Entrance Preview

AIEEE, scored well, got admission in reputed college which was located in Chandigarh. Wanted to pursue Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

Course Curriculum Overview

2.5

The course covered various topics from Electrical Machinery to Power System Analysis (Computer Aided) to Electrical Measurement equipments etc. Well thought of though a bit too much to be covered in such a short duration of time.

Internships Opportunities

For my branch, most of the students have interned every year. For the 8th semester, the stipend offered varies from Rs 20000 to nothing .Most of the companies that came for EEE were not core but KPOs. Branches like CSE AND IT gain an advantage there.

Placement Experience

3

Most of the students do end up getting placed. CSE and IT branches get a lot of Core companies while the other branches don't. Hence Most of those students go into consultancy or startups. The TPC was well managed this time so there was an influx of good companies. Packages MUST be improved if companies want students to stick to their companies for longer periods.

College Events

0.5

A lot of events are held in the college, from technical events like aarambh, to the annual efficycle, aavishkaar, etc. While technical events are very good, cultural events lack creativity and are basically an excuse for a few days off from campus. Events held by various committees like Rotaract UIET are well planned and well executed so participation in those was generally enjoyable.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Since the college was not centralised, the fee was high, about 70k per annum. In addition to this were additional costs of upto 2k for each semester examination we give, which was completely unnecessary. Fee was expensive and facilities provided were definitely not upto standard.

Fees and Financial Aid

College itself provided scholarships to students who were worthy. Other than that, students who wrote papers for IEEE were given grants. Lastly, people from lower economic class were given relaxation in fee after they produced the necessary documents to avail these.

Campus Life

1

Gender Ratio is not well balanced as more male students were there. Was a localite so cannot comment on hostel parties.Workshops were good though could have been more intensive and exhaustive than they were.Politics was enjoyable as PU elections are a great way to get to know seniors and learn about all the parties.Economic standard was mostly middle class to upper middle class.

Alumni/Alumna

Alumni has been generally very helpful, from assisting us regarding career options as well as going the extra mile in providing us internships. Most of us attended our second year internship with one of the alumni only, her startup providing us with ample knowledge to understand practicality of various instruments and equipments.

Exam Structure

We had two sets of minor exams, practicals for almost all subjects and then final exams, each semester. Hence during the exam days, it was quite hectic. Especially near the end as the minors, practical exams and finals come all together all of a sudden.

Faculty

2.5

Permanent faculty was experienced and taught well.No guest lecturers were there unfortunately.Temporary teachers were not good. Requirement of more teaching aids and practicals could have made the standard of teacher exponentially more than what was there.

Placement Experience:

Since the first batch of VLSI is yet to be placed I would take example of ECE for reference. Out of 110 students which sat for placements , 91 got placed , median of 13 lakh with avergae of 16 lakh and 61 lakh highest on campus. These are of 24-25 and this year placements are better as even apple visited us after an hiatus of 3 years. In core electronics , Samsung Rnd , TATA electronics , Cadence , Micron etc visited for tech , UKG , PhonePay , Oracle , Accenture etc vist in consulting and finance , Mckinsey , JP Morgan , GoldmanSachs , AmericanExpress visit. After my btech I plan to do a job.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I would rate the course plan around 7 out of 10 in terms of relevance and depth. I chose this course mainly because it includes core tech subj like DSA, DBMS, OS, AI and cloud, which are useful for jobs in tech field. The presence of lab work and proj based learning also influenced my choice. The curriculum gives a fair base in theory and basic prac skills. It helps in campus place prep and also builds base for higher study like MTech or MS. But real world skill still depends a lot on self study, online course and side proj. Some topics feel updated, but a few subj are still too theory heavy and not linked to real case use. Exams are held twice as mid test and once as end term in each sem. There are also quiz, viva and lab eval. The level is moderate. If you attend class and revise notes, it is manageable. For improve, more live proj, hack event, ind visit and case study should be added. Teach method should shift more to code demo and less slide read
