Remarks

IEM is a highly reputed college and one can understand why it is so when he,she is admitted in the college. The building does not look very impressive neither do we have the opportunity to sit in air conditioned class rooms. But we learnt things in here what would help in future days. We learnt technology. We learnt discipline. We got a family consisting of a large number of students a big number of faculty members and the non-teaching-staffs. I am really grateful to the college management to gift me such a life.

Entrance Preview

I had taken the WBJEE (2012) and obtained a rank of 7149. There was an online selection process consisting of three rounds. In the third round I got Institute of Engineering & Management (IEM) and was admitted as the closing rank of the institution. I had got Information Technology (IT) as my subject since that is what I was eligible for in IEM. I was not willing to leave this college though people asked me to get into some 'better' stream in some other college. But I did not do that simply because I couldn't find any other college I would have been eligible for to be good enough in comparison to IEM.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course structure is designed by our university, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT) which was formerly known as West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT). To be honest, the course structure is not very good but yes not that bad either. In our college I have always seen teachers talking about doing researches and going beyond the WBUT syllabus. They are very supportive when it is about doing some research work may that be in Image Processing or in Physics or in some IT subject itself.

Internships Opportunities

Nomy college does not provide internship but the M.Tech students have the opportunity to work as teaching assistants and they do get stipends for that though I am not aware of the amount in particular.

Placement Experience

4.5

IEM provides the biggest on campus job offers by bringing in quite a good number of average to big companies. Corporates are happy to visit our college and the placement records are overwhelming every year. It is always a 100% placement that is every student eligible to sit for the placements would have at least one job in hand the maximum being three jobs each.

College Events

4

Like most of the other colleges our college also observes a cultural and a technical festival each year. Apart from these we have food festival where students would sell dishes prepared by themselves only. Saraswati puja is another event where many students participate along with the faculty members.

Fee Structure And Facilities

There is no complaint against the fee structure. It is absolutely feasible. The government designed the fee structure college just follows that.

Fees and Financial Aid

No I am not aware of any such kind of loan facility or scholarship programmes.

Campus Life

4

We have a disciplined freedom in our campus. Quite equal number of male and female students are there in college. Everybody feels that heshe is a part of the IEM family. We have workshops on varied topics like entrepreneurship, robotics etc. Debates are held times to times. We have a magazine published once a year in which students are given chance to show their creative ideas. We do not have a playground in our campus but several indoor games like table tennis, carom and many more are there. Religion has never been any problem. Sometimes I have seen some people giving priorities to some particular sex but taking everything together as a unit that is not the usual case. Our college does not allow any kind of politics as that disturbs the environment of studying.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

Talking about hostel rooms are fine and they are enough in number also. Room is shared but that never creates any problem. The main problem faced here is the quality of the food. The food we get from our hostel canteen is far below the level of satisfaction.

Alumni/Alumna

We can always contact our alumni through our teachers if we wish to do so. Currently I am in the fourth year, so I don't have any student senior to me in B.Tech but what I can say is that in the last three years we never had any difficulty in campus because we could always find some senior who would come along to help you. We never knew what ragging is like because no one was ever interested in ragging juniors.

Placement Experience:

Studentsbecome eligible for placements from 7th semester. Various companies such as TCS, Infosys, Accenture, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, Godrej, etc. come for placements. Earlier many offers used to come however in the recent years the number of offers made have reduced significantly. highest package comes around 10 to 11 lakhs per annum with average being 4-5 lakhs per annum. I have kept my options open after completion of degree in doing further studies that is Mtech or getting into a job whichever seems appropriate at the situation.

I don't have idea about the placements since I'm in first year now. But I talked to a senior and got to know that many got multiple offers in 4th year. I also head that packages are around 4 lpa which is a decent and also a rise than the previous year.

Placement Experience:

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

Placement Experience:

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

Placement Experience:

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
