Remarks
When I completed my schooling, I was sure of opting for a journalism course as I always had a knack for writing. Hailing from a middle-class family, I was looking for a journalism course, which was less expensive but highly reputed. As I was researching for such course, I stumbled upon Delhi Universits website and found out Indraprastha College for Women was conducting an Entrance Test for its Self-Financed (quite affordable) course called B.A. (Hons) Multimedia and Mass Communication. The college is the oldest womens college of Delhi University. The affordability of the course and the collegs legacy was the determining factors for me.
Course Curriculum Overview
The syllabus consisted of diverse concepts of journalism like new media studies, cinema studies, broadcast journalism, plastic arts, etc. A few workshops were also provided to students, wherein notable personalities from the field of journalism like Shammi Narang (Voice-Over Artist) came and shared their insights. The faculty was very experienced and efficient. The students were divided into groups and were mentored by each professor. By the end of the fourth semester, we were supposed to find a four-week internship. Support was also given by one of the faculty members but it wasnt enough.
Internships Opportunities
I had opted for an internship at Sahara News Network where I used to work for the Programming Department. I was assigned several tasks including script-writing, production of news packages, and field reporting, etc. It was an unpaid internship.
Placement Experience
The placement cell is quite active and has collaborated with various reputed companies like Deloitte, Pinnacle, NIIT. The recruitment process is quite smooth and fruitful for most of the students among diverse programmes. In the batch of 2018, Zee Media offered a paid internship for those who aspired to venture in broadcast journalism.
College Events
It was a much-disciplined college. The faculty used to stress on maintaining a minimum of 66.6 percent attendance. The college also used to host cultural festivals from time to time. Each department used to have a separate cultural fest of their own, which was not very grandeur but the students used to be excited about it. Talking about the campus life, it was an off-campus college, but North Campus was in proximity. So, Hudson lane, Majnu Ka Tila, Kamla Nagar, Connaught Place were the most favorite spots for students to hang out.
Campus Life
Indraprastha College for Women is the oldest womens college with a legacy of 96 years. Located at Civil Lines, the college is famous for its beautiful white heritage building and the lush greenery. The vast stretched area has disabled-friendly features like tactile paths and ramps spread across the campus. The college is known for its exclusive swimming pool, Museum and Archive Resource Centre, Multimedia Studio, gymnasium, football, and tennis and squash courts. Its library has a book bank facility and ICT center with 80 computers.
