Remarks

IIT Kharagpur is endless and Infinite. 10,000 independent lives running parallely, yet all runnng within these 2100 acres, tied up in our own unique culture.

Entrance Preview

First, I had to appear for JEE Mains, 2016. Around two and a half lakh students qualified for JEE Advanced. I was one of them. And then I cleared JEE Advanced with a rank of 10,735.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The flexibility in curriculum makes our students fit into any sector such as Core Engineering, IT, Finance, Analytics, Consulting et al. It does not matter which discipline you study, you may make a successful in-road to placement. Research scholars share their success stories with the current batches of students and how they were able to manage with difficulties. We are provided with a wide choice of electives in almost all the fields. Naming a few - Data analytics, Number theory, Queueing theory and many more.

Internships Opportunities

IIT Kharagpur invites the best recruiters in the market during the placement season covering various sectors such as Core Engineering, IT, Finance, Consulting, Automobiles, PSUs, etc. The sheer diversity of recruiters across all domains and the extensive participation of overseas companies is an epitome of the global stature of the brand IIT Kharagpur. Some of the companies are - Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, Larsen & Toubro, Ashoka Buildcon, etc.

Placement Experience

5

Based on the past records, it's evident that those who have maintained their academic CGPA above 7.5 in any of the disciplines and participated in various extracurricular activities at IIT Kharagpur, almost 98% students have been successful in getting the placement of their choice. These recruiters offer the average salary in the range of 9.00-12.00 Lakhs per annum. - More than 1500 students placed every year in 250+ top brands with best compensation packages. KGP students are universally compatible to take up challenges in any of the sector because of the flexibility in our curriculum.

College Events

5

We celebrate a variety of events in our unique and special way. Some notable events are: Illumination & Rangoli- IIT Kgp celebrates diwali in it's own unique pollution free way using Diyas to light the entire campus. Spring fest- One of the largest cultural fest of India Kshitij- Asia's largest techno management fest apart from these fests and events we have very many events specific to certain departments such as COMPOSIT, and many more.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is rather expensive due to the recent fee hike but in comparison to the facilties provided it is not much of an issue relatively. However, for a family hailing from the middle class it is quite difficult to cope with the recent fee structure.

Fees and Financial Aid

Yes, scholarships are available for meritorious students and students who aren't well off financially. One also gets to avail scholarships on the basis of his/her family's annual income.

Campus Life

5

Campus life- While in other IITs, students would be fascinated by the city; here, the residents of Kharagpur are fascinated by IIT. IIT Kharagpur is an island in itself with all happenings, all possible places where one could hang out, chill, roam, play, and practically do anything is within the campus. KGP transforms into a micro-nation where some brainy folks are captured and left to live five years of their lives. You naturally get a sense of belonging and pride to be here. Gender ratio- 1:10 I guess. One girl for every ten boys. :P And that's something boys aren't too much happy about. XD You will remember your first day in Hall OP, the long advice your senior gave over the mess table. Maybe how you and your friends came up with a brilliant new start-up idea, the days when you planned a birthday surprise for your friend by the lakeside, the times when you got admitted in BC Roy to fake a medical leave, the first day you go all drunk on the roof-top, the 2.2 round on that cold winter night with your girlfriend, the first time you flunked and your friends cheered you up, the times when you headbanged over the rock performance at SF, or the times you spent in group study with friends in muggu room and ensured nobody studied, the CS tournament over LAN, the elaborate jali made for Illu, the long races on Khoj, the Hang-ons everywhere, the GymK Elections, the Hall Day mess and the mess in mess, the NSS Camp and the Fancy Dress Event on Farewell, the Inter-IIT thrill, the torn shirts in Holi, the new Film in Netaji, the first Department Trip, overnight snacks at Chhedis, the first party at Flavors, wow, the list goes endlessly! These memories tie you up. And these are made every single day here.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

Hostel facilities are awesome. We are provided with single rooms, double bed rooms or rooms which accomodate three students. 24x7 supply of unlimited internet is a delight. The amount of information and contents available on LAN is great. However, the food quality is not at par with our expectations. Other than that describing our hostel life in one word- Awesome.

Alumni/Alumna

Surprised to see here is we address seniors not as sir or madam but by their name. It was quite akward for us in the initial month but then we got used to it. Seniors teaches us more than profs. It was yet another strange fact. For eg if i wanted to learn badminton skills a senior would guide me better than our own coach. Same is the case with other sports. On the other hand, alumni network helps us in all possible ways. Sometimes they organise the whole internship programme, some of the times they organise seminars telling us about their life and their struggles. We are really inspired our alumni.

Exam Structure

We have a total of eight semesters over the course of 4 years. Each semester has two major exams- mid semesters and end semesters. Mid semesters account for 30℅ and end semesters account for 80℅ of the total marks. Rest 20℅ marks are for attendance, tutorials and class tests. Labs should be conducted more often so that students get well versed with the topics. When it comes to exams and labs life surely takes a U turn here and probably becomes hectic.

Admission

First, I received the news that I managed to secure a rank in Jee advanced on the date of result declaration. Then we had to opt for various branches during online choice filling. After that mock seat allocation round was conducted to give an idea about what branch to expect. After 4 rounds of counselling I got my current branch. We had report to the respective reporting IITs on the date provided with the required documents. My documents were verified and admission was granted successfully.

Faculty

4.5

Our faculties are very well versed with the topics and have great knowledge about their respective subjects. They are very friendly and always satisfy our curiousity in a simple and understandable language. They are approachable and always encourage us to push our limits so that we keep striving to do ur best.

Placement Experience:

I’d rate HIT’s placement opportunities as 7.5/10 overall. It’s very good for CSE, IT, and ECE, decent for Electrical and core branches, and improving every year with more companies visiting and better preparation programs. If you’re skilled and consistent — especially in coding, communication, and aptitude — you’ll almost certainly get placed before graduatin

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course at HIT builds a strong foundation in core subjects like DSA, DBMS, OS, Networking, etc. making it solid for conceptual clarity and exams. However, it's not fully updated with modern industry trends like AI, cloud, DevOps, FullStack. Practical exposure is limited, so students must rely on self-learning and projects to stay industry relevant and placement ready.
