Remarks

The college management tries their best. Like any other institution, there are constant ebbs and flows, but you learn to rely on them. The officiating principal Sr Rosily is a kind and helpful figure. What can be made better are the prices of canteen food. Where most are willing to pay the high amount for the food, it can burn a hole in a student's pocket living far away from their families.

Course Curriculum Overview

Jesus and Mary College has been an eye opener by all means. The course curriculum is just the right amount of challenging and it demands hardwork. It will be fair to say that, this very institution transforms a carefree high school student into a resilient candidate suitable for the outside competition. With numerous societies holding fests almost every day, there's an outlet to burst your stress amid 8 to 4pm classes. The assignments and internal assignments are open spaces for creativity and self discovery. The library is like a heavy fruit laden tree. ( Often cherished for its coolness on hot summer days :p ). The concerned professors are the backbone of this institution and some of them are like actual mentors. The exam pattern is simple. Exams are held twice a year as per the semester. One can easily ace the exam by referring to the previous year question banks. The college takes you for outings as per the course curriculum. For example, Psychology students are taken to NGOs and Environmental studies students are taken to botanical gardens, etc.

Placement Experience

3.5

The placement cell is pretty active with many companies and NGOs visiting the campus. Apart from this, the student WhatsApp groups constantly post for internship opportunities. I had not registered myself with the placement cell, which is done in the 3rd year as I wish to pursue masters.

College Events

5

There's no exaggeration in claiming that there are events taking place on the campus almost every day! That's what JMC is popularly known for! The annual fest is Montag? and the cultural fest for all the courses and societies are taking place around the year. BA Programme's fest is Melang? and Psychology Hons fest is Catharsis! Look out for these and mark your calendars. As for societies, Women's Study Center's annual fest is Jagriti.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fees for Bachelors is ?12, 000 in even sem and ?15k in oddAdditionallyy, one has to pay for the department fee (around ?500) and examination fee(?750-which includes the fee for practicals). It can be feasible in comparison to private universities but expensive if we compare it to other north campus colleges. This depends on the reference point. One can easily pay the fees online or in cash at the college bank. There hasn't been any case of donation and there's transparency.

Fees and Financial Aid

I did not opt for any college scholarship or loans. On the college website there are provisions for such aids.

Campus Life

JMC is an all girl's College. With girls coming from across the country and world. You get to learn about their cultures not just in your curriculum but in fests like those of the north east society. There are countless workshops/ seminars conducted to instill knowledge and tolerance. Often there are certificate courses provided by societies like WSC/ Peace Society on topics of gender, race, identity, environment, etc. The college has a pro LGBTQ+ ally community with sensitivity and support extended by the professors. Students come from a variety of Socio-economic background and learn to function like a unified body. In my class there's majority from Kerela and Delhi alongside Maharashtrians, Rajasthanis, Nagamese and Pahadis. In terms of religious tolerance, there's plenty of it within the campus and that has never been a subject of discrimination. There's open dialogue about all these aspects and no restrictions in terms of your identity (clothing, language, accent, etc). You get to meet staunch feminists to radical thinkers to extremely liberals people. You may also come across conservatives and orthodox, all coexisting under the same roof.

Hostel Facilities

There's no hostel facility provided by JMC, however students opt for PGs in the south campus. Locations like Moti Bagh, Vasant Vihar, Satya Niketan, Munirika, etc are preferable. Owning to Delhi metro's well connectedness accross the city, stay wouldn't be a problem. The closest metro stations are Lok Kalyan marg metro station (from there you take a shared auto for ?20 to college) or Durgabai Deshmukh metro station to college (shared auto/ walk down to college). Buses and can services are available too. I stayed at an army hostel called AWWA in shankar vihar, catering to daughters of defence personnel.

Alumni/Alumna

The seniors were pretty helpful as long as you make person efforts to reach out. In my experience, on the first day of college where I felt pretty lost, a 3rd year helped me navigate through the curriculum and what all to expect.

Admission

The first step is to register on the main Delhi University website, where one can refer to the cut off lists published and apply to the chosen college. From there for colleges like St Stephen's and JMC, one has to fill individual forms present on the college website. The merit list is made based on your percentage and if you fall in any quota. For instance- Sports quota, Christian Quota, PWD, etc. JMC and Miranda College were my priority as according to the cut off list, I could get admission in these. I specifically wanted an all girls college.

Faculty

4.5

The faculty is talented and young at heart! For each subject, there would be minimum 2 professors at once. The mode of teaching or pedagogy ranging from class lectures, ppts, movies and seminars. The professors are mostly alumnae of DU, Ambedkar College or TISS. The sociology professors have expertise range covering anthropology, reserch methods and sociology. They regularly write for journals and newspapers. (Check for Dr Renny Thomas). The Psychology professors are mixture of PhDs and Masters in the discipline.

Course Curriculum Overview:

My course is MSC operations research, which is a very vast and deep course. It goes deep into understanding business operations and providing the businesses with best quality steps. There were real life projects which have helped me alot in understanding difficult topics. If there could be more projects it would have been more helpful for studies. The exams level is moderate to difficult, have to study hard to perform good in tests/exams.

The course curriculum is a bit too theoretical and less practical. The exams in the college takes places every month which are seasonals and are for internal marking and then we have semester exams in every 6 months which accounts for the external marking.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I really was interested in finance and taxation from the beginning. This course aligned rightly with my interests. The curriculum is based on real world applications. Corporate accounting, financial accounting, company law, human resource management, these are very important considering change in the job market and business world. Not only real world applications but one can also go for further academic pursuit such as a master's degree and research. This makes the curriculum really diverse. Some areas of suggestions would be that in theory subjects there should be practical activities. Just like vestibular training. The time of exams is just right. After the completion of syllabus of a particular subject, we are given 10 days of preparation leave. The exams are moderate and it really tests our ability and knowledge based on our studies.

I think teachers should be friendly with students or gentle .. they are extremely strict that students doesnt feel to interact with them i think they should improve here. We have weakly tests , monthly sessionals ,projects and that thing helps us alot for the main exams
