Remarks

Students applying for English Hons in DU should be 12th pass and must have English as their core subject in the school. Where to find: All the updates regarding the admission process comes on the official website of du. There will be 5 to 6 cut-offs depending on the seats available. Once the cut-off comes students can apply for any college if their percentage meets the cut-off (one student can only apply for one college). After applying for the college, the college will review and check all the required documents. Once it's done confirmation mail will come and a payment link will be generated. And then it'll be done. I've applied under the OBC criteria and the cut-off was 2 percent less than the general one. Online admissions have been a total relief but it would have been great if students could apply to more than 1 college.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

I wanted to go for BA in political science but the cut-off went to 100 or something for it so I didn't meet the eligibility criteria for that so I chose English Hons and also because I wanted to do a language course so I wanted a course which will not take much attention. There are many teachers in the English department (around 50 to 60). The student ratio is maybe 10:9 (girls: boys) Teachers and the whole faculty are very friendly and open, and also some of them are LGBTQ-friendly. They are very experienced and knowledgeable. There are two semesters in one year. Exams will be conducted once every semester in the end (after every 4 to 5 months). I had given online exams in the first semester which were easy as compared to the exams which were conducted in the 2nd sem offline mode. A student will be able to pass if he/she knows how to write stories out of summaries. They'll be able to get passing marks if they've read the summary of the books.

Internships Opportunities

3

The same companies which had offered the jobs has also offered the internship opportunities. I haven't applied to any internship yet but I know from my seniors that they'll first know the skills you have and the company will give some training and then there will be some task that has to be done either individually or in a group.

Placement Experience

3.5

Students can apply from the first semester for campus placements. Concentrix, fis global and many more companies have offered jobs in our college. I don't remember the names but some companies offered copywriting, content writing, etc. for the English department field. The highest was 2 lakh per annum. 4% out of 10% will get placement. I wanted to try social media management or digital Marketing after getting an English Hons degree.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee structure for English Hons is very affordable. Dyal Singh college comes under Delhi University and the fee structure of DU is quite affordable if compared to other private universities. For English Hons 14 to 15k has to be given for the fee if you are from the obc or general category. SC ST and students from PWD have to pay much less than the OBC and general ones. I've just completed my first year so I haven't got any jobs but I've seen my seniors getting a good package from on-campus job opportunities.

Campus Life

4

Priyadarshini is our annual fest and mostly is conducted in April. Our college has a very good library which has a ton of books. Students can get them very easily. Our college is mostly famous for boxing and we have archery, football, cricket, etc. sports, and our college also conduct some extracurricular activities in the art and creative field. We have a society named kriya that works for the LGBTQ community. It is run by the students and I've been a part of that society. It's great. And we have other societies too like enacts, Rotaract, virangna (women development, cell) etc.

Course Curriculum Overview:

British classics, Indian writing, postcolonial literature builds a strong foundation in literary analysis, critical thinking, and interpretation, which are useful skills. As for comprehensiveness, the curriculum is quite broad. It covers multiple literary periods, genres, and critical theories over the three years, so you’re not really missing out on the essentials. In that sense, it feels academically complete. But sometimes, it leans more towards breadth over depth you move quickly from one topic to another.

Placement Experience:

There's a placement cell and placement drives do happen in college but genuinely the package offered is not really considerable. After the 4th semester students are considered to sit in the placement drives though I would say it is not very efficient and fruitful.

Placement Experience:

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

The curriculum was overall good and being a economics honours courses it was challenging at times. The course offers many things for students interms of their further academic pursuits or any placement they are looking for. Talking about the areas of improvement and teaching methods there are none. The exams of the respective subject are to happen. They take test 1 , test 2 and there is final exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The reason why I choose this subject because I like history and want to know more about it . History have the best opportunities to pursue the UPSC , Anthropology, archeology and we can learn more about historical researches . The faculty im the department of history is updated and well versed in the field of history and have adopted student friendly teaching methods which make me suggest this subject in JMC to the students who likes to pursue higher studies in history. The exams are conducted at the end of every semester with moderate difficulty level .
