Likes
- Support for literary arts : Surprisingly, GC college supports avid writers and hence sometimes calls on avid Hindi writers of Silchar for short sessions.
Dislikes
- Bad infrastructure : The infrastructure of this college is not that great comparing to other colleges around the city due to its open campus nature.
- Outdated books in library : The library books are not at all up-to-date as all the Hindi books which are there dates back to 2000s.
- Bad environment : GC college does not have a proper study environment as distractions around the college exists being in a noisy area.
Course Curriculum Overview
I had chosen Hindi Hons. course due to my keen interest in Hindi as a language. I aspire to be a writer in hindi domain as I had keen interest in writing poems since 7th class. I had taken arts for the very same reason. The Hindi department faculty of GC college is really good and the clarity and explaination of the teachers is very satisfactory in my opinion. The ratio is faculty:student ratio is 1:30 . All faculties are PhD holders in Hindi Domain. The term exams were held timely by the college and to pass the exams, one needs to have clear concept of the subjects taught.
Fees and Financial Aid
There is no fee hike policy which could be noticed in the college. The cost to study for 4 years to complete the BA Hindi Hons degree for General students is Rs. 13075 per year so the total amount to complete education under GC college for BA Hindi Hons degree is Rs 52300. There is no scholarship though whatsoever. There exists fee concessions for other category of students.
Campus Life
In terms of Social life, clubs and infrastructure, the college does not excel in it whatsoever. The infrastructure is modest and the annual fest "GC-Con" is held in the first quater of the session which has concerts which is good enough in nature. The sports culture in this college is good enough and this college has a sports playground and student atheletes spend most of their time playing Kabaddi and Basketball. Classrooms have projectors for smart classes and desk benches which are of good quality. The college does not have societies run by students, whatsoever.
Admission
For B.A (Hindi Hons.), the eligibility criteria for this course was having the subject Hindi in class 12th along with minimum 55% in 12th board examination. Though CUET was not used for admission entrance test, the college had done 2023's admission through 12th marks. The application form was available offline at GC college office and the same can also be found on GC college online admission portal. The admission is done through registration on Assam University as this college is affiliated with Assam University. The admission process was smooth as merit lists of admissions were announced timely by the college allowing smooth start of this session so personally I feel the admission process is par with the standards.
