Course Curriculum Overview
I choose computer science because of its demand in the industry and the packages the companies are offering to computer science students. Faculties are quite friendly and experienced too having great knowledge about their domain. I would say on average there is one faculty for every 50 students. Faculties are mostly Ph.D. and the teaching method is also unique with a smart class in every lecture room. Exams are held 2 times in each semester i.e. mid-term and end-semester exams.
Internships Opportunities
Companies like Amazon, Apple, and Cisco offer internships to students, and the roles are mostly software developers. The internship is a little bit harder on campus as mostly companies are offering full-time only. To be eligible for an internship one should maintain a good CGPA and should indulge themselves in end-to-end projects that can affect the society that we are living in.
Placement Experience
Placements are good at Thapar university. It is from 3 years the students are eligible for campus placements. But mostly companies visit in 7 semesters and 8 semesters. Companies like Amazon, Apple, Cisco, Bain, etc. visited the campus and in 2023 till now 1500+ students are placed and about 150 companies have visited the campus. The highest package is about 45 lakhs and the average package is 11 lakhs per year. Mostly the profile offered is a software engineer or data analyst. Thapar has a record of 95% in getting placements.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees is quite high. Approximately, the fee for each semester is about 1,89,000 and there are total of 8 semesters. The hostel fee is not included. The fees is usually hiked 5-10% after every year. If you got a good rank in JEE MAINS the authority will definitely award you with a scholarship depending upon the rank. Also on securing a CGPA of more than 9.5 in a year, students can avail of scholarships. The placements are good I got a package of 10LPA.
Campus Life
Social Life is quite amazing on campus. Every year there are 10-15 cultural events to which famous celebrities like Zakir Khan are invited for entertainment. Various Hackathons also take place during this 4 year period. Talking about the academics, the library and the lecture room are nicely built and are up to date with every facility. Almost each and every book and journal are available in the library. There are many sports and extracurricular activities on campus from basketball to cricket to badminton and many more. Many clubs help to improve soft skills which are necessary for upliftment in the career. Social Clubs such as CCS, mudra are run by the students.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel facility is also fantastic. There are usually 2 people in the room with an attached washroom. Study table, AC, mattress, etc. all are included in the room. The hostel provides breakfast, lunch and dinner with different menu on each day. In non-veg only eggs are allowed in the meal and in the morning only. To register for hostel one has to fill the google form and pay the amount and afterwards the hostel is allocated. I lived in Hostel-M.
Admission
All Btech students having more than 60% in the 12 standards were allowed to apply. The application can be easily found on thapar.edu after the JEE MAINS exam is conducted. The application fee for the form was 1500 in 2019. The application dates were quite flexible giving a month to apply after the JEE MAINS. The process was quite smooth and according to me, there is no need for any improvement in the process.
