cell NIT Jamshedpur, Industrial and Alumni Relation. Technical Clubs include: Vehicle Modelling and Fabrication: Team DAKSH, Drift Racing Team, Team Revanta, Team RAYs Aeromodeling Club: Team Phoenix Coding, Iot, Robotics, Web-Dev, AI-ML -Team PCON Team Innoreva Good Central Library facilities are available. BTech Classes are mostly held in the New Academic Building. All classroom have facilities like smart board and centralised air-conditioning, each of them having capacity to accommodate about 120 students.

Mess facilities are satisfactory. Better than mess facilities known to be provided in other NITs. But still there is scope for improvement. Hostel facilities are satisfactory. Cleaning of corridors, bathrooms and toilets is almost regular if not daily. There is scope for improvement. The security system is well maintained. The In-time for girls is 9:00 pm.

Using JEE main Rank through JOSAA or CSAB counselling. Eligibility criteria is same as that for JEE main examination. Closing rank for mechanical engineering department was about 50000 for general female candidates in 2021.
