Silchar Medical College Facilities

Hostel: It is having residential rooms with full accommodation of male and female students. It has a capacity of 450 boys and 270 girls’ students. It also has separate hostel facilities for Undergraduate and Postgraduate students.
Library: It has a diverse collection of reference books, magazines, journals, newspapers, various author books. The college has a central library of 1800 sq. ft. Ques. What are the float, freeze, and withdrawal options on NEET counseling form 2020?

Ans. If the candidate is satisfied with the allotted college in the form and does not want to be considered for any more rounds of counseling can use the Freeze option. This is also known as the Lock option. On the other hand, if the candidate is satisfied but also wants to be considered for other colleges and rounds, he can use the Float option. Great college for MBBS in Assam

Likes

Teachers are very supportive. Most of them teach very well and if you ask them for help, anyone would love to help you. They're very enthusiastic.
Lecture theater hall. Our lecture theater is well equipped with air conditioners, smart board and speakers. You can definitely enjoy your class.
The events. Many events takes place during the year. Starting from college fests, national days, festives like diwali, holi etc. takes place here all over the year.

Dislikes

Campus security is a bit less here. It hampers the girl's life mostly during the night. Lack of CCTV and security guards.
Infrastructure of hospital. The hospital is very old and need remodeling. Instruments are old, walls are stained, fans in ward are not working.
The main road outside the hospital is very congested. Though it's not the fault of hospital, rather the whole town of silchar is like this, but govt. should take measures to fix this.

What does student says about course

MBBS is a course of choice for many people in our country. This is one of the most relevant courses you'll ever get. The profession of doctor itself is a encouraging one. Here the teaching is pretty well. Teachers will keep telling you real life scenerios and how they differ from our books. You'll get a good experience in this college as the patient load in hospital is quite good. You'll get a good chance to be a good doctor in real world.

Internship opportunity provided by the college and stipend

Everyone have to take compulsory Internship after completion of MBBS course. Internship takes place in our hospital only. They offer around Rs. 35000 monthly. It comes from Govt. being a government medical college.

Yearly fees structure of the college

During my admission, the admission fee was Rs. 2300 along with Rs. 1000 as counselling charge (this is 1 time fee only). Yearly they charge Rs. 5000 for registration and Rs. 6700 (for non-hostellers) or Rs. 9700 (for hostellers) before the final prof examination. If you break down this 6700/9700 then Rs. 5000 is academic fee, Rs. 3000 is annual hostel fee (for hostellers), Rs. 1200 is tuition fee and rest is for library, lab & miscellaneous fees.

College events and various activities

Social life is just great at SMCH, just great. Lots of events throughout the year. Plasma during April and Plexus during October-November are the annual fests. Keeping them aside there'll be more cultural and social events throughout the year. Starting from Saraswati puja, Holi, Rabindra Jayanti, Sankardev tithi, Ganesh chaturthi and Diwali, many such events takes place throughout the year. Sport events are endless. Cricket, football, badminton, chess, ludo, volleyball, gyming and many more keeps happening. There are clubs run by students. Rotary and chess clubs are few to be named.

Hostel facilities provided by the college

Hostel facility is not so good. It is old and things are broken. You have to bring your own furnitures. Food is also not so good and poorly prepared. The food is better at girl's hostel as they often get monthly grand feasts. But still they get cockroaches in their meal sometimes. Fee is affordable as I mentioned earlier.

Student views on the faculty

Faculty to student ratio vary from dept to dept. In most of the dept there is 1 faculty for each 20-30 students. Faculties are very polite and approachable. They're always happy to help and teach you. They won't be mad at you for asking doubts and questions rather they'll be mad if u don't ask them anything. Also they're enthusiastic about extracurricular activities. They take part in college events like sports, music, dance, bands, comedy etc.

Why student choose the college

You've to clear NEET-UG to get into our college. SMCH is one of the top medical colleges in Assam. My first preference during counseling was SMCH but I got rejected in 1st counseling. But eventually got it in the 2nd counseling. I choose SMCH because it's nearest to my house and locality. As it is one of the oldest medical colleges in Assam so a well established teaching plan and methodology is present here. So it's better than most of the Medical colleges in Assam.

