Dislikes
- The city is not developed, as a source of entertainment we have only one small cineplex and nothing else.
- The connectivity is very bad, there is no particular sim which has proper connectivity and the college WIFI itself has lots of prohibitions.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course structure is outstanding, both in its relevance and comprehensiveness. The courses are designed in such a way that over the years of your degree you cover all the essential aspects of the subject matter, ensuring that you gain a deep and thorough understanding. The concepts are up to date with current industry trends and practices. The curriculum is well structured, allowing for a smooth progression from fundamental concepts to the advanced topics. Overall, the curriculum gives excellent education, providing a solid foundation and practical skill.
Internships Opportunities
The college provides us wioth internship oppurtunities in our pre final year (the 5th semester for B Tech students and the 7th semester for dual degree students). A variety of companies visit the college to give internship related to a variety of fields (like software development, Prodect Management, Data analysis, etc. etc. But the criteria for these companies are really high and it is very tough to land an internship in any of these companies. You may also opt to get a internship under a professor if you are interested in it. It is relatively easy to get internship off campus.
Placement Experience
The placements differ for each department, but mostly the companies which come here to offer placements are divided into three groups ones who are there only for your department, ones who open only for circuital branches and those who are open for all/multiple branchers. For which branch a company opens for is their own decision. But overall the placements are amazing for all the branches. The B Tech. students are eligible for campus placement in their 7th sem whereas the dual degree students are eligible from their 9th sem(another eligibility criteria is that you should have atleast a P grade in all the subjects). Around 60 to 65 companies visit each year and make 700+ offers. The highest package can be around 1 or 2 crores and average being 22 to 25 lakhs. around 95% students are successfull in getting a placement or PPO.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees for each semester consists of 2 parts :- 1) Tution fees, of 1 lakh per semester 2) and HMC fees, which includes the fees for hall, food, etc. etc. , of around 42000 per semester. So the total fees foe B Tech. (8 semesters) course is 11,36,000 (approx 12 lakhs) and that for dual degree (B. Tech + M. Tech) (10 semesters) is 14,20,000 (approx 15 lakhs). (Approximation made as there are other fees to be paid at the time of admission)
Campus Life
The infracture of the campus is not that great, we have a market named as Tech M, a auditorium named Netaji auditorium (which mostly show local movies). There are a lots of clubs and societies in the campus like Spring Fest (the social and cultural fest of IIT Kharagpur), TAdS (Technology Adventure Society which is a great place for all adventure enthusiasts) and KTJ (The annual tech fest of IIT Kharagpur). The central library has all the books realte dthe courses as well as top articles in the worls, the hall librarys also contain most of the necessary books.
Hostel Facilities
while most of the hostels have sharying rooms some hostels like Megnad Saha Hall of Residence, Vidya Sagar Hall of Residence etc. have single rooms. The rooms have a basic table, chair, bed, light and fan it it. The meal are not that great, some day we geyt good food but on other days we feel like the foods are not even edible. We do have night Canteen and Genetral store in almost all the Halls of Residence. The hostels does require you to change your room each year and you may or may not get a painted room.
Admission
The other college i applied for was Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani. It was my backup plan in case i could not make it to IIT Kharagpur. I did not chose BITS Pilani as I cracked JEE Advanced with enough marks to get into IIT. The opportunities which we get in IIT is far more than that in BITS, this was my sole reason to pich IIT over BITS. To get admission in any IIT you have to first crack JEE mains to be able to sit in JEE Advanced. Then you have toi crack JEE Advanced and sit in around 7 rounds of counciling to get into any IIT. But once you crack JEE Advanced its just a piece of cake from there on.
Faculty
The faculties itself are amazing but the teaching style may vary, there are some professors who have excelent teaching method but we have to attend the classes of some professors just for the attendence. The course id designed in such a way that you start with easy topics in the first two years and you gradually step into the course from third year exploring everything about it. The exams as well as the markings are a bit on the tough end. The question papers are really tough and also the marking system is really strict.
Interview Experience
There was no Group Discussion or Interview in the entire process. However, appearing for both JEE Mains and JEE Advanced was mandatory, as selection was entirely based on performance in these prestigious exams.
