Remarks

I took admission through lateral Entry and there were no entrance exams due to covid so they were admitted through a merit list which was based on the overall diploma percentage of the student. I have no idea about cut off but my diploma percentage was 82. But now I don't think Thapar is taking admission on the basis of merit list so there is an entrance test for the lateral entry student. Students can apply for the test from Thapar official website. They need to pay a 1500 application fee (it can differ). Thapar also provides reservations to the students who lie in schedule caste like SC, ST and OBC. The admission process is simple you should only focus on clearing the exam further process is simple.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

Thapar is famous for its faculty. I chose computer science because of two reasons. The first one is obviously the placement. The CSE and COE branches of Thapar had a good record of placement and the average of this year is around 8 lakh. The faculty of Thapar is very good the senior staffs are very cooperative with students but you know not everyone is same as others so there are some faculty too who don't give thier 100% which they should but overall all the members and teachers are good. The teaching method of faculty is awesome. Although some of the teachers are not that much good the 80% of teachers are very nice at their profession. Exams at Thapar are pretty challenging and it's the good thing about this college but it's not that tough to clear that so an average student can easily score good marks here if he/she give his best on the campus.

Internships Opportunities

5

You can get an internship from the starting of the 5th semester. The ON-campus summer intern is good but not as good as it should be but the final placements and internship at Thapar is best. Companies like Amazon, Microsoft, LinkedIn visit the every year campus and almost every student get placed.

Placement Experience

4.5

Campus placements start from the 7th semester. Although you can get an internship from starting of the 5th semester. Companies like Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Adobe, JP Morgon and many MNC's visit the campus. The average package at Thapar is around 6 to 8 lakh the highest of this year is around 30 lakh on amazon. The average placement percentage of Thapar is 95-98% which is pretty good.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee is the major issue of Thapar. Since it is a premium institute the average per year institution fee is around 4 lakh. The fee increase per year. If I talk about my self I paid 1.8L per semester in the first year the 2.08 lakh per semester in the second year now I will pay 2.18 lakh per semester in my last year. The hostel fee is also expensive and it varies from hostel to hostel. But you can say that the fee is worth it since Thapar has a very awesome infrastructure and the best place for Thapar is the Nava Nalanda library. So if u can afford this much fee you should go with Thapar. Although Thapar also provides scholarships to 10% of their top students. It provides a full semester fee discount to its best students.

Campus Life

5

Campus life is awesome at Thapar mainly the hostel life. Thapar has a good sports ground it includes 1 cricket ground 1 football ground 1 badminton court and tennis courts. There is a place named COS you can get anything you want from there every basic need shop is there. The campus infrastructure is amazing there is an OAT at Thapar you can chill there with your friends in your free time. Canteens at Thapar are pretty awesome. Some famous places are G-block, COS, OAT, CSE block and of course girls hostel, just kidding. There is a huge library with a capacity of around 1000 students at a time. Classrooms are awesome also there are some amazing societies where you can join and get a part of amazing events.

Hostel Facilities

5

Hostels are awesome for real. There are multiple hostels but the famous ones are M, O, J, K and N(it's a girls hostel). The very common best thing about this hostel is their gym's. But every hostel has some unique quality like K is famous for Mess M is famous for its infrastructure J is famous for its location and view although J is a Non-AC hostel and the best one is O hostel it is all in one hostel. The registration of a hostel is simple you are provided with a link to fill up your choice and according to your preferences, you can get your hostel.

Other Applied Colleges

MSIT IPU university | Btech computer science and engineering

Thapar has better faculty and future opportunity than MSIT so i went with thapar instead of MSIT.

The major recruiters are: Oracle, CISCO, JPMC,Deloite,IBM,ZS etc.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.
