What Students Say
Likes
- Campus is really well maintained. The Bathrooms are cleaned in a regular basis.
- Availability of a lot of canteens for less crowding.
- Scholarships are pretty good and it's not very difficult to atleast get the MRD scholarship
Dislikes
- More amenities if possible like ACs in classrooms and more sports that can be played.
- The min 85% percentage attendance criteria is a little too much and since it's required in every subject, it is headache to maintain.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose BTECH CSE because I always loved to code from around 8th and I have loved being around computers. The course curriculum is created by PES management with the help of the faculty. It's an autonomous University so doesn't have to follow the UVC curriculum. The faculty: student ratio is probably 1:15 or 1:20. Some of the teachers have done their PHDs while others have only done either their Mtech or BTech. But I would honestly say don't go by their qualifications because it ultimately just depends on the teacher and how much they like teaching and their method of teaching. Some teachers don't have PhDs but they teach better than ones that do. One thing I love about PES is that they stick to their schedule unless it's impossible. All the exams were taken according to the schedule except once. It is relatively easy to pass. A lot of help is provided by the website where all the chapters' ppt is there and we can directly learn things from there.
Placement Experience
There are an insane amount of placements. Students are eligible for placements from their 6th sem. They could also go out by themselves and get placed earlier too. Companies like Amazon, Flipkart, Google, Meta, Appl, Mercedes Benz, Microsoft, JP Morgan Chase, eBay, Cisco, Siemens, Netflix, Facebook, etc. have hired students from PES. If you are a decent student, getting placed should be a walk in the park. Around 90% of the people I think get placed. The highest package gotten to date was for 1.45 Crore per annum. The average package last year was around 10 LPA. Over 100 companies come for hiring people from PES. A few people I have talked to also prefer to hire from PES than a few IITs. There are opportunities to take up Masters immediately after Btech but I think I would apply for a job and work on myself and take other courses online rather than pursuing Masters. If you are interested in internships abroad, that is also possible. An all-paid for an international internship.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees for PESSAT and JEE Mains students are 4.1L per year. The fee for KCET students is around 1L per year. The fee for management quota students is 10L. This is excluding the 10,000 that has to be paid additionally in the first year. There are a few scholarships available. The 2 major ones are MRD and CNR Rao. The MRD one is given to those who are in the top 20% based on SGPA every sem. They get back 20% of their tuition fees back per sem. As I am A PESSAT student, this comes up to around 70k per sem. The CNR Rao one is based on CGPA and is also given out every sem. This is for 25% of the tuition fees per sem. It is given to the top 5% of students. Overall you could save upto 40 or 50% respectively with MRD and CNR Rao scholarships. Additionally from second years, there are also opportunities for teaching assistantships, where you would be paid on an hourly basis and you get paid more if you can teach the higher years. I am not exactly sure of the amount that is given though.
Campus Life
Campus Life is ok. A lot of things in the EC Campus are still being built. There are multiple canteens, a good cricket ground, somewhat of a football ground, a basketball court, and a sports room with a multigym, TT tables, Chess, and Carroms. A new gym and badminton courts etc are still being built. There are a few events in the college like Maaya our Techno-Cultural Fest and other ones which were there in RR Campus. The RR Campus has a lot more events and clubs than the EC Campus because it is an older campus. The EC Campus is doing a great job bringing new clubs though. Sports is also ok, the EC and RR Campus students are just taken as PES students for competitions. The Classrooms have TVs so that the teacher can explain better. There is pretty good air ventilation too. They don't have ACs though. In the EC Campus, there is a 2-floor library, which is pretty good, I have not used it much though. There are over 100 clubs for students. Some of them are student-run like PESUIO.
Admission
The basic criteria are that you have an aggregate of 60% in Physics, Chem, and Math in 12th. On top of that, you would have to get the required rank in the entrance exams, be it JEE Mains, KCET, or PESSAT. The cutoff for KCET was around 1000 and 4000 for RR and EC Campus respectively. The cutoff for PESSAT was around 1200 and 3300. These cutoffs are according to the year that I entered the college. Everything related to admissions can be found on their official website pes.edu I would love to see a lower fee bracket in the PESSAT quota or JEE Mains quota. As of our year, KCET students pay fees of around 1 L, and the PESSAT and JEE Mains students have to pay 4.1 L and the Management Quota students have to pay 10L. All of these are annual fees.
