Remarks

The University of Calcutta has been known to produce great scientists and people with great prowess in the field of education. It's is naturally the first choice institute in Kolkata. The admission process is solely based on merit whether it be the direct admission students or the entrance cleared students.

Course Curriculum Overview

Biochemistry is primarily a research-oriented subject and sort of an umbrella subject in the research field. The department has one of the best faculty in the whole of India. Though the student to teacher ratio is high it never is a hindrance as teachers are there from 10 in the morning to 8 in the evening to help out everyone.

Class Size: 45Course Fees: INR 6000 per year

Internships Opportunities

The internship is of the two-month span. These are oan India internships. If a student can arrange for any specific lab for their own self then the recommendation is never an issue. The faculty is instrumental in arranging for internship in places like IACS, BOSE INSTITUTE, IICB, ICMR NICED, ISI etc.

Placement Experience

As this course is mainly research-oriented, students completing this program are taught to clear PhD entrance exams to get into the research field. Placement is certainly not the first choice of students. But if a student wants to get into industry then an industrial internship during the summer internship program will be of major help.

Fees and Financial Aid

There are 4 semesters and the basic cost including examination fees and centre fees for the two years is around 12500. Being a government university there are a lot of scholarship opportunities. The university provides the best in class education at the lowest of fees.

Campus Life

Apart from freshers and farewell ceremonies, there are numerous programs and functions that keep the students engaged throughout the year. There are cricket and football tournament. There's an annual indoor games tournament. Along with various regional celebrations.

Likes

Laboratories facilities are amazing as it is a premium institute. All the labs contains instrument which are available only in institute of national importance o
Faculties are amazingly qualified as well as friendly for solving your doubts
You get multiple opportunities for the industrial experience as internship. This institute provide amazing placement opportunities with high salaries.

Dislikes

The area of the campus is small leads to chaos. Which will be averted after shifting to new campus
Due to the small campus sitting places are very small
Hostel facilities and rooms are very poor.

Placement Experience:

2nd year students are eligible for the campus placement. Sai, Hetero, mendine, dr. Reddys etc companies visities for the campus placement. Offers ranges from 5-12 lpa. 60% students gets placed, 10% goes for higher studies and others get job off campus in my department. Other departments has 100% placement. My plans are pHd from Niper as it provides vast knowledge and instrumental exposure.

The Techno Experience

Likes

Practical Exposure with hands on training is always good for personal growth
The laboratories were well equipped with state of the art instruments
Entrepreneurship was encouraged and it really helped us with designing future start ups.

Dislikes

Lack of scholarships for the needy is one thing that needed to be worked on.
There was a distinct lack of encouragement to pursue extracurricular activity.
Sometimes it felt like it would have helped if we had a mental health counsellor onboard with the department.

Placement Experience:

Techno India University has a strong campus placement. Several students got jobs during the last semester, and I am one of them. Some others choose to wait for better opportunities. Some joined good startups. The package was nominal as we were all freshers. After getting my degree, I planned to pursue corporate experience and then join a lab for my PhD.

Likes

Well equipped laboratories with all necessary instruments and chemicals and whatever that is required. Even Electron microscope are available
Senior and Junior relationship is great, and PhD scholars often guide you in studies and in Life
Canteens, Playground, Books shops are near or inside the Campus with Department and Central Library with access to many books and online resources and WiFi

Dislikes

Politics is on peak since great colleges in india such as JNU are engaged in political activities
Attendance above 75 percent is mandatory to appear for exams
The duration of practical can be of 4-5 hours at a strech sometimes apart from Theory classes

Placement Experience:

Not all courses provides placements. But Placements are often common in departments such as Geology, for other departments, faculties can provide letters of recommendations and absorb as PhD scolars after PG completion and satisfactory performance

My thoughts on our beloved Sidho Kanho Birsha University.

Likes

The most I liked about my university is the infrastructure and availability of facilities for our studies.
Second thing I like are our professors . They help us in every aspect of our educational or personal life .
Third thing I like the most is my batchmates who gives me encouragement for pursuing my studies.

Dislikes

The university is a bit far from the Purulia city . So the connectivity is a problem.
I think if we get some extra hours of the lab facilities, that will be great.
Water purifier are available in some of the floors I think the number should be increased.

Placement Experience:

The campus placement of our university is quite good and it is getting better day by day. Especially our chemistry department is doing great in this field. Last year our dept almost hit 100% placements and the highest package was of 5 lpa. I am planning to peruse my PhD after MSc.

Perfect campus for economics student

Admission process are very simple. Generally entrance exam was conducted for admission but I took admission just after COVID so I didn't give any entrance exam. But cutt off was very high. At least 70 percent marks in graduation are mandatory to take admission in this university on the merit basis. Application form are generally found on University official website in August.
