The college has grown ever since its establishment to become one of the best engineering colleges in Eastern India. However a lot more needs to be done on the placements front as bulk placements with few Indian companies does not provide the students right opportunities. The management of the college is committed for the development of the students and the training and placement cell works to improve the standards. The management of the college is easily approachable and a student can anytime reach them his,her queries,difficulties.

West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) is the entrance examination one needs to write for securing admission in Heritage Institute of Technology,Kolkata. I wrote the exam in 2007 and secured AIR 1800. Also, several students take The All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) conducted by the the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in India for admission in the college. However with recent change in pattern AIEEE is merged with JEE Joint Entrance Examination only.

The engineering course B.Tech is of 4-years duration. While the first year course structure is common across specialization the course differs from 2nd year onward as per the specialization selected for example computer Science,Chemical,Information Technology,Mechanical,Instrumentation,Electrical etc. In first year the course is common to set the stage of science which is different from what students learn in Std 10+2 and also aims at building an analytical mindset among the students.

However the college organizes summer training in collaboration with Ardent Technologies Kolkata. This is a paid training where the students paid and complete a training on computer languages,electronics and related areas of their choice for a duration of 4-6 weeks. Apart from this the college also has tie-up with New Jersey Institute of Technology,US where the students who are successful in application are sent for research project.

The final placements are conducted by the college. Till date the college has been successful in achieving 100 per cent placements. However majority of the students are recruited by companies such as Infosys,TCS,Wipro. Its a mass recruitment and the students are offered around Rs 3-4 LPA compensation. Core companies such as Philips Carbon,Haldia Petrochemicals etc are some of the other companies which visit campus.

The college has two major events,Dakshh,EcleciaWhile Dakshh is technical fest of HITK,Eclecia is cultural fest. The fests are organised by the student council and the volunteers. The fests see huge participation from students particularly from Eastern India.

The fee structure is feasible given the facilities provided on the campus. The fees are to be paid right before the beginning of the semester. On an average total course fee for 4 years would be approximately Rs 3-4 Lakhs including the admission fees at the time of the admission.

Easy loans are available from State Bank,Punjab National Bank etc. Also the college management provide scholarship to needy students on need cum merit basis. If any student who has good grades and profile with low family income can apply for the scholarship. A minimum of 25 per cent to a maximum of 100 per cent scholarship per semester is available.

Gender ratio is skewed towards male except for Bio-technology department where u fill majority females. Sports facilities are good in college with cricket,basketball,table tennis,carom,lawn tennis and many more available. The students also engage into different fun activities such as rock climbing and others. Robotics have gained significant importance among the students and right from the first year one can see robotics workshops and competition organised on campus.

The campus has boys hostel and girls hostel within the campus. The facilities of the hostels are good students get all the requisite facilities for a comfortable stay. The hostels are not very big and thus getting accommodation inside the campus has always remained a challenge and it is advisable to book right on the day of admission.

The 4 year course work is divided into semesters. Each semester has university examination conducted which comprises of 70 marks while the remaining 30 is for the lab work. Some of the faculty also gives weightage to attendance in class,laboratory,class participation,submission of lab reports etc. The exams are conducted by West Bengal University of Technology and reading the previous 2-3 years questions would suffice in writing the exam.

Not all the faculty across specialization are Ph.D but the college has some of the finest professors of India. Prof. B B Paira (Ex-Director) is one of the renowned Chemical engineer of India. Likewise several faculty from Computer Science have earned Ph.D and are affiliated to government bodies as consultant,advisors etc. Faculty of Computer Science,Electronics and Instrumentation,Chemical, Mechanical engineering department are well learned and qualified while other departments need more experienced faculty members.
