Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is very upto date in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness. The faculties often give us some insights into the field of biotechnology through their lectures and also by taking us to the nearby places of practice such as medical colleges and hospitals. Though the course is quite much relevant, the excursions should be quite more frequent as they help the students to grasp the feel of working in the field of biotech. The exams are abit too frequent. Usually the semester should last for about 6 months but our's ends after almost 3 months, this should be fixed.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees is 27000 rupees per year, for the completion of the whole course of biotechnology, it reaches to about 2.16 lakhs. Mine is quite higher i.e 34000 as i had taken zoology and botany as my DSM Subjects. An examination fee is also taken per semester which is usually of about a total of 685 rupees.
Campus Life
Speaking of myself, im not quite involved in the campus life, as i only come to attend my respective classes. But as much as the i know the campus life is quite vibrant compared to other colleges in our area. The are many clubs for the sports and other outside activities like ncc etc. An annual sports day is also held in out college where the teachers also play an active role in participation.
Hostel Facilities
The college hostel is quite of a better option compared to the pgs' and other hostels as it is a government hostel and services like water, electricity and other facilities are always available. The food is not that good but quite fulfilling as per the price. For the registration process, one must obtain the hostel form from the college website and speak with the hostel superintendent.
Admission
I choose this college over others mainly because of the availability of my prefered course as it is not usually available in most colleges. Also the college is very close to my hometown which makes it easy for me to travel. As for the college which i had applied for, it was too far from my town. Also the fees was quite higher compared to my present college, also it was a private college.
Faculty
There are about a total of 5 faculty members in our biotechnology department. All of them are very responsive and friendly with the students and help us with the practicals alot. Out of them Dr. Soumitra nath holds alot of likeness from us. He thoroughly exams each and every topic and also imparts us with some outside knowledge regarding the field of biotechnology which is not usually included within the course. Apart from that the exams take place quite frequently and are of moderate difficulty. Most of the students usually pass the exams.
Night Life
Nightlife is not much of a thing in our college, as it remains closed after about 4 pm. But the college gym is open in the evening for the students and staff. Also it doesnot charges any extra fees.Apart from that there is not much to be done in the night time
Other Applied Colleges
University of Science and Technology - [USTM] | Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] (Biotechnology)
