Remarks

I got selected on a merit basis (with 88.25% of the best 4 subjects) in SPMC in the 2nd cut-off ( having eligibility 88%). I qualified several other colleges in the 1st cut off but I preferred this college over others because I liked the environment of SPMC also, we were going to be the first batch of the department of Geography of SPMC so this thing also excited me.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

Geography having wider scope attracted me to pursue it. The course of Geography is of multidisciplinary nature because in the past 3 years we studied a variety of papers like Geomorphology, human geography, Remote sensing and GIS, Fieldwork and Research Methodology, Population Geography, Regional development and planning, political geography, Evolution of geographical thought, Hydrology and Oceanography, etc. The CGPA was calculated on the basis of Internal Assessment of 20 marks, Attendance of 5 marks, Theory exam of remaining 75 marks which were of moderate level. The faculty-student ratio is fair enough (43:3) therefore, teachers are able to allocate enough time and attention to each student. The faculty members are very cooperative and encouraging. We are fortunate enough to have such well-qualified and helping teachers as our mentors.

Internships Opportunities

3.5

Students from all courses and years are eligible for internships. Companies like Quollab, Apna Campus, Kollege Connection, Blitz jobs, Themerakigirl, Glevy service India private limited, DDMS, Tripgix, Pratham, etc. hire students. Students are hired in short term (1 month or less) as well as long term internships (5-6 months or more) for the post of HR, marketing executive, graphic designers, content writers, business analyst, campus ambassadors, blog writer, etc. The selection procedure is usually shortlisting from a resume along with an interview.

Placement Experience

3.5

The college placement cell is quite active. Students become eligible for placements in the final year. Before COVID 19 placement fair was organized and after pandemic the cell provides information about online internship and placement opportunities through social media platforms like Instagram and WhatsApp groups. Companies like Zone Media, Wipro, Amazon, Asahi Glass Ltd, Tata Power DDL, etc. hire for the post of influencer marketing executive, sales associate, digital workspace service desk, customer service associate, assistant officer trainee, etc. The average package ranges from 3-4 lacs/ annum. Students get the opportunity to work from home (WFH) as well as in locations like Gurugram and Noida. The selection procedure is usually an aptitude test and interview.

Fees and Financial Aid

Fees of B.A. Hons Geography is very affordable. Admission Fee (1st year)- Rs 9,385 2nd Year Annual Fee- Rs. 8480 3rd Year Annual Fee- Rs 8,580 Examination Fee (in II, IV, VI Sem only) - Rs100/ Theory Paper, Rs 200/ Practical paper *Best All Round Student of the Year *Principal's Medal *All India Scholarship *Sushma Gupta Memorial Scholarships *Shri S.M.Puri Memorial Scholarship

Campus Life

4

Course Curriculum Overview:

British classics, Indian writing, postcolonial literature builds a strong foundation in literary analysis, critical thinking, and interpretation, which are useful skills. As for comprehensiveness, the curriculum is quite broad. It covers multiple literary periods, genres, and critical theories over the three years, so you’re not really missing out on the essentials. In that sense, it feels academically complete. But sometimes, it leans more towards breadth over depth you move quickly from one topic to another.

There's a placement cell and placement drives do happen in college but genuinely the package offered is not really considerable. After the 4th semester students are considered to sit in the placement drives though I would say it is not very efficient and fruitful.

Placement Experience:

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

The reason why I choose this subject because I like history and want to know more about it . History have the best opportunities to pursue the UPSC , Anthropology, archeology and we can learn more about historical researches . The faculty im the department of history is updated and well versed in the field of history and have adopted student friendly teaching methods which make me suggest this subject in JMC to the students who likes to pursue higher studies in history. The exams are conducted at the end of every semester with moderate difficulty level .
