Silchar Medical College is located in the southern part of the state of Assam. It is affiliated to SS University of Health Science. The college offers MBBS, MS, MD and Diploma courses recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI). MS and MD programs are offered in 6and 12 disciplines respectively.

The total seats for MBBS are 100 while for MS and MD, the total intake of students is 74. MBBS is five and half year course which includes one year of internship. MS and MD are for three years and diploma is offered for two years.

Application forms are available on the college campus.
The minimum eligibility for MBBS is a 10+2 pass with at least 50% aggregate marks in PCB.
Admission is offered on the basis of the score of NEET exam.
For MS, MD and Diploma courses, an MBBS degree along with the internship of one-year is desired.
The final selection in these courses is done on the basis of marks in the qualifying examination.

Silchar Medical College MBBS Admission 2023

Silchar Medical college offers admission to MBBS program on the basis of performance in NEET. The minimum eligibility is a 10+2 pass in Science stream with at least 50% (40% for SC/ST/OBC) aggregate marks.

NEET is conducted by CBSE Board to provide admission in MBBS and BDS courses offered by Government and Private colleges located in all over India. The candidates can attempt for NEET only three times and upper age limit for applying for this examination is 25 years (30 years for SC/ST/OBC).

Insight of Silchar medical college

Admission:

I chose this college as it is close to my home and have my native language. Compared to other college i would say that this college is average. I couldn't get into other college i like as my mark was a bit less than cutoff. To get into any medical college one need to give NEET-UG exam and then can get admission based on their score.

Life at Silchar Medical College

Admission:

I applied for all the government medical colleges present in my state including the college in my city. I kept SMCH as second choice because the food, language and culture of the place suits my interest. The admission process in the college was quite simple. One has to clear the admission cut off of NEETUG entrance provided he/she has completed 12th and then attend the counselling.

You've to clear NEET-UG to get into our college. SMCH is one of the top medical colleges in Assam. My first preference during counseling was SMCH but I got rejected in 1st counseling. But eventually got it in the 2nd counseling. I choose SMCH because it's nearest to my house and locality. As it is one of the oldest medical colleges in Assam so a well established teaching plan and methodology is present here. So it's better than most of the Medical colleges in Assam.

SMCH in brief

Admission:

Being a government medical college, it obviously offers education at almost no cost. The cutoffs are medium in Assam as it is a very old college. Almost all seats are filled up instantaneously so get your seat in 1st counselling itself.

JiIt was based on neet-ug marks. One had to cross the cut off marks which vary every year. The application date was provided online.I belong to obc category. The exam center was in my city itself as I had selected it.The duration was 3 hours .the paper was medium level hard.I scored 518 and got selected.

Admission:

My name is Ribul Ahmed I appeared neet exam conducted by NTA I score 581 out of 720 and my collage cut was 576 for EWS category students and I belongs to EWS category so I was admitted in the collage Silchar medical college ,Silchar ,Assam .i found the application from collage it self there is a three internal exam and final 1 st professional examination we have in the 1 st year it is little bit difficult but not much as neet was all is good in the collage no difficulties

Honest Review of SMCH

Admission:

Eligibility of the course is passing of NEET Entrance exam. The application form is filled online in the official site of NTA, which deals with the exam. Application fees is nearly 1000-1800 on the basis of caste. Generally the exam is on May, and application form releases nearly 1 month prior to exam. Reservation is 85% for state students and rest for other state students. The exam is once a year and diffulty level is very high. Admission process should be more feasible.

Admission was through NEET exam. One must be having Physics Chemustry and Biology in class 12th.Application form was released in NTA website.All the document verification was done online plus offline.Cuttoff of my college was 570+ for UR.If it would be completly online it would have been great.

A short review on my college, SMC

Admission:

To be eligible for appearing for the neet exam, one would have to have passed the 10th and 12th board exams with minimum requirements. There are age restrictions as well on the lower limit. The application process begins after the announcement of the dates. Specific documents have to be submitted. The application form can be found on the concerned website. There are reservations in placement for different colleges. One improvement I'd like to see would make it easier to change colleges later.

I belong to Silchar and pursued my MBBS from NEIGRIHMS. This makes me qualified to talk about both. Here are some details on both these institutions-

NEIGRIHMS:

It is a central government institute with a state-of-the-art infrastructure. The MBBS faculty is well experienced and dedicated, though less in number.
After completing your UG from this institute, you’ll be well-equipped with knowledge.
Alumni from NEIGRIHMS go on to other prestigious institutions for their PGs. The hospital has a huge patient load, with cases coming in from all across the North East. So as a UG student, you’ll be at a surplus of cases.
The climate and people of Shillong are both really good. The college campus is beautiful. It is the cleanest of all medical colleges in India.

SMC:

SMC is an old institute located in Assam. It has a huge alumni network, having been an alma mater to numerous successful medicos.
But like other state government institutions, you’ll learn mostly from the PGs and your seniors. It has a lot more PG students than NEIGRIHMS where PG courses are at an infant stage. The seniors are friendly.
The faculty is less in number. The patient load is high, and residents have to work a lot. But it is one of the worst-maintained medical colleges in terms of cleanliness.

If you are a domicile of Assam, it is better to do your MBBS from SMC. After your graduation, go for rural posting. After all this, you’ll become eligible for state PG quota. NEIGRIHMS has a very high competition for PG seats, and getting in for a UR student is especially difficult.

Both are equally good colleges, and you should choose between them based on your own preferences.
