There is no clear winner in this comparison. If you are interested in Mining Engineering and want to learn fundamental and core technicalities, then NIT Surathkal will be better. As an institute, NITK is better than other engineering colleges in Karnataka. It offers better academics, exposure, facilities, and campus life. For Mining, NIT Surtahkal placements are great. Coal India visits NITK for recruiting students. The average CTC received by the students of this bench is INR 5-6 LPA.
But if you aren’t particularly interested in Mining Engineering, then you should choose CSE at PES University. In the current industry landscape, CSE offers better placements with cushy salary packages.
Here is some information on this subject-
PESU offers good placements for B.Tech CS. But because of a very large batch size, its average package comes down. The top 100 B.Tech CS students of PESU easily grab a package of 10 LPA+.
But IIITB is a better choice. It offers better faculty, peer group, placements, etc. Though PESU has a large campus, a lot of it is under construction.
I would recommend you choose iMtech at IIIT Bangalore, especially if you are not planning for a Masters’ abroad.
The institution chosen for Computer Science Engineering is very good. It is one of the top universities in Bangalore city. Bangalore being a metropolitan city provides an excellent city life to the students in the South India region. The University has been ranked #7th in the lists of India’s most trusted Educational Institutes. Most of the professors of the CS department have completed their undergraduate studies, some of them have even completed their Post-graduate studies.
Facilities in PES
The University has a very well developed library, consisting of a number of facilities for reading. It has over 1 Lakhs documents for students. Some of them are namely: books, journals, project reports, previous years’ examinations question papers, conference proceedings, institutional repositories, etc. it also has some electronics resources like E-books, Standards, CD ROMS, etc.
The department organizes many industry-oriented research programs. These research programs are handled individually by the department or even in collaboration with some research units.
The organizations that provide funds for the research works are government organizations or industry.
Campus
The size of the campus is about 30 acres and is 7 km away from Bangalore City Junction Railway Station.
City life is student-friendly and provides the students with all the facilities.
Secure hostels, modern cafeterias, excellent sports, and recreation facilities are some of the on-campus facilities.
The campus provides all the necessary course-specific requirements for their students. For example fully equipped workshops for engineering students, on-campus hotels for hotel management students, a 750-bed hospital for medical students, etc.

A number of programs are held by the clubs.
The university gives nearly 100% placements to the students of all the fields. Some top recruits are Amazon, Cisco, LinkedIn, Flipkart, JP Morgan, Microsoft, Mahindra Rise, Clear trip, TESCO, Honeywell, L’Oréal, Bosch, ITC, Nestle, HP, Oracle, Deloitte, Genpact, Morgan Stanley, HDFC Bank, EY, Accor Hotels, Cruise Companies, etc. Overall the University is perfect in all aspects which will lead you to a better future.
Usually, the placement starts at the end of summer vacation after the 6th semester, around the end of July. Companies start visiting for recruitment from the start of fourth year. Some companies that offer internships to 3rd-year students, may offer pre-placement options to some students. You can expect placement at PES University to start from the 6th semester.
PES University is better for CSE in comparison to NIT Patna. PES has established a brand name over the years.
It offers better placement opportunities in comparison to NIT Patna. The college infrastructure, environment and other facilities are good. The administration is strict in certain manners, and the students are expected to fulfill the attendance criteria.
Though it is not very affordable, and the hostels aren’t top notch. But it offers good industry exposure, and the student crowd and faculty of this college is also good enough.
I would recommend PES for your CSE. However, I would also suggest you talk to some of the department seniors at both these colleges for better decision making.
Though both PES University and NIT Patna don’t have a sufficient reputation in the industry, NIT Patna can be a better choice because of the NIT tag. Having friends study in both the institutes, here are some things they mentioned -
