Remarks
I applied for the BSc chemistry honors course in St Xavier's College, Kolkata in the unreserved category. One of the main reasons for choosing this college was its student-friendly faculty and a good environment to study and cultivate your knowledge besides the vast exposure that it provides. The eligibility criteria for admission in chemistry requires one to have studied the subject at the +2 level and score a minimum of 65 percent in the higher secondary exams. The admission process is smooth and solely on the basis of merit.
Course Curriculum Overview
Chemistry is one of the most interesting subjects which has applications in various fields, which was the biggest reason for me to choose this subject as my major. The faculty of chemistry at the college is very student-friendly and approachable. The professors are highly qualified and capable in their respective fields and hold a doctorate in their subject of specialization. The faculty to student ratio is 1:4. The term exams happened timely every semester and the quality of the paper is such that it challenges the student while at the same time ensuring the fact that anyone who attends the classes diligently is able to score well.
Internships Opportunities
Xavier works closely with Internshala and provides various internship opportunities to its students. Learning excel and web development are taught at workshops and the usage of these skills are applied in internships offered by information technology companies. Moreover, writing, book reviews, and many more such internship opportunities are available based on the student's interest.
Placement Experience
The students become eligible to be placed from the last semester or third year. Highly reputed companies like Detroit, TCS, and many others come for on-campus recruitment. 85 percent of students are placed and the rest go for further studies. I plan on getting a master's degree after completing my bachelor's.
Fees and Financial Aid
The total cost to study at this college may be around 1 lakh rupees. I did not receive any stipend for the BSc course and it does not offer any form of scholarship. The fees were not hiked at any point of time during my time in this college.
Campus Life
The annual fest here is called Xavotsav and it is conducted in the month of January. The library here might be one of a kind found in any college. It contains all the necessary books required for the course and a very good ambiance to focus and study. The classrooms and comfortable with PowerPoint presentations. The college hosts various sports events annually from hockey to cricket, basketball, and many others. The various clubs are theater, debate, commerce, to name a few.
