Remarks

Few teachers are really very caring and they put all their efforts to help students who actually are concerned to get better in their career.

Entrance Preview

No entrance exams. I got admission in B. A. (H) Economics on the basis of my marks in 12th class. I had got 89% in the 12th class and according to the cutoff, I was eligible to take admission in the college. I opted for this particular college because the sports facility is pretty good here and I love sports.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

As everybody knows, Economics Honours in DU is one of the top courses available. hence, there is a dignity in it too. Anyone with a sound interest in Economics can do it but keep in mind that a regular self-study and followups with the assignments and different seminars are equally important.

Internships Opportunities

The different subject departments have different groups formed to allow access to various amenities to the students. In the same way, The Economics department provides the opportunity for internships with NGOs (mostly unpaid but has great value), and different startups and firms in Delhi.

Placement Experience

2.5

The placement and job opportunities are also basically accelerated and managed by different subject departments. Companies like ICICI Bank, ICICI Prudential come to recruit new talents in the college. Here, your internship experience plays an important role. Especially that of an NGO.

College Events

4.5

Events in the college include: Fresher's party, College Fest and other seminars and inter and intra-college competitions. Fresher's party is organised to introduce and welcome newcomers to the college every year. It involves a number of competitions among freshers and declaration of various designations like- Mr./Ms. Fresher, etc. College Fests generally see Bollywood superstars and singers coming to the college to entertain everyone.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee structure in this college is quite feasible. I had to pay around 7000 to 7500 every year, which I think has changed now a bit. The examination fees are to be paid separately, or sometimes with the annual fees as per the college authority. The college campus has a branch of Central Bank of India with ATM facility which makes it easy to make the payment.

Fees and Financial Aid

I don,t have any such information about any scholarship or loan facility provided by the college. As an alternative, students can look out for scholarships provided by CBSE and central government and state government.

Campus Life

4

Campus life is good at Shyam Lal college. There is a newly constructed building and the environment is disabled-friendly. All the classrooms and every place of access have numberings and names in English and Brail languages to help. Also, the college is surrounded by beautiful flowers and plants planted with numberings on them.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

There is no hostel facility as per my knowledge in this college. Although, one can get good deals on PG or rent in rooms or flats as per their budget. The locality around the college has ample option as such. Also, the cost of such accommodations is not too high as that of campus-colleges.

Alumni/Alumna

The departmental magazine sports names of college alumni who have been successful in getting placed at good companies or organizations. Their contact numbers and email ids are also mentioned there. I have never contacted anyone yet. So, I can't make any comment on such topic.

Exam Structure

Exams are conducted semester-wise. There are six semesters, one every 5-6 months. The exams are generally conducted in Nov-Dec for sem-I/III/V and in May-Jun for sem-II/IV/VI. After every semester exam gets over, there is a semester break. Also, students get a mid-sem break for preparations for exams.

Admission

The top 4 subjects including English and Maths, both mandatory, are taken to calculate the % and the admission is given on the basis of cutoffs issued by the college in different streams. The college issues cutoffs on the guidelines of 'University of Delhi' every year for different courses according to the requirements and availability of seats in different departments.

Faculty

3.5

The faculty of the college is quite impressive. There are a lot of PhD lecturers and with the improving image of the college day-by-day, they are playing key roles in building a better college of the present and future scholars here. Also, you may come across few guest teachers who bring new and creative energy to the college and its scholars of different departments.

Course Curriculum Overview:

British classics, Indian writing, postcolonial literature builds a strong foundation in literary analysis, critical thinking, and interpretation, which are useful skills. As for comprehensiveness, the curriculum is quite broad. It covers multiple literary periods, genres, and critical theories over the three years, so you’re not really missing out on the essentials. In that sense, it feels academically complete. But sometimes, it leans more towards breadth over depth you move quickly from one topic to another.

There's a placement cell and placement drives do happen in college but genuinely the package offered is not really considerable. After the 4th semester students are considered to sit in the placement drives though I would say it is not very efficient and fruitful.

Placement Experience:

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

The reason why I choose this subject because I like history and want to know more about it . History have the best opportunities to pursue the UPSC , Anthropology, archeology and we can learn more about historical researches . The faculty im the department of history is updated and well versed in the field of history and have adopted student friendly teaching methods which make me suggest this subject in JMC to the students who likes to pursue higher studies in history. The exams are conducted at the end of every semester with moderate difficulty level .