Nightlife and nearby places

There is gym, cafeteria and library in college. So you can visit them upto 8-9 pm. Girl's hostel in timing is 7-30pm but extended during the fests. No intime for boys hostel. You can hangout outside in the town where you'll get lots of restaurants and park. Campus is not usually considered safe for girls to roam around as there are many dark corners and it's open to all being a medical college so many outsiders roam around here. You should be careful.

Insight of Silchar medical college

Likes

I love the events and sports conducted by student and love that it relives stress that build up.
We have a good boys and girls ratio and in my class its almost 50\50.
I like that its is quite a compact campus with each years subjects placed quite near to each other.

Dislikes

Boys hostel is too far from the classes and no transportation from college is given
Proper seperation of campus and hospital is not there which endangers studens privacy

Admission:

I chose this college as it is close to my home and have my native language. Compared to other college i would say that this college is average. I couldn't get into other college i like as my mark was a bit less than cutoff. To get into any medical college one need to give NEET-UG exam and then can get admission based on their score.

Life at Silchar Medical College

Likes

Every year the college is bombarded with socio-cultural events that are organised by the students of this institution
The lecture theatre complexes are well equipped with air conditioners, smart-board and speakers.

Dislikes

The road from Physiology department towards the Anatomy department is muddy all the times. Even the short cut exit that proceeds towars the police station is covered with unnecessary bushes that needs to be cleared up.
Some of the desks and benches in LTCs are old and broken. This snatches the comfort of the students during lectures. The water supply in the basin of the washroom is not available everytime
The campus security is a bit taken for granted as there are no sufficient CCTV cameras, lights and security guards that can hamper the girls safety inside the campus during night specially

Admission:

I applied for all the government medical colleges present in my state including the college in my city. I kept SMCH as second choice because the food, language and culture of the place suits my interest. The admission process in the college was quite simple. One has to clear the admission cut off of NEETUG entrance provided he/she has completed 12th and then attend the counselling.

SMCH in brief

Likes

Very huge number of patients come from all over Barak valley.
Girl to Boy ratio is also good. It is around 1:1

Dislikes

The college is very dirty because of lack of cleaning.
The infrastructure is old since it is a very old college.

Admission:

Being a government medical college, it obviously offers education at almost no cost. The cutoffs are medium in Assam as it is a very old college. Almost all seats are filled up instantaneously so get your seat in 1st counselling itself.

Facilities: The teacher here are amazing and the campus is beautiful situated in the valley of Barak.

JiIt was based on neet-ug marks. One had to cross the cut off marks which vary every year. The application date was provided online.I belong to obc category. The exam center was in my city itself as I had selected it.The duration was 3 hours .the paper was medium level hard.I scored 518 and got selected.

Admission:

Eligibility of the course is passing of NEET Entrance exam. The application form is filled online in the official site of NTA, which deals with the exam. Application fees is nearly 1000-1800 on the basis of caste. Generally the exam is on May, and application form releases nearly 1 month prior to exam. Reservation is 85% for state students and rest for other state students. The exam is once a year and diffulty level is very high. Admission process should be more feasible.

A short review on my college, SMC

Admission:

To be eligible for appearing for the neet exam, one would have to have passed the 10th and 12th board exams with minimum requirements. There are age restrictions as well on the lower limit. The application process begins after the announcement of the dates. Specific documents have to be submitted. The application form can be found on the concerned website. There are reservations in placement for different colleges. One improvement I'd like to see would make it easier to change colleges later.

Silchar Medical College does not offer B.Sc. Nursing course to the students. The college offers MBBS only at the UG level.

Yes, you can apply after 12^th, you only need to have 50% in PCB. You need to appear for NEET exam followed by counselling to get admission.

NEET exam is scheduled for May 7^th 2023. Yes, SMC Silchar is a Government college. You need at least 650+ marks in NEET to get a seat.
